I have been genuinely unimpressed with his play-but I have seen him play maybe 10 times. Maybe they were 10 bad days.He always looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

....no; you've seen his total game. I can NOT figure out what the reason is for his call up to the USMNT, does he have compromising pics of Bruce?

Back in 2000 some Leeds United assistant coach said Califf was our best player at the Olympic Games and could play in the Premiership.

Apparently Bruce Arena believed the guy.

I'm wondering if Califf will turn out like Sanneh (raises his game to another level in the big matches) or like Kirovski (waste of space that keeps getting called up because he had potential).

Correction, it was Steve Crowley of Arsenal who endorsed Califf.

I'm not saying I agree with Mr. Crowley or Mr. Arena - in fact I think he's the weakest link in the Galaxy back line - but Arena has a tendency to stick with players he thinks have "potential".

maybe it's a good sign for MLS

If Danny was the weak link in LA's back line, but still plays first division French ball and is talking with a first division German team, maybe that speaks highly of MLS, or at least of the Galaxy.
