Burn-UAB[R] I know this match is a few weeks away but let me be the first to say that I give condolences to all Burn fans on your inability to beat my alma mater. I could be mistaken but I think they've played twice and tied twice in the past.
when/where is it? i saw the fire school birm. so. in the rain last year - that was cool to see - uab should put up a much better fight
I'm sure you know so much about UAB. What is your alma mater or should I ask about where you graduated high school?
1) LSJU, aka Stanford 2) John Marshal High School (I thought my little jab at UAB (University of Arkansas - Batesville?) was warranted due to your cockiness re: the Burn. No, I know nothing about UAB. I think they make the NCAA Tournament every other year or so, and then maybe make it a round or so. They also have tied the Burn in a couple of exhibitions. So I know two things about them. Is there more?
1st......UAB is Univ of Alabama-Birmingham 2nd.....probably not good enough this year to do anything but lose to the Burn 3rd......some good players to look for......Clint Baumstark(GK) who is on US U20 team, Marin Pusek is a good Canadian MFer and Nnamdi Ngwe is a dribble happy forward who can be great or terrible.
No match results here. Just being cautious. Does anyone know if the game against UAB is still going to take place on Saturday morning? I'm concerned with the weather here in Texas that the game may be called off. I'll be coming from Austin, and I don't want to travel needlessly. In the alternative, does anyone have the name and number of someone from the Burn front office who would have the most up-to-date information on whether the game is going to be played?
It would be best to call the Burn office this afternoon to double check, but I'd be very surprised if the match was called off. The weather forecast says that any rain should taper off by late Friday evening. Since the Burn and UAB are playing on FieldTurf, the field should be in fine shape.
I stayed until the mid-point of the second half. The Burn scored 2 goals, both by Kreis and assisted by Vaca. Overall, it was a decent scrimmage for the Burn. Vaca clearly has some very nice passing skills. I think Kreis will perform better this year if he just focuses on being a scorer. Mckeon was only carded once but deserved another. He is not a bad player, just reckless at times. It seems Jeffries is placing players in different positions. T-bone and Suarez flipped flopped. Maybe this change has something to do with how Bruce views Suarez as more of a central defender. Morrow is definitely the leader of the defense. O'brien, Rhine and Pareja did not play. Sorry this is not a more complete summary. Sarge
UAB sucked. They had very few chances with the ball on the Burn's side of the field - especially in the first half. Chivas was just about useless in the first half - he did very little. I have no idea if he played in teh 2nd half or not. Vaca and Kreis looked good. Deering played well with his usual intensity. I don't know who the guy was who played up top with Kreis (looked like Ben Olsen - at least the hair part) he played okay) Morrow and Suarez looked good. Bonseu too. Several players I did not recognize. McKeon could have been yellowed 3 times or even given a straight red. I wouldn't say he's reckless - he is deliberately a hack. I have never liked him - but having said that having someone like him to bring in at minute 75 to protect a lead might have its uses. I predict he makes the team in which case he'll still be a bastard - but he'll be our bastard. My first time at the stadium. Its small. The field is okay. I'm sure Morrow is thrilled go from playing in front of 45,000 at Highbury to this. Oh well - It could be worse. For a HS stadium - its a damn nice stadium. But - if they are going to get that stadium ready for April 12 - they better get moving. It seems little has been done and we have ESPN2 coming to town on Opening Day.
Don't know where you got this from, the National T.V. schedule says we have only one game shown nationally and thats at L.A. tape delayed at 1:00am. Can't you feel the love for the Burn?
Thanks. I was wondering what UAB was/is. At least, whoever they are, they've got a men's soccer team. My alma mater (Utah) hasn't seen the light yet. If they think they're going to get my dollar support without soccer, well, think again, Utes.
Your guess would be correct - but mainly the balls in the air or on the ground went to open space and there was no one really close except for Morrow and Suarez. UAB had nowhere near the ball control Dallas did - meaning possession as well as just the ability to control the ball. I'm not sure how much the faster fake field had to do with this - as the Burn would be more used to it than UAB. The ESPN 2 game on April 12 is referred to in several letters I have received from the Burn and is noted in the team schedule on dallasburn.com
