Reading back through the boards a little, I noticed that some people think we're on par with your 'A-League' teams. Aswell as being a little funny. It's also a fair bit of the mark... The standard of football in the English League's is far superiour to that of the MLS & lower leagues. Even to the extent of Division 1 Clubs being comfortably better than some of the MLS clubs. I think you guys are in for a shock when you meet us in a friendly this summer. We have some of the best young talent in the Country. Michael Dawson - wanted by all top Premier League clubs, England Under 21 captain and already been included in the full England squad for a meet-up before. Andy Reid - Subject of a 5m ($7.5m?) & a player from Tottenham Hotspur and a full International for Republic of Ireland. I'm still trying to make my way to the US for our pre-season tour, and look foward to seeing Freddy Adu. But more so, Ben Olsen. whom we had on loan before breaking his leg. I think you'll be suprised when 'little A-League' Forest come to Washington...
Don't know if you are being a troll or not but do a little research before running your mouth. DC has a terrific record against Premiership teams including a SO win against Blackburn and two 1-0 victories against Tottenham (including home on their home field). You will be in pre-season form against a team in mid-season form. That in and of itself will be problematic for you.
i don't think most people believe forest or any other d1 team is a-league caliber. i certainly don't. as someone who became a football fan in the 70s, i have always held forest up as a "big club". i think anyone who paid even brief attention to this year's FA Cup will realize how successful the d1 sides in england are. i think a few fans overestimate the exhibition wins we have over english teams but they are something big for us--and as pointed out above, these tend to occur when we are in form and your lads on training, plus it is hot as piss here in the summer. while i have enjoyed our play against these clubs, no one should pretend they were in season form. i think you'll be be pleased and perhaps suprised by united. we have some nice players as well, play a pretty fun offense and will want to show well against yours. we also have what most folks consider the best atmosphere in mls. i think this will be a fun, fast game--these games usually allow the ball to flow through the midfield so the play tends to be pretty liberated and fun. and of course, you might have some new folks, etc to check out.
Put away your Robin Hood outfits, though -- you'll be the rich club when you visit us. I'm looking forward to some serious pint curls when some of your travelling supporters visit. GM
I doubt anyone here seriously thinks any Division 1 club is on the level of the A-League. It's just trash talk, do not fret. I hope lots of Forest fans make it over to the States this summer, it should be fun. I had a great time seeing Forest vs. Burnley at the City Ground in March.
I said this a long time ago, but it bears repeating. Forest will not fall simply for being lower-league, but for being English. Our record against Premier League opponents speaks for itself...even though I thought the DCU-Sp*rs result was a little dodgy. The point is, we won, and we will win again.
And why did y'all break his leg anyway? He's just now getting back to his pre-injury form, though still not as fast.
troublemaker actually i am hosting a group of very cool forest fans here in DC and then joining them in richmond for some fun with their club.
seriously, i was one of the ones who said that this match should be awesome. some people argued that they should have brought premiership teams, but Forest has a ton of history to them and it should be a great match win or lose. I used to follow forest alot before I got addicted to DC. I still support them when their matches are on tv or a big match is happening ill check the scores and i do get excited for them. I also follow York City pretty often which is due to Chris Bergin. hah anyway, i am excited for the match
Nobody with half a brain thinks Div 1 is on par with the A-League. Unfortunately, a large number of posters on Bigsoccer scratch their way through life on a quarter brain or less.
I know he's in our Academy. Has he joined you or something? Played for Aston Villa before us though. And we also beat Newcastle in a pre-season friendly, 3-1.
