' 1-1 UNC platoon-subs in 5.

' 1-1 Gomera-Stevens blocks a clearance at 25m mid-right, does 2-3 cutbacks in traffic, drives to arc top mid-right, Mucherera swings at ball and gets Gomera-Stevens' right outer thigh with her shin. Foul.

' 1-1 WSU fk at arc top mid-right, trick play! Gomera-Stevens dummies over ball, 2nd player ground pass down box right for Weaver 1-v-1, her cross blocked over.

' 1-1 WSU right ck (WSU 4-0 cks), to 6-top 1/3 left, Dickey catches high in traffic.

' 2-1 Mucherera drives down wide left and outpaces McLyn and Goff to 5m, drives a low, fast cross over Dederick stranded at near post, over Russo(?) 1-v-1 in 1/4 right lane. Strickland wins her far-post race past Hernandez-Repreza to 2m 3-right, stoops and drills a header into center back low with net empty. Heck, this UNC team does USoCal's attack better than USoCal does :p

' 2-1 WSU subs in Grayson Lynch (fr) for Morgan Weaver (sr).

' 2-1 Lynch chases 1-v-2 down box left to 5m, beats both with a stop-turn, dribbles inward past a 3rd to 7m 6-left, shoots right instep soft roller to 3m center, UNC defender slide-blocks before Dickey can fall on it. Youthful energy, almost a result.

HT 2-1. UNC are winning midfield on energy, as WSU lack the single-platoon gas to outrun them into spots and connect every pass. WSU's direct game does create a fairly steady stream of low-odds configurations, which might be our best bet going forward. On offense, UNC always has the threat of blowing past us for crosses, so we need to win every play in at least 1 of 3 places: the pass, the far-post receiver, or the save.

' 2-1 Russo lays off to Cox at 25m arc right, continues her own lurking in arc left lane. 4 defenders turn heads and step up to Cox, she passes flat diagonal to box top 6-left into Russo's stride. Russo turns corner to 8m 6-left, shoots directly into Dederick's basket. UNC are being superior on passing combos, while WSU are stuck in the mode of hoofing the ball forward into a stationary 1-v-1 backshield, and we can't even control the 1st bounce, so UNC collect many of our outlet passes for free.

' 2-1 Gomera-Stevens drives right outstep longball up box right lane, too far for Weaver(?), UNC collects.

' 2-1 Russo receives at 14m mid-right, looking back over right shoulder, promptly turn-and-shoots right roundhouse -- her feet slip out, shot goes awry, WSU intercepts and clears. Russo stays down in a tuck for several seconds, gets up gingerly. The grass is a bit slick today -- neither team is used to this warm weather in December :D

' 2-1 RB McLyn has been extremely aggressive in poking at the ball for disruptions, steals it cleanly from Cox(?). WSU long pass up wide right, Bennett(?) eludes 1 and crosses to 9m 1/3 left. 5'11" Collins header blocked, UNC win the drop.

' 2-1 Gomera-Stevens quick longball from circle back to arc top wide left, UNC gathers, Weaver fouls trying to jar ball free.

' 2-1 UNC subs in 5

' 2-1 Bennett passes from circle right to Weaver cutting left-to-right at 30m arc right. Weaver passes to 16m center into Collins' stride splitting the high CBs. Collins continues to 13m 3-right, shoots right instep too thin across mouth, just wide left low.

' 2-1 Dorsey passes up wide left to Cox just past midfield. McLyn, 1-v-1 in space, again times an ultra-aggressive lunge-poke, jars ball free (and shoulder-charges Cox down), no call. Prompt forward serve, Gomera-Stevens crosses from box top wide right to 6m 1/4 right, Bell outjumps Collins and heads ball out to 12m mid-right. Bennett overtakes Wubben-Moy, slide-shoots right off her shoe to right post low, Dickey catches with a mini-bobble.

' 2-1 Myers crosses from 15m wide left, cleared to box right. Gomera-Stevens does two dragbacks to beat 3 defenders, steps up to arc right, shoots left instep outswinging to right post low, Dickey dives and catches.

' 2-1 Hernandez-Repreza fk from circle top right to spot, Russo(?) jumps rotating ccw and backheads leftward. CB Minniss shoots one-touch from 12m 6-left to 1/3 left chest-high, Dickey catches with perfect positioning.

' 2-1 WSU longball inswings past Wubben-Moy, Weaver hop-touches into stride through box top 6-right, Bell stretch-slides and pokes ball away over endline right. Well, Alger did that to Cox in 1H.

' 2-1 UNC right throw-in, Russo darts to 8m wide right, shross rises toward left 90, Dederick slaps it over left 90.

' 2-1 Weaver chases down box left behind the LB, one-touch cross banks off the LB over endline left. WSU subs 4 starters back in.

' 2-1 Stoppage, trainer gives Bell an on-field vision test, accompanies her off.

' 2-1 WSU left ck, UNC head out to 30m. Alger chips high and soft to 6m, Dickey comes out and catches high.

' 2-1 WSU longball, Weaver turns past M.Goff through box top left to 14m mid-left, shoots left instep across mouth with Dickey stranded near-post, just wide right low.

' 2-1 Mucherera drives a cross from 4m wide left outswinging away, Dederick comes out and catches high.

' 2-1 H.Goff left ck, to 2m 5-right, Dickey comes out but doesn't get there, ends up 1-v-3 with 3 Cougars unmarked -- and we head wide right.

' 2-1 Gomera-Stevens drives a header pass from 27m to 15m mid-left, Weaver gets in past the flank but is offside.

' 2-1 Now UNC are in a bit of bad beach wvb, clearing the ball away upward and not to teammates.

' 2-1 Pinto goes to right corner flag, Alger pokes ball off her heel and out.

' 2-1 Collins rounds Redei up right touch, long pass rolls upon right touchline for 20m+ before finally falling off the paint at 10m.

' 2-1 UNC hold 2-v-2 at right corner flag, win a throw-in, keep it there. Russo escapes from 3, tries the cute backheel tool off defender's leg, misses everybody, over endline.

' 2-1 Alger hoofs forward to arc top mid-left, UNC clears and draws a foul.

' 2-1 Bell fk from own 1/3, tails off into left touch. 36" left ...

' 2-1 Gomera-Stevens winds up for one last hoof, Pinto slide-pokes ball free. Gomera-Stevens rounds her, UNC jams the 2nd pass, pass up wide left, and there's no more time for even the flight of a ball.

FT 2-1. Congratulations to North Carolina for advancing to the 2019 National Championship game. We tried, we got behind them a couple of times and missed two wide-open shots in 2H, they didn't miss theirs. This is obviously the best year we've ever had, in forever

Currently on a 48 hour fasting, dressed in UCLA gear doing meditation right now. We're going to need a miracle to get through this Stanford team but I believe that it could be possible. UCLA will fight until the very end and give them a game at least even if it ultimately becomes a loss.

UCLA's chances just went up in smoke with the missed PK, which could have put them back within 1 goal. Huge moment. Fischel is good but she's a freshman and kind of telegraphed where she was aiming with the ball. Better to have a vet take a PK in a national semi, no?

Beyond that, the ref should have carded the Stanford keeper after the kick for unsportsmanlike conduct. Bush-league play.

Just saw replay of first Stanford goal: Was that not a ball Micah absolutely should have saved? Looked like a very soft goal. Can't give up a soft goal at this stage--and especially to a powerhouse scoring team like Stanford. They are winning the midfield battle, and that must change if UCLA is even going to keep this game respectable.

Stanford's athleticism is off the charts--and they are physical and soccer smart besides. Lethal combination of team and individual qualities.

One thing is for sure..Stanford is clinical. Macario is amazing but i forgot how just how good Sophia Smith is. i rememberedl her tearing it up with the youth NT. Stanford's defense though can be had. UCLA has gotten behind them a few times with good passing.
