300 million is a funny figure because isn't that roughly what the Friedkin's paid to buy the club? haha
lol at DEI. Had to look that one up. Well shes done herself no favours and after sacking a club legend, she will get hounded until she leaves the club, even if its years from now.
A new broom sweeps clean, nothing more nothing less. I also thought he would be our Arteta, more time, trust the process and etc. but...but. Now, either Klopp or we are cooked eternally.
Which - on a side note - makes him the fourth highest paid Serie A coach this season. The three year contract and such a salary was just as crazy as the sacking after four games. Juric is a cool guy and certainly earned his chance to coach a bigger club. I'm just not sure if I want it to be us.
At least Dan Friedkin doesn't have to play Jose Mourinho as his contract with Roma ended on June 30, 2024
Was she jealous of his hot mum and she wanted to be number 1 milf in town? I dont know but lets run with that.
Well todays events were certainly unexpected. I'm sorry and a bit bemused that it ended like this for DDR, but we move on. Personally I don't give a fcuk who the manager is as long as Roma are winning. Good luck to Juric. Whoever comes in always has my backing (until they dont deserve it any more).
It was kind of a no-brainer to move on from Patricio (except by Mou) but nonetheless good by Svilar. https://www.instagram.com/p/DAEk2QuuBS9/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
Grazie, Stephan
The club just comes off to me as in chaos behind the scenes, clearly the upper management have no clear vision for the future for Roma. First we hire Mourinho, who is given a 3 year deal and speaks of a long term project, specifically mentioning that this job was different for him because the goal wasn't to win right away, but by the end of the 3 years to bring the club closer to the top of the table, instill a 'winning mentality' and hopefully bring home a trophy along the way (european, the coppa, whatever). He does that in the first year but doesn't make CL. Second year he almost brings us another trophy (winning it would also bring us CL football) but sadly for reasons I won't mention we dont win and are condemned to another year in the Europa. It's clear to me now that Mourinho wanted to leave at the end of that season but said he stayed for the players (remember that speech in the huddle on the pitch after the final) . He complained at the end of season 1 and all through the second year about not having any support from the club in a PR sense, having to do all the communication with the media himself and that he was exhausted of it. Nothing really changes from that standpoint. We go into season 3 with a late mercato, failing to shift a lot of the surplus players, but it's complicated by the injury of Tammy. The results don't go well, the team is playing poorly, he complains about not having enough quality--that Sassuolo and Fiorentina have more talented players, Salernitana has potential to qualify for Europe etc. For me at that point he was tired of being the only one communicating for the club so resorted to this constant down playing of the team and the CL ambitions, to relieve pressure on the players and himself. The upper management then decides to sack Mourinho all of a sudden; he turns up to training one morning along with the players but is called aside into a meeting where he is relieved of his duties. All of this is unexpected for Mourinho. Days before the papers are saying the club has confidence in him. Up until now the club has backed him unwaveringly. There's an uproar, so they hire De Rossi which quietens things down; he is a legendary player, the fans get behind him, the results are great to start, he brings us through two rounds of the EL knockout stage, we look on course for the final, then the schedule takes it's toll on the team, they seem to run out of gas and we miss CL football again after only winning 1 of our last 6 games of the season. Despite the poor finish to the season they back De Rossi in the summer, hand him a 3 year deal and a good contract, involve him in the rebuilding of the team. They spend a lot in the market. He's instrumental in attracting some of the players. They players fit the 433 formation he wants to play. They speak of a long term project with a young manager and young players, with this seaon being one of transition (to explain an incomplete market). The market is late (again), the Danso deal falls through, the Dybala saga clouds the first two games, they decide to bring in two defenders on a free who only arrive in time for the first international break. All of this indicates the team will need time to settle. Draw Cagliari in the first game--ok, it can happen. Dybala situation in the background. Lose to Empoli at home--not so good, but it's still early. Draw away at Juve--good result and performance but a bit lacking offensively. Go to the international break for 2 weeks, come back to formation change and a late 1-1 draw at home with Genoa... It was terrible, but we looked a lot better in the first half and fluffed a lot of chances. You could at least see potential for something there. Then they suddenly decide to sack De Rossi; he turns up to training one morning along with the players but is called aside into a meeting where he is relieved of his duties. The day before the papers are saying the club has confidence in him. Next morning he's saying bye to the players and fans outside the training center. What is the plan now? So no long term project? Juric on a one year deal? Why the sudden change in direction? It's incomprehensible really in a sporting sense to sack him after 4 games, maybe I could understand if we had lost every game but 3 draws and a loss? Who is even in charge, is the same person who decided to back De Rossi the one who decided to sack him? Was Ghisolfi involved in these decisions? He was hired to work with De Rossi so where does he stand now? Why was De Rossi not involved in the decision to exclude Zalewski? Lots of questions...
They’ve gone from Fonseca to Mourinho to De Rossi to now Juric. All very different types of managers that need very different types of players. They spent 30 million on Soule and then a month later hire a manager who doesn’t play with wingers. It’s clear there is no plan or direction behind the scenes. It’s a vanity project for a billionaire who pretends he’s Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
De Rossi said a couple of days ago that if Roma don’t make the CL, it’s not necessarily a failure. Which is another thing that probably rubbed Roma management the wrong way. Juric now is going to be expected to take this team and go on a tear and get Roma into the top 4. Like someone on this thread already mentioned, it might end up being a season like Napoli had last year. It’s very clear that ownerships today don’t like employing club legends because if they clash, the legends can sway public opinion against them. They don’t want to be challenged. There are exceptions with guys like Ibra who are complete company men.
Did they ever like them for that reason? They are happy to use them when it suits such as the Jose damage control. All this has revealed the shambles in the office. I thought Dan had come to Rome and sorted that out. For a time it looked like he did, watching everything first hand and slowly building his team. Has he employed a rotten apple? He was said to be taking a backwards step and give lucky sperm his chance. Possibly another factor given a his age. There needs to be a blend between business minds and football people in the back office and Roma dont have that. Totti mentioned it a few days ago. If he was there with a strong opinion to fight from the pov you cant expect results in 4 games and a late window, would DDR have been sacked. They wont want a football mind in their by the sounds of it. If there was a serious project surely its the case you have this. Director of Sport and a manager joined at the hip and one football mind in the office role to blend the 2 sides together. Another strong voice for the club in the media. I dont think it needs to be complicated, it just needs to be clear and Roma continue to struggle here. These people understand money, they dont understand football. What we see now is whoever is the manager going ahead, the stars have to align for them to get results fast. Juric is a great manager when he is given time. His Verona proved that but theres no guarantees here now.
True. Just look which people Milan hired to turn the ship around when they were at their lowest. Souloukou is quite experienced in the football world but she's still a business person. We don't have an insight into the club but if she alone really has that much power over the sports related decisions in the club then that - more than gender/DEI/whatever - is the problem. You'd want the decisions made like you said and I'd really like to know how Ghisolfi was involved in it (I fear not at all).
page 38, I posted the snippet from a link that was suggesting that. Its not that the signings were poor quality, but was it the wise decision to spend so much on a couple of players when the squad is still lacking depth in a couple of vital areas. I thought the sensible thing to do with a young DDR was build on cheap signings, youth that can be improved and grow together. They went another direction which I was surprised by but it wasnt the footballing peoples choice it now appears. The choice and timing of Tottis words now are also significant to whats unfolded. Of course he knows everything from DDR's perspective. This shit storm was really brewing for the last couple of weeks. Now as for the DEI (lol) well if you were to take a blind guest what sort of words would you pick to likely describe her personality. I'll be generous and leave it at she might be prickly to deal with while DDR has always been one of the boyos. Straight forward, down to earth and no time for games, like how he just said things bluntly to the media, they did it which makes him even more of a legend.
Saw the video of the Roma fans yelling at Pellegrini in his car. They seemed pretty harsh. Furious Roma fans confront players after De Rossi fired
Go read Pinto comments in (I believe it was )La Repubblica after he left. She is the reason he left and then after he was gone she proceeded to fire everyone else that she didn't hire. She was always going to try and force DDR out because it was Pinto and the Friedkins that hired DDR, she was not part of that decision. What term would I use to describe our DEI CEO <female canine>. Nobody gets along with her. Good luck finding a competent manager with other options. These managers and agents talk and no good manager with other options is going to want to work for her.
De Rossi's emotional farewell: "This time, I'm not coming back" #DeRossi #Romahttps://t.co/s8C5vvJCuG— Italian Football News 🇮🇹 (@footitalia1) September 19, 2024
I went back and read some interviews after Pinto left, very interesting comments (these are the Romapress translations): “De Rossi asked me to stay when he first arrived. We have always had a good relationship, even before his arrival. He understood how I worked, he understood that I help out the coaches, for him I could be a sort of stable figure, he was able to count on me until the end, but I would never have changed my decision to leave.” “I have always been a soldier, it is normal for there to be a bit of a mess in the relationship between sporting director and coach, but I have always been close to the project and the club, even if the ideas are different." "Now the most important thing is to feel again what I felt at Benfica and when I arrived at Roma. Alignment and commitment with the people of the club. After Roma I’m ready for anything." "I think my time at Roma is coming to an end. I’m not talking about the end of Roma’s project or the Friedkin’s, but the mission I had is almost accomplished. Personally I feel tired." I also stumbled upon this article: "TMW says Souloukou was blindsided by the decision from the club owners, the Friedkins, who never consulted her about the firing. Indeed, Souloukou was keen to see Mourinho fulfill his contract to June before considering their options. Instead, without speaking to her, the Friedkins sacked Mourinho in the morning. Souloukou was left stunned by the decision and has expressed her frustration to friends last night. There are now suggestions Souloukou is considering her own position." I reckon this is when Souloukou begain swinging her weight around. I have to say, I've always been impressed by how the Friedkins handled the club until this decision, they brought the fans back to the stadium, I didn't realise Souloukou joined after DDR was hired and he was never her guy. It seems to me that the Friedkins have stepped back from directly running the show and allowed the CEO to have a bigger role for better or worse.... it's now dawning that this is indeed worse not better. They've pissed away 3 years of work that united the club with the fans again and put Roma on the international stage. We'll see how the results are going forward I suppose, if Juric can drag us up the table before January it will certainly paper over a lot of these wounds, but my expectations aren't great for this
