Smart move for West Ham to shore up their goalkeeping. Their form falling off directly coincided with Fabianski's injury. Congrats to Darren!
Sounds like Fabianski had another injury today, subbed off, and Darren may have picked up a knock itself. (And the possible Middleborough replacement is at Klinsmann's club in Switzerland, but JK is hurt, too): Fabianski off injured again. Martin obviously looks good at £4.1m for DGW save points but West Ham are close to buying Darren Randolph, medical issues permitting, so he may well be between the posts come Gameweek 24.— FFScout Neale (@SkontoRigga) January 10, 2020
Wouldn't be a bad move for Ethan, even as a loan, but until Brugge get a replacement for him he's going nowhere
Precarious? Nope. He's under contract with a financially stable side that will let him go in the summer. In the meantime, he's been well-scouted, been making some influential friends, including a little-known German guy who goes by the name of Neuer , and generally keeping himself out of the headlines. He'll get his move in June. It's a frustrating situation, but it ain't precarious.
What's his best options come summer if he's only played a few matches within a year? That's my worry. Maybe Berhalter can throw him a cap or two in March to give him some PT.
Meanwhile, in Darren Randolph news, he passed his medical with West Ham and the deal is now going through. With the #1 GK injured (again), the #2 in the doghouse and the #3, well, looking every inch like a #3, he may be getting a few starts to start with.
Heard a discussion on Sirus FC this morning that this was basically a free transfer that Middlesburg still owed West Ham money and they would write off the debt.
Randolph is an above-average backup for a team fighting relegation. I mean that as a compliment, regardless of how it might sound.
Pretty well, which is why they decided to sign him again. Last time around, he made himself the starter, ousting Adrian who's now Liverpool's back-up, but left because he wanted first-choice status and the geniuses running West Ham decided that Joe Hart would be an upgrade on both of them . Fabianski has problems getting fit, and even more problems staying fit this season. The #2 is an accident waiting to happen and the #3 is nowhere near good enough. Darren is a hugely experienced GK, including at international level. They're signing a guy who is capable of taking over from Fabianski until June if need be.
Got the start and a clean sheet on this New Year's Day 2021. 3 decades of Darren Randolph. Let's get a thread title update for his West Ham move.
Welcomes his 1st child with his partner, who is identified as American, but isn't: https://www.verifiedngnews.com/amer...h-darren-randolph-west-ham-united-goalkeeper/
He moved to Bournemouth AFC in January. 2023. He has had a handful of appearances on the bench so far, but no games. Looks like he is coming back from injury: "Darren Randolph is already training with the group, which is good news. Junior [Traorè] is still with the illness and Alex [Scott] and Max [Aarons] are doing some things outside with the group, but I think the squad will be pretty similar to the past weeks."
Like @BostonRed said, he hasn't played since 2020 and he hasn't been called up since 2021. In the meantime, he hasn't played a competitive game (in any competition) since May 2021 and we've seen the emergence of Gavin Bazunu (Southampton), Caoimhin Kelleher (Liverpool's #2) and Mark Travers (Bournemouth & now Stoke). Bazunu and Travers are both first-choice, and Kelleher gets Cup games. They're all under 25, while he's already 36 and will turn 37 in the summer. It's time to move on
