David Beckham will be on the tonight show with jay leno tonight 6/2/03 hes doing pr for themanu tour and hes supposedly set to be on the mtv movie awards on thursday as well.......
Your kidding? I doubt most Americans would know who Beckham is. Why would the show invite him on air? And MTV? Why? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him on the air, but do you have proof?
This is absolute bollocks. According to the Tonight Show's list of guests (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/guests/), David Beckham is nowhere to be found for this coming week. Nice try.
it was in the sunday NYPOST in the tv section middle of the paper......... besides beckham is in the united states
Changes are often made and they don't show up right away. The guest he (non-musical) has are the most "bumpable" in the history of the show.
Why so incredulous? There is a popular movie out with his name in the title. His wife is Posh Spice. Girls think he's good looking. Certain types of guys think he's REALLY good looking. You have to have someone on between the Sly's and Catherine Zeta's. If you want conspiracy, I think there's a plot to introduce Americans to soccer by getting them on the Man U. bandwagon a la Asia. Same the other way with the (hated, I saw them play today in 17 innings) Yankees. I have no proof for this except the existing marketing agreement between the 2 clubs.
My guess is that he has a pretty good publicist and he has a tour to pimp. Plus, his namesake film is doing pretty decent so there's somewhat of a buzz around him. And indeed, both Macy and "Good Day Live" crew are quite bumpable, since they're based in Hollywood, so I wouldn't be surprised either way.
If they got bumped for Beckham there would be the added bonus that they would talk (complain) about it constantly on their show the next day providing even more publicity. If you've ever seen them you know what I mean.
Remind me again why Beckham has to dress like such a fruit... That's probably not the best way to increase his popularity here.
Like most people I've gotten over my juvenile hatred I used to have for him, and recognise him for his great job in stepping up his responsibility and overall professionalism. But he's really got to stop whoring himself out and making it so apparent how much of a movie star he wants to be. I'm sure football is still #1 with him, but it's pretty obvious that the fame football gives him alone is not enough to satisfy the amount the he wants.
How popular is he with the American public now? If people like Samuel Jackson are calling him the best footballer in the world (We all know he's not but that doesn't really matter) then it seems to me like he must be pretty well known in the States surley?
Actor SAMUEL L JACKSON said: “He’s the best footballer in the world and she’s really beautiful.” *********** I guess that means we can scratch Samuel off the list of celebrity soccer stars. The best footballer in the world?????
On a serious note, Beckham gets a lot of stick for being "glam" and whatnot. And if you want that, the criticism is part and parcel of that kind of life. I have no problem with anyone who dislikes his over-exposure and media profile, I dislike plenty of people who have no talent, skills, or brains and get so much darn publicity as well. However; David does get major points, at least from me, for how he has handled France '98 and the aftermath. It shows a great deal of class and mental fortitude to not only survive, but to be where he is today. I think it's one of the best success stories around personally.
Honestly, he's not, although his publicist is doing a pretty good job on seeing that it changes. I couldn't care less. All that it means is that Beck's is trying very, very, very hard to fit into a ridiculously sad crowd that most people with a good head on their shoulders laugh at anyway. The only people that ooh and aah over the red carpets are gossip hounds, white trash that need to brighten up their trailer park existences and magazine editors hoping to sell issues to the two previously mentioned pathetic crowds.
I'm not a fan of those kind of people either, funnily enough its those kind of people rather then football fans for the most part who have him so over rated as a footballer, see Samuel L Jackons comments for a case in point there, but the more he's seen at these award ceremonies and the like the more known he'll be to the average John Q Public in America, so even though he looks like a ponce in those pictures, for soccer in America it's gotta be doing more good then harm, right?
Not really, I don't think. No offense. I don't believe we'll see MLS stands or national team matches any fuller due to him appearing at the self-important MTV Movie Awards.
It's like you or me getting to a game early to watch Becks (or any great pro) knock it around before kickoff. These people definitely place their priorities in a different spot, but what the hell, most are paid to show up and kiss the celebs' asses. I think this guy is terrific - maybe not the best player in the world, but a fantasticly exciting one, both on and off the pitch. I hope he's on Leno; why not watch? By the way Motterman, the "Bling bling bling" JPEG was funny as hell.
Actually, I'd rather see him on The Daily Show with John Stewart, as would anyone else who saw Victoria's appearance on the show awhile back. Heh heh.
I thought I read somewhere that Samuel L. Jackson was a Manchester United fan. But I probably read that on bigsoccer.com so what the truth was in that I just can't say.
