New day, and yet more buggering around with Basra. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2899829.stm And as Mr Cam posted at the end of 'Day 11', yes they went into Basra and wrecked a few statues and murals of Saddam - for morale purposes.
Group Captain Al Lockwood has just been on SKY saying that they have apparently got an Iraqi General prisoner. Thought it's unclear which arm of the Iraqi forces he's from. Oh yes, as with most - if not all days, a couple of B-52s have just taken off from RAF Fairford.
And though it's actually yesterday's news, I felt this deserved a better airing than me messing up my post (which is what I did). Friendly fire incident: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2897701.stm
US Marines turn fire on civilians at the bridge of death Mark Franchetti, Nasiriya The light was a strange yellowy grey and the wind was coming up, the beginnings of a sandstorm in which the silence felt almost eerie after a night of shooting so intense it hurt the eardrums http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-628258,00.html I heard some US or uk general saying the use of cell phones by soldiers will be highly reduced because it hurts the moral of the troops. Anyone has a link?
No. But on a related note: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2894987.stm The US, take-over Iraq? Surely not.

You using the 'Bigsoccer' username and passwords for that? Because I can't be bothered to register. Infact, that's something. Almost everytime someone posts something from the NY/London times or any other newspaper etc of note, the bigsoccer/bigsoccer thing doesn't work. I'm mystified.
Very interesting: http://volokh.blogspot.com/2003_03_23_volokh_archive.html#200067728 I don't blame them for feeling this way, considering that we bailed on them twice during the 90s. I'm not sure there's any short-term (during the war) solution to get them to believe we won't be throwing them to the Baath party wolves.
No, I heard the news in italian and i looked for an english version. I'm not registered as you, and those registration processes are annoying...
Well thanks. I'd have thought someone might have done it already but no... Anyway, update on the UK forces near Basra:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2899829.stm And another UK journalist dies in Iraq:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2900379.stm Not quite how you'd expect. And an 'apology' for the 'friendly fire' deaths.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2900349.stm Well, I guess you could call it a kind of apology. You could. Sort of.
Link doesn't work at all now. Can't find anything, anywhere about this online. (I'd have thought the BBC might have had something) And I forgot to buy a Sunday newspaper.

Update on that one: Apparently two Royal Marines seriously injured, one more was taken to a field hospital where he unfortunately died. Cam, your PM box is full.
Also just seen that we're apparently employing the locals of Umm Qasr. They've been out of work since it all started.
why so many flights from fairford? i would think diego garcia would be closer, no? just found that odd.
The first is really interesting, finally someone talking about real ppl in basra. Kylie Morris :: 1948BST The people who I've spoken to who have left Basra have talked about people feeling very confused, saying they don't know what they want. They mightn't like Saddam Hussein very much, but neither do they really like the arrival of British and American forces, and they're very concerned about them overstaying their welcome. Interestingly though, I did have a look today at some of the pamphlets which are being handed out by British forces. Apparently, one of them being distributed in Basra says "be patient, together we will win, and this time we wont abandon you". Given the background i would suggest to delete the last phrase of the pamphlet.
Number 1: The stealth planes are using Diego Garcia currently. It's only a tiny island, there's no room, so the B-52s are using Fairford. And besides... Number 2: Diego Garcia is further from Iraq than Britain is.
