The other day I got an e-mail that Danijel guy is an American. http://www.soccerway.com/players/danijel-brkovi/165449/ He plays for Velez Mostar in Bosnia and occasionally gets in games with the first team. Last year he signed a 2 year contract with Velez http://www.vitanovalis.nl/uk/nieuws.php Brkovic is from Binghamton, NY and went to Johnson City High Schoo and graduated in 2009l. He played on this club team http://clubsoccer.us/sicteam.aspx?id=NYM91010
And there is indeed an American playing in the Bosnian Premier League. Read all about him here: BRKOVIC AIMING HIGH AT FK VELEZ
Just a couple things, Johnson City is a neighboring city to Binghamton, but is not part of Binghamton. The club he played for BC United Fusion. That's the top team in the area. They're considered to be the best of the best within 50 miles. Thye take the top kids from various local clubs and compete in what's known as the Premier League, they travel all over Upstate NY as well as other areas in the Northeast.
Brkovic,19, looks to be a regular this year for Velez Mostar He scored in the team's first friendly against FK Olimpic Sarajevo and the game ended 1-1
Holy crap The Velez team was attacked today by crazy fans after they scored a goal. I can report that Danijal is okay This is absolutley nuts Watch this [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GzrX6f0of4"]Zrinjski hooligans attack Velez team for scoring a goal. - YouTube[/ame]
Zrinjski and Velez are both from Mostar. Zrinjski is a club with ethnic Croat origins as is obvious from its crest: Velez is mainly a Bosniak club. Glad the players seem to be safe. Never good to see this sort of thing in the former Yugoslavia. This 1990 match was a bad omen: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXr1Z-MiApo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXr1Z-MiApo[/ame]
Velez were awarded a 3-0 win after the riot. The goal in the clip was in 2nd half injury time and that's when all hell broke loose. Velez were not allowed to leave the lockroom for several hours after the game until it determined to be safe. Brkovic was not in matchday 18 but he was standing at the entrance to the locker room where everyone ran to. What a mess
Congrats to Dani He scores his first ever professional goal for Velez Mostar. Watch here [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7yPDzUkAWE"]velez-zrinjski KUP BiH 1/8 FINAL 19.10.2011. 1:0 - YouTube[/ame]
Brkovic started the last Bosnian Premier league game for Velez (4-1 loss to Željezničar) He should start this weekend against Zvijezda. Crazy season for Brkovic so far: survived a riot, first professional goal, working way into starting lineup. Interesting
I think the craziest part of that riot is the opposing player taking a run and tries to clothes-line the guy.
Brkovic starts and plays 68 minutes for Velez in 3-0 loss to Borac Banja Luka. Velez remain in 8th place
In a friendly during the international window, Brkovic scored a hat-trick against FK Leotar in a 5-2 win http://www.fkvelez.ba/index.php?opt...-danijela-brkovia&catid=35:vijesti&Itemid=143
