    Daniv Released
The Fire has elected not to pick up the 2003 option of midfielder and senior international Sergi Daniv. In his two seasons with Chicago, Daniv appeared in 22 games (14 starts) and scored three goals and three assists for nine points. He spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons with the Dallas Burn, making his MLS debut on July 2, 1999, at Chicago. The Ukranian scored his first professional goal as a member of the Fire on July 4, 2001, at Kansas City, in a 7-0 Chicago route. Daniv was acquired via trade with Dallas on January 4, 2001, for Lubos Kubik. He was originally signed by the Burn as a Nike Project-40 player on March 24, 1999.

Poor Daniv, the guy went through 2 years of hating the goons only to have to play with them.

There was a lot of hype around that trade, and neither player ended up delivering much.

Daniv had his moments, but consistency wasn't his forte.

Is he classified as a Senior International?

If so, his best chance at an MLS career is getting his green card. He could be the Ukranian version of David Vaudreil. Useful but expendable.

At least we're holding out hope that Gbandi turns into something. If not, this one was a complete wash.

Where does Daniv go from here, the A-league? Back home?

I don't know Daniv's immigrant status, but I don't think he's been a resident of...Lvov, Ukraine, I think...for years. He went to Wake Forest, add on a few years for soccer...He'll probably end up at the new A-League franchise in Virginia Beach or Rochester like all ex-Burn players (Glenn, Stebbins, Wilson, Trotman, Vallow-*, Korol, I'm sure they is at least one or two more)

I beleive that if Daniv got his green card, he would be back in the MLS right away.

I believe the Fire was working on getting him his green card so that isn't the issue. Daniv has been living in Chicago even in the offseason. He wasn't ever given a chance by Bradley which I think is a shame. Hes a solid young player that has had unfortunate injuries.

    My dear Roman,
what would give you that idea? What did he ever do really for the Burn or the Fire? Isn't this just another kid who hasn't met his potential, and seemingly never will?
Boy, I am asking alot of questions, I guess you could call me Cicero.

    Grace and Peace,

Call you Cicero? That would be imploite, Marcus Tullius.

For the Burn and the Fire, Serge was an effective right wing. Look at the difficulties the Burn have had since they traded him. Last year, the Burn had to play Vaca there, a position he was ill suited for. Often, Vaca would drift inot the middle, leaving nobody on the right, unless Ryan made a run. Once ROB proved himself, the Burn had a right wing again, for the first time in two years. If Rob is huyrt, back to Vaca. The Burn would be better served with Surge.

An effective, natural right wing is nothing to turn your back on. Unless league rules make him too expensive.

right-mid is not ROB's true position. I also dont think he has proven anything just yet. Yes he has done some great things, but he has not played enough. i also expect vaca to share the starts at RM.

I never said that rigth wing was ROB's natural position, only that he plays it with the Burn, well enough to put Vaca on the bench. Barring injury or exhastion, I don't see Vaca out there much at all.

So what is ROB's natural position then? He looks pretty damn good out there to me.

Daniv's best hope would be to get his green card and convert to a right back. He joins a long list of IU players that so far haven't cut it at the MLS level. Kind of makes you wonder if IU is more about the system instead of the quality of player they're getting.

Like I said, his green card is NOT an issue. I just think Bradley had a bias against Eastern European players. Maybve he doesn't like their style, who knows. He got rid of Lubos Kubik for him, only to save salary space and never gave Sergi a chance. Then he never gave Korol a chance. If it wouldn't have been such a "scandal", maybe he would have gotten rid of Nowak too. ???

But when you have limited SI spots, you need someone who will perform well and consistently. Surge was not that.

Remember as well that Kubik and Nowak were the most important part of that team for years. Surge was mainly unlucky. He was frequently injured, a new coach comes in, and sends the Train on his way.

I think Serge is done in the US. I think he will go home and try to catch on in a colder climate.

How can anyone say Bradley is biased against Eastern Europeans? He is the one that basically introduced them to MLS - Kubik, Nowak, and a host of Polish forwards. Please.

Polish national team captain, Peter Nowak, is allocated by Major League Soccer and joins the Fire as the team's first international star.

Bradley frickin' found him! It was Bradely that asked the league to sign him. Same with Kubik, Pobrozny, Koscesci, etc ...

It's not exactly like Nowak was some hidden talent. The guy played for several years in the Bundesliga and had 24 caps with Poland.

And in fact, according to this link, while Bradley was instrumental in MLS signing Nowak, it was Shep Messing who's given credit for bringing him to the Fire's attention.

that's fine. But that doesn't mean that Bradley is biased against Eastern Europeans. He brought a ton in to Chicago, basically the first in the league to start doing that.
