Well, no, not actually die, as such - but I wish he'd SHUT THE [CENSORED] UP about wanting to be the next MetroStars coach! The way he's blabbing on and on about how he hasn't been contacted yet but if he were he'd sure consider it - could he BE any more obvious? "Hire me! Hire me! Hello! Former coach here! Will work for whatever grease I can suck out of the deep fat fryers at Giants Stadium!"

Yuck. We do NOT need this rodent, and I hope his pathetic lobbying campaign nauseates Nick as much as it has me.

So are you more interested in hiring someone who DOESN'T want the job?

Fallacious reasoning. Those are not the only alternatives. I want to hire someone who is COMPETENT for the job.

And you're suggesting that Dave Dir is not competent?

Yeah, its totally unreasonable for dir to respond that he wants the job when a reporter asks him. Dave Sarachan said the same thing, should we ban him from our list too?

The fact is that Dir is a quality American coach, his teams always made the playoffs, were always tough and tactically sound. I never remember them getting thoroughly embarassed or spanked, even when Clint scored five goals in one game, Dallas lost by just one. He's tenacious and adept, should we merely overlook him because he was canned by Dallas? His record speaks for himself, he never got a gift from the league, and his teams were good.

Seriously. This is by far the worst job MLS has to offer.

Dir was quoted in yesterday's Dallas News:

"I know that my name has been dropped by them and a few other people," Dir said. "But as far as I've heard, they [the MetroStars] won't contact anybody until after the MLS Cup."

You get the feeling that this guy's so desperate to coach, he'd take Jeff Bradley's Under-6 team gig if it was available.

I think that's pretty clear from my reaction to his desperate attempts to place himself on the short list. But just in case you still don't get it, I'm not suggesting he's not competent, I'm flat out stating it: I don't think Dave Dir is competent. I do not want him to be the next coach of the MetroStars.

    Clear?

dir is a reasonable option, but obviously the desperation in the man has got to be a bad sign. if no1 hires him for work, he must not be that good anymore, but what can i say? it seems to me that his desperation shows that bad sign as i was saying before. anyways i was wondering when i first heard about sampson to costa rica, and thought why the hell would they go to him instead of guimares again? where is he going? could it be possible that alexandre guimares can come to the metrostars? seems he would be excellent

Right, its desperation to say to a reporter that you're interested in the position and to talk well about it. I guess "No comment" would have been more appropriate? If he said that, you would have been on here bitching that we don't want such an introvert as a coach.

If Dave Dir was our coach, we'd be in the playoffs and be a tough team, then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. That would give you more then enough free time to start yet another thread about Saint John's stadium and why Metro can't do the same thing, Lord knows, its been almost two days since the last one was started.

If the powers that be (AEG) decide that Dir is still a satisfactory coach, he will probably get the job. One of the considerations is that MLS is still paying him his full salary whether he coaches or not. Combine that with having to pay off OZ, can MLS afford paying off TWO former coaches?

Any outsider coach will cost them a bundle and might not last too long. That would require a lengthy payout for not working. At least Dir knows the league and the teams he will be competing against. And he should be able to last until his contract expires whenever that is.

You cannot always judge a coach by previous situations. All coaching relationships eventually run their course and break down. Coaches are usually at their best when they first take over.

Although Dir is not my choice, I can see his selection as reasonable.

I'm suprised the BigSoccer zealots didn't hop on this before. Dir is only payed by the league because Dallas is a league run-team. Any Hunt or AEG or Kraft owned team is payed for by the owner, not the league. In theory then, Metro could pay 2 million for Alex Ferguson to come over. So Zambrano's bill is being footed by AEG, not MLS.
