Madrid will be on the brink of elimination if they lose to Dortmund in Germany today.

To be honest they have not been impressive throughout the whole competition. AEK could have beaten them in Athens and Spain, Moscow Minnows stole a draw in Spain, and lowly Roma WON in Spain.

Is this the end for them this season despite possibly their greatest ever squad?

If they do go out then that strange clicking noise you'll hear in a few hours will be the sound of all their loyal far-eastern fans deleteting their name from their favourite team lists in their profiles.

There's a first time for everything. So I hope Dortmund wins.

(well... not exactly true... but okay)

    Uh, no?

You're starting the death watch a little early there, chief. There are still two matchdays left, and if Dortmund slip up in either of them - and they're likely to do so against AC Milan - it's still entirely possible for El Madrid to qualify. So don't start the party yet.

Deep into the game 81', and the score is still the same. I don't think this game was a "must win" but it definitely makes the next two "must win." One is against Lokomotiv, and the other against AC.

Lokomotiv is mathematically eliminated, so it's between against them and Dortmund.

Does anyone else here think Milan will field all the big guns to stop Madrid next game? I think they'd be pretty stupid not to.

    Game ends 1-1

I guess you never can count Real out, especially when they put 4 forwards in the game!

    (lol)

I'm not sure what Milan will do. They have the chance to help eliminate Madrid by going for the win in Spain, and then fielding a second choice eleven against Dortmund.

    Madrid are damn lucky.

A draw was so much better than a defeat, it was almost like a win for them.

I can't see Dortmund qualifying now unless Milan do them a favour.

Milan will play 4-5 subs for each of the two remaining games. That is what they did in Group Phase I when they clinched a spot in the next round.

It only makes sense. Why chance injury when you are guaranteed first place? Milan seems to play poorer when there is nothing to lose, so expect them to come away with perhaps 1 point from the next two matches. Who they manage to draw may decide who goes through.

We'd all like to see Madrid in the Qtr's in terms of prestige.

But they are not playing well at all and maybe don't deserve it.

I think Milan will try and knock them out now to avoid getting stung later.

This is a good point. On the other hand, you have to think that guys like Jon Dahl will try to use the opportunity to play well and earn more playing time.

Please, you wish an English team would be as much as a "joke" Madrid have been for the last few years. :D

Aren't the richest teams in Europe from England?

    What?

    Richest from income-yes.

Didn't madrid rid themselves of all their debt in one fell sweep?
Thus enabling them to spend lavishly again?

That plus all the money they made in the CL in the last few years helped as well. :D

Manchester spend 30 million pounds on a defender, and they could have spend more if they wanted to. You're trying to tell me English teams don't have the money to compete with Madrid?

Man Yoo probably do have-although at this moment in time even they would struggle to pull off another major coup.Certainly nothing like the 50 million quid for one player thingy.

As for the others...no.(possible exception of Arsenal)

Chelsea are ranked in the top 6 richest clubs in the world i believe, but are saddled with massive debt.
Now, if CFC could get rid of their debt like Madrid did from the sale of property, they could also.

BTW..I was 7 years old when i first watched Real Madrid...it was in Athens....you lot played us.....remember the game?

Yay to Chelsea for winning a Cup Winners Cup 32 years ago. ;) (way before my time by the by)

I'm not surprised if you buy players like Melchiot and Gronkjaer....you people did Ajax a favor by taking them away from Amsterdam, and you even gave them money for it. Pretty damn nice of you lot if you ask me. :D

If the ref would have been any good Dortmund would have won 2-1. The dissalowed Dortmund goal made no sense at all! A phucking disgrace!
    Suprised nobody here mentions it.

No bad talk about Gronkjaer. He's a good player. Melchiot is a differnt story but he seems to perform well at Chelsea (as far as I know)
