My flight today from New Delhi appears to be still going - rerouting near Saudi (yikes) and Egypt before hitting Paris for the connection back to DC ...

Why not re-route in the other direction? I would do that when crazy things were happening in the Middle East.

Not sure - but all the flights here are booked left and right. Talked to about 12 different people today who had Dubai connections canceled and are scrambling to figure out ways home.

Dispensationalist dipshits in the military have reportedly been telling units that this war is a Christian war that will trigger Armageddon and the rapture.

I'm so sick of this kind of Fundamentalist Fuckwittery.

Bombing “terrorists” in Ecuador now. So many files, not enough bombs.

We're in Kuala Lumpur - itinerary is fly home in a couple of weeks via Bangkok then Dubai, spending a few days in each place.

We went to the Emirates office here today to see what options we had. Place was packed. Service was very professional.

Our suggestion was (as bayred mentions) to drop the whole Dubai segment and route us Bangkok-Hong Kong-Toronto. Were there about an hour then were told nothing they could do -- our tickets are for 2 weeks away and priority is people whose flights are imminent but have been cancelled (or could be cancelled in the next few days).

If our Dubai-Toronto flight is cancelled then we'll become priority but that wouldn't be known until a few days before we're scheduled to leave.

Guess it makes sense -- have to deal with people who are stuck there now -- but we thought we were doing everyone a favour by getting off the books.

On the flight here yesterday I was talking to a Polish couple. They had boarded an Emirates plane to Dubai in the Maldives, all told to get off. They hadn't booked with Emirates and Emirates stance is "not our problem to fix" so they put together their own route home which is: Male-Kuala Lumpur-Turkmenistan  -London-Luton-Warsaw. All with close connection times, the only "break" a whole 19 hours in UK where they have to get from London to Luton.

They must be crazy. Very nice people though. They offered me a choc bar and a banana.:)

Same… good luck. Might be worth just buying new return tickets now (if your budget allows) and then cancel the return legs if/when necessary (if you do fly back through Dubai, then you can cancel the newly booked legs). If the Mideast is still blocked to commercial flights in two weeks (probably) all the other return leg routes are going to be booked solid and you’ll be fighting with all the others trying to fly east from the other side of the world instead of west…

I’ve had a couple of travel snafus like this over the years where large numbers of flights are cancelled (usually weather). You are almost always better off just eating the cancellation fees (or travel insurance).

My daughter will be flying from New Delhi in a couple of days to Poland. She has a direct flight. Hoping that makes a difference.

It should make a big difference - I got out of Delhi to Paris without any real issues apart from the delayed flights due to new flight patterns. Granted we almost missed our connection to Dulles - but it all worked out. Minus my bag not making and being stuck in Paris.

The US has asked Ukraine for help in dealing with Shahed drones. The Shahed drones that have been raining down on Ukraine for the last 4 years. The Iranian Shahed drones that have been raining down on Ukraine for the last 4 years.

There’s a word for this but I can’t remember it.

Same as for USscouse's daughter. You route over part of Iran? Since Russian Airspace has been closed (I believe it still is) there's no other way from India except through Dubai.

Air India, Air france from Delhi, Bombay etc might be flying direct lines to Cairo, I suppose, not using the northern arc - but the longer straight line, and then its connections to Europe. Seems like a workable solution except that its not so easy to swap about airport terminal space/facilities like that.....

    Big mess.....

So ... given the Tramp allegations published today re Epstein (which we already all knew) ... which country gets attacked next?

(btw - the allegations are disgusting and in keeping with what we'd expect from this monster)

Disgusting is a mild adjective. Don't know what adjective does them justice. Vomit-inducing comes to mind.

Trump was asked about it, called it a stupid question and refused to answer.
I mean -- his great friend Vladimir would never do that, now would he?

As does this, from a guy who'd treat a papercut as a health care emergency ....

Hundreds of people have been killed across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on 28 February. Six Americans were killed as part of the conflict when an unmanned aircraft hit a U.S. facility in Kuwait, but so far attacks haven’t arrived on US shores.

When asked by TIME whether those in the United States should worry about domestic attacks, Trump said: “I guess. But I think they’re worried about that all the time,” Trump added. “We think about it all the time. We plan for it. But yeah, you know, we expect some things. Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die."
