You said output is output when talking about G+A. Not unreasonable to think you're being as reductive as it sounds. That's what comes across as silly.
Dan James has not been terrific. He's been average. He's surpassed expectations for a young winger w/ no PL experience who just came from the Championship, but he's not delivered at the level required for United. There's no ********ing way around that. Which is why, my post about him being ok was made when someone was expressing reluctance in getting Sancho because we have someone who might get 10 goals and 10 assists this year.
Is that "level required" the same standard/level pre fergie or are you adjusting for where we actually are as a football club.
Sancho plays in a stable system with better players around him. Our standards in recent timr are shi8 and give me inverted RWF instead of Sancho.
We aren't going to change our opinions so agree to disagree. You don't want to back down and I don't want to be wrong.
https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/man-utd-news-sancho-transfer-17268821 By any reasonable expectations, James has done very well for us so far: that much has been obvious. But the bottom line still remains that it still hasn't changed a thing for me when it comes to our proposed interest in Sancho. Whether we can actually land him is one thing, but he still remains an exceptional/generational talent that would significantly improve our attacking options (and the team as a whole) if we could get him over the line. And even if our current situation makes it more difficult to land top tier talent, we have to shoot for the best/highest talent we can. Not to mention also the obvious and that it very much remains to be seen at this time whether James can keep up his current form for an entire season. But regardless, the need for depth upfront is pretty obvious, as evidence by how strapped we were when Martial went down: losing anyone of him, Rashford or James and we have a problem as things stand.
The level required is for us to win trophies. James is a good young winger with scope for growth and I expect him to do big things. He's the kind of player who could be very important to have over the course of a season. However, he's clearly a level below Rashford who himself is a little below Martial. If Martial is the standard for attackers at the club (he currently is) then we need to be bringing players who are at his level or can get there in a couple seasons. We obviously need a body or two in midfield, but if James were our first attacker off the bench or our rotation guy, we'd be in much better shape than with him as a full time starter, the way he has been this year.
James is a great guy to have in the team and has far exceeded expectations. However, because he’s been good doesn’t mean we should pass on Sancho if there’s a slimmer of hope. Good teams have competition for places. Adding depth and competition for spots is never a bad thing.
James on his partnership with Rashford. https://www.goal.com/en/news/james-...ford-as-he-aims-to/1a38gkaw0yi461qm71vnzskdvx
Rashford on James: “We speak about character. That’s character for me. He’s getting knocked down every time he’s getting the ball for 95 minutes, but he’s still getting up and running with the ball and making passes. He’s been class for us.” #MUFC pic.twitter.com/2eWBhsPzph— MUFC Scoop (@MUFCScoop) December 30, 2019
I think he has 6 assist and 3 goals in league which is tidy but he has gassed out recently and needs rest. Overall a good addition to squad and plenty of room for improvement.
The positive from James's current form is that hopefully that will put to bed the illusion that our wide issues (on the right especially) have been resolved. Definitely do not have anything against him and he has his uses. But he's a spot/squad player at best (just like AP). And although circumstances demanded differently, it never was right or even fair to expect either to be the solution in their respective positions. We've got Bruno at least to relegate AP to the bench, in the long term. But this summer, one of the top priorities remains to bring in a RW/RWF, who can make the right side his own offensively. Sancho is still the ideal solution there (although it admittedly will be difficult to get him particularly if we fail to secure CL next season). But there still quite a few options available to us. On paper at least, it's not like it should be hard to fill that position with someone capable and significantly improve on what we have now.
He was invisible today but I'm willing to give him another season coming off the bench. Hopefully with some more quality on the field.
He’s played way too many games and asked to do too much so far. He should be playing Greenwood type minutes, not starter minutes.
Decent squaddie type. Not a starter. Would keep over Lingard, tbh. But United should be looking at higher quality for that right sided attacker.

He has one spike - which is pace when there is space to run in to. Useful against the top teams when they will have more of the ball. Other than that is useful when teams that have bunkered are behind against us and will need to take more chances later in games. So will be useful as a sub if we ever get our attack sorted out. He shouldnt be starting - it just shows up his all round game. But beggars and choosers ...
Anyone watch the Leeds doc on Amazon? It features a segment about transfers and one of the main highlights is James failed move to Leeds. I remember reading he was close but I didn't realize how close. He was literally at Leeds, had already completed his medical, signed a contract, had pictures taken with their jersey, and it all fell through because the American owner for Swansea didn't answer his phone for hours to sign off on the transfer.
So we continue to start James on the right (when he clearly prefers the left) and continue to play him against teams that sit (when he clearly needs space to run into) then all get understandably get p$$$$d at him for being so useless. Our use of him is a clear manifestation of the lack of options at RWF provided by the clubs heirarchy - we should be equally as mad at that as at him for his still below par performances, even in those circumstances.
Daniel James has told Solskjær he wants to stay at #mufc and fight for his place. Leeds have made a loan offer. The situation is likely to be reassessed if United sign Jadon Sancho or another winger #mulive [sky]— utdreport (@utdreport) September 27, 2020
Not convinced, but he is not good enough as an attacker at WF and we didn’t buy one. One of the youngsters may be a better option but they should probably take a look at him in this role in training. 1314594055670685698 is not a valid tweet id
That's 2 pretty good displays in a row for him. Let's hope he can keep this going: need him at minimum to be a decent squad option to justify his place in the squad. Which he has done in his last few appearances.
I hope he keeps going to another team. He's horrendous and useless in most situations. He's not a good footballer. He just runs fast and kicks hard. He has no craft or thought to his game and hasn't shown ANY improvement in that respect in his time here. He's a TERRIBLE footballer and for whatever reason he gets rated for working hard but his defensive metrics don't bear that out at all. He's not as good a dribbler or crosser as Aaron Wan-Bissaka. https://www.squawka.com/en/comparison-matrix/?compare=cx44ts5SfiuyS3JsY4TFS
