Re: Sicknote to DCU? I was wondering the same thing. He is a decent midfielder but he has had some serious injuries which cause him to miss matches, and a 32 year old with injuries is something this team doesn't need IMHO
Re: Sicknote to DCU? Because Convey and Quaranta would have a new injured friend when they were out injured?
Anderton eyes move to MLS [DC] :: Connolly, 5/21 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=301320&cc=5901
Re: Anderton eyes move to MLS [DC] :: Connolly, 5/21 See the thread right below this one... Edit: Damn ninja mod merging
Re: Anderton eyes move to MLS [DC] :: Connolly, 5/21 that wasn't exactly the most descriptive thread title...
Re: Anderton eyes move to MLS [DC] :: Connolly, 5/21 He was seen at Summers once for an England game a few years back.
Re: Sicknote to DCU? I don't know. It's definitely an interesting idea. He's got size and can take excellent free kicks and corners, two things we're definitely missing in the midfield. There's the injury thing, but I don't see him being any less productive than Q2 and Q1 combined.
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) The two bugaboos with him are cap space and injury. He's a really good player and those who don't think so, Gunners excepted, are smoking crack. I can't see this happening but I certainly wouldn't be upset to have him in the squad. I know he can shoot (acurately) from outside. I lay odds at 15/2 against.
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) So if he comes here, then Convey goes there - would that be basically trading players with an EPL club. That almost sounds prestigeous With these guys that get released, it's almost always "Fine, I'll take my ball and go to the States", but then someone offers them a chance to help pull up a struggling club or some nonsense and they stay in cold damp England, or wherever. That being said, I have no idea who this guy is.
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) From my post on ussocceruk.com, "... Anderton is the more interesting story. Especially since the article says he has talked with an MLS club and then he mentions DC and the Mutts. From what it sounds like he was saying NY because of the life there and DC more because of the soccer. I know DCU could really use some good service on corners and free-kicks (42 games and counting without a goal off a corner) so I actually wouldn't mind seeing this happen especially if Convey leaves for Europe."
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) I'm not the type to herald old European players coming to MLS in the twilight of their careers. But if Anderton can truly help DC...then why the hell not? As long as he's affordable. However, how many old EPL players are going to be linked w/ MLS this season? Yorke, Cole, Anderton, who else Sherringham, Desailly?
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) Because some around here would prefer to waste time on the Tyson Nunez pipe-dream is why not. Cap space would have to be created but right now Q1 and Q2 have done nothing more than take up space. I say if only one player would be lost from the current United roster to make the numbers work then what the heck why not bring him in. Can anyone say he would be less productive than Ivanov was last year??
Re: Sicknote to DCU? (Anderton to DC?) Difference being, this one actually came out and said he wanted to be here. Question is which team will step up and make some offers, and when? I mean he could be distributing (which i think is his best assett) for us by July he said. What an injection he would be at that time!)
Is Anderton an option? http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=301320&cc=5901 I'm not sure where we stand on international spots and that sort of thing, but is this guy an option for someone who we could bring in?
Re: Anderton to DC? Is it just me or does anyone else feel like this thread is the first sign of us sucking this season? --DC looks to over the hill English "hope" to save season... Its like a bad rerun. I enjoyed it the first time but after 35 minutes of worthless tape on Gazza "signing" with DC United I think I will pass this time. As for "pipe" dreams, assuming he is in decent form I'd take Tyson Nunez over Anderton any day. We need a forward not another Stewart.
