Yikes. If there's any small silver lining it's that his own brother has gone through the same (and worse). Gonna go for a jog now and thank my lucky achilles
The ACL tear was on his left, the first Achilles tendon tear was right leg, second wasn't disclosed SFIK. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mls/timbers-forward-bright-dike-out-6-to-9-months https://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/2014/02/portland_timbers_react_with_sa.html
You should definitely doubt me. Trust no one. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mls/timbers-forward-bright-dike-out-6-to-9-months "has had surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles' tendon" https://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/2014/02/former_portland_timbers_forwar_1.html "reportedly suffers second torn Achilles" https://www.theglobeandmail.com/spo...-bouncing-back-from-injuries/article23809490/ "tore his other Achilles" Bright Dike 2011 Right Achilles 2014 Left Achilles Darryl Dike 2023 Right Achilles 2024 Left Achilles Rotten luck or a genetic predisposition? Probably a bit of both.
I am a guy with a math degree and I can tell you that if it was bad luck, that is some really really very very bad luck. If it isn't genetics there is a non zero chance of that "bad luck" happening to siblings, but that number is getting very close. I so hope this guy can find what he is looking for out of life. Seems like a great person, and I really hope he does well.
When Bright's second Achilles tear happened, I remember they were very tight-lipped about it. Yes, super-rare. There's nothing in the sports lit about it, AFAIK.
"When do you reckon you'll be back from injury?" pic.twitter.com/smYEdNvAaT— WBA Report (@WBAReport) August 26, 2024 Update from Dike. Says he's 4-6 weeks out from returning to training
This is music to my ears! I am scared nervous AF though. Please, take your time. Don’t rush. I want Dike back soooooo bad but not as the expense of another injury. Curious though….. I wonder if he’s had to revamp / change his running style. His power, quick acceleration, and turning just isn’t friendly to his Achilles.
I quite enjoy following our players in the English Championship. Especially the attacking players. The promotion races are quite entertaining. Will be fun to have Daryl and WBA to through into the mix with Boro, Leeds, NCFC, Coventry City FC etc etc
Okay, I’ll give him 5 more weeks … but not 6. I mean, come on, enough already, let’s get this show on the road! Patience has its limits!
Normally I would agree but it's been fun to see Haji and Sargent scoring goals in bunches the past year +. Hopefully Aaronson keeps up with them
Yeah, I know it's a business, so there's always a rush to rehab and return, but these are special circumstances, where a re-injury would quite possibly be career-ending. I would ask Dike to tell me when he felt 100% ready, then have him walk around the track for another month, to get used to his new legs. Stretching, ice-baths, etc - whatever the doctor(s) ordered. Then increase the demands/tempo gradually as he gets back up to speed. I would stretch out the timeline - nothing explosive, no changes of directions, no contact, no scrimmaging - for months. Yes, he'll have to return to full duty at some point, but since (I assume) he's anxious to get right back in there, someone has to take the long view and slow him down.
Hopefully he's slimmed down as well... him and his brother are built like linebackers and that body type does not suit well for soccer. You can tell he was also at his most explosive when he was with Orlando... not the greatest comparison but think Shaquille O'neill with the Orlando Magic versus the Lakers version.
His comments to me sound like he's currently training on his own with no ball. He says he's running and trying to get his body back in shape--pre-season conditioning basically. So the achilles is quite healed at this stage. His "return to training" seems to mean "return to (light-duty) team training with the ball". Followed, presumably, by several more weeks of team training before anyone is going to think about putting him on the field.
🤩 Daryl Dike is all smiles in training, back from his long-term injury. The 24-year-old is scheduled to return in late October! #USMNT pic.twitter.com/tqEsGKtcYD— WBA Report (@WBAReport) September 19, 2024 Guess who's back? Dike back in training!
