it's one thing to use your dual citizenship as a bargaining chip, quit another to utter the words "i might play for mexico." he is not going to be liked for a LONG LONG time. my advise - leave now.

    "2:0 axis," i like it.

I would complain, but oh, wait, we've got quite a few players who are from other countries and had been born, raised, and lived in those countries for quite a while.

I can't stand him, and he would be no loss to our Nats so good riddance to him!!

I do love the underlying theme of his comment..."If I'm not good enough to play for the US, I can always go to Mexico!!"

Just read the article, the one on MLSnet as well as the full-context piece on the Boston Herald's site, and I don't know what all the hub-bub's about, bub.

Daniel Hernandez may be a quality MLS player, yes-- but his place right now would be too deep into the queue of USA midfield depth. And same goes for Mexico, too.

Due to the numbers game, he won't be winning any international caps anytime soon, by either country, even on a "by merit" basis.

Sad to say it, but that's how the ol' cookie crumbles...

    Cheers,
    William

It would be ironic on sooooooo many levels if El Tri were to cap Hernandez...

    How the mighty have fallen...;)

Never again should he be suggested to play for the US. He obviously doesn't consider it a great enough honor to play for his country (which he has made clear isn't the US). So, go to Mexico, we (the US) have made it this far without you, and we will continue to go further.

A "traitor"? Lighten up, people. It's not as if he schemed to turn over West Point to the British. More than one of the "oriundi italiani" living in Argentina, Belgium, etc., have attempted to play for the Azzurri at one time or another.

    Dooley-Germany

First the NFL refuses to come a knocking, now he thinks he's gonna high tail it to the Azteca? He must be an American soccer fan cuz his delusions of grandeur are astounding.

pretty arrogant if you ask me....he makes it like he's sure that he deserves playing time with the nats....

first off, arena would never tolerate his attitude....

second of all, he's not national team material having seen him play on metro for quite some time...

since when is hernandez so good????

he's got a free kick, but one he never seems to intend....he always seems to run up to it and kick it as hard as he can and hope it goes in....

his ability to trap the ball is p1ss poor....his ability to hold the ball isn't very good either....i would say it might even be just about average for an mls player, which, imo, doesn't cut it for the US, but it may for Me-hee-co....

DH is an ass....looking forward to his visit to the swamp....

Since when have these deficiencies prevented defenders from getting a shot with the USMNT?

To the one in the Boston Herald? Certainly...

    http://www2.bostonherald.com/sport/soccer/revs02182003.htm

And a pull-quote from Gus Martens' article...

That's the significant piece of the article, per the topic of this thread...

    I don't think that's the point.
It's that he wants to play for Mexico (bitter, blood rivals ... perhaps you've heard of them?). If he said he wanted to play for guatamala (or whoever, it's just an example) I don't think most people would care that much.
The point is that it's Mexico.

I wouldn't care if it was anone but Mexico. Unfortunately it is Mexico, so I care. I don't think he's good enough for either team anyway.

If you take this story and replace "USA" with "England" and Mexico with "Argentina" you get why he's a traitor. He's willing to play for our biggest rivals. ************ that. I'd rather have Goose out there than DH now.

You know if Daniel Hernandez is playing for Mexico, I think thats a GOOD thing. If he had serious international potential, I might be upset about this.

He wants play for a country that he is a citizen of. I dont know how you can begrudge someone that simply because its inconvenient for you since you feel they are rivals.

Its his life and he is entitled to make either decision. We arent talking national security here, just soccer.

I find it amusing that half of the people putting down Daniel Hernandez are bitter Mutts fans. You lost him, so no he's not good enough for anybody? I may be alone in this one, as a Rev fan, but I'm sticking up for the midfield laser of Daniel Hernandez. I'm sure it didn't help to soothe your wounds when Hernandez rockets one from 35 yards out on the 4th of July last year. Salt in a wound? As almost everybody polled agreed, in the end, the Revs got the better of that deal. And now you're bitter with Nicol, and Serna, and Kamler, and Hernandez. I'm sure that if Kamler said he thought he should've gotten a Nat team tryout, y'alls would ahve shot him down for that too. Hernandez is great, and the only reason you're all attacking him is that he's no longer playing for, as the Rev boards refer to them, the MetroScum. Congratulations. Hope it makes you feel better that you've put down somebody who made it big away from you.

I'm no Scum fan, but if you think Hernandez is great you're on drugs. He is passable as an MLS player on his best day. On his best day it possible he could play water boy for the Nats. And as much as I'd like to take a stab at the Mexicans, even I will admit he ain't good enough to play for them. El Salvador, Guatemala, etc. - maybe, but unlikely.
