new news: - us and british forces have taken control of oil fields in southern and northern iraq, a few oil wells have been set on fire. - a us marine with the 1st expeditionary unit was killed by small arms fire when taking one of those southern oil fields. - turkey and the united states still fighting over the agreement to allow coalition planes/missles to use turkish airspace, therefore the airspace is still closed to coalition aircraft.
Ahh, day 3...here we go Iraqis denying the capture of Umm Qasr, even though we have captured it. Do these guys lie about everything?
CNN TV: The Pentagon is making the point that there's still no sign of the Republican Guard, just Iraqi conscripts so far. Thus it's possible the real fight is still to come.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Day 3 of The War This just in: Secretary Runsfeld has issued a plea to all Oklahomans to conserve periods, reminding them that a sentence only needs one at the end to be complete.
They might not be lying completely:- BBC: But despite reports of as many as 250 Iraqi soldiers surrendering in the area, correspondents say the Americans are not yet in control of the whole complex. But it does sound like it is going well,
Washington Times (yeah, I know, the Rense.com of the print media) is saying that Uday Hussein was killed in the Thursday early am attack. Uday, you may know, is the really crazy son who runs/ran the media and tortures/tortured Iraqi Olympic athletes for fun. Qusay is the only slightly crazy son who runs some part of the defense department.
NY Times front page says that: -- 30 oil wells on fire -- no idea how this compares to 1991. -- Turkey has delayed opening its airspace.
There were more than 700 set on fire in 1991 according to CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/03/21/sprj.irq.oil.wells/index.html
More on this from the Associated Press. I have been hoping that we wouldn't do this. Why not wait & see if Saddam is really dead before taking on a much higher risk of civilian deaths through what is essentially carpet bombing? Meanwhile, so much for the element of surprise. When your top-secret raid makes the AP, you have to wonder...
I agree, the stories that come out about him from the soccer side of things were just frightening to say the least. I sometimes wonder if it would be more important to take the sons out rather than the old man? I think the sons are even crazier. Andy
IIRC, when Bush made his "48 hours" ultimatum to Saddam, that also applied to his sons as well, so I think the Bush Administration is aware his sons aren't exactly a couple of Rotarians themselves. BTW, where's their mother? Just wondering.
Mike Barnicle of MSNBC said on his radio show this morning that the top military brass remains pretty sure that they got Saddam and possibly Uday and that's why Shock and Awe is on hold. He also said the military is in contact with certain leaders of the Republican Guard and some in Saddam's administration attempting to negotiate their surrender. Until the situation changes, he said he's been told that we'll just continue to drop an occasional bomb or two on selected targets in Baghdad, specifically the neighborhoods where Saddam's crew lives. Apparently we have the ability to target individual houses through these satellite guided missles.
ABC News is now reporting that eyewitnesses saw Saddam getting carried out of the bombing area Thursday morning on a stretcher and wearing an oxygen mask. (How do they know it was him if he was wearing an oxygen mask?)
ArcLight!!! how dumb the poster must be to think and write the above statement. Remember, this war has four components; Air, Black, Ground, and Psych. But, then again, you did not know that now did you PAWB!!!
The B52s are going to drop their bombs soon... http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1084542,00.html
