I know we have several posters on these boards who have some connections to the UNC program and I'm wondering if any of you know just what the hell is going on with David Testo? Not only was this guy not drafted, his name hasn't surfaced in any MLS preseason training camps (some undrafted players have been) nor has he been linked, that I'm aware of, to any European trials. I find this to be very odd given Testo's talent. This is a guy who has been a regular in the U23 pool and who, when he's on, can be a very dangerous player. He's a good passer, holds the ball well and has a cracker of shot, capable of playing either withdrawn forward or attacking mid. He is definitely inconsitent but he's still more talented than a lot of the players that did get drafted. I know he got into a scrape after a party in the fall and that may have soured some teams on him, but I can't believe it soured them enough to not even draft him in the 6th round or bring him to camp as a non-roster invitee. Is there some other problem with Testo that we don't know about that is keeping him from starting a pro career? Because otherwise, his situation makes little sense. And BTW, what is Trevor Perea doing now that his trial in Scandanavia came up empty?
I haven't seen Testo play a lot but he was junk against Penn State in the NCAA's this past year. The only thing he did of note was injure Brent Jacquette on a dirty foul. He seemed slow, and Penn State is not exactly a team with wheels. He certainly did not show me that he was MLS caliber but I'm sure there's many people who have seen him a lot more and might disagree.
I think some of his peers would call him a tool. People from my generation would use the term, head case. That's all coming second hand.
Could be some perceptions about his committment, ala Jason Cole at Colorado: the first draftee to be waived.
