They didn't much like the idea of Moscow as Hiroshima though, so they sat.
    As you do.

This is true - but they could say to the exconomic institutions - the way you and we avoid an all out trade blockade is by your willingness to engage here... otherwise you leave us no choice.

It's true to state about this that the type of governance we are getting is what thoughtless, demented, stupid-Trump-rally-type and vicious, mean-spirited anti-constitutionalist type people are okay with- but they are approx 25% of the adult public,if even that. The entirety of the democratic vote and the vast majority of the deluded and tricked centrist voters DID NOT vote for any of this stuff.
Therefore, if the elections can be safely navigated, this corruption of governance will be curtailed. However, I think that given the barefaced willingness to openly lie of this group of traitors the possibly only way to ensure that this happens is to set-up the threat of a massive general strike from the moment any actual move of cancellation of the upcoming elections is set in motion.

While telling the US to go suck it and whomp us with their "economic bazooka" would certainly be viscerally satisfying, but from a strategic standpoint it would be very stupid. Make no mistake, NATO is under threat from Russia right now - with a window of 2-5 years where if Russia is allowed to rebuild its army they would have a significant military advantage vs a non-US backed NATO. While NATO countries have well trained armies, they lack three critical things 1) intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (e.g. spy satellites), 2) operational theater control capabilities (e.g. AWACs, aerial refueling, and suppression of anti-air defenses), and 3) military mass to sustain extended fighting.

So while it is undoubtedly galling to European leaders to have to respond to the puerile posturing that Trump is pulling right now, don't expect any great rupture. What will happen is that the EU will dance and deflect and swallow their pride for the time being. But they will learn their lesson as well, and as long as the UK, Germany, and France can stay in agreement they will build their independent defensive capability. Then the next time the US is attacked or asks for a coalition to help it with a military adventure, they will happily sit on the sidelines and let the US deal with the fallout of today's stupidity all by their lonesome...

Could be. It could also be the case that the stomach for/among young people to risk their lives in war for Russia is fairly depleted - and likely will deplete completely should they launch into any more wars in the next 10 years. Russian population growth also in heavy decline to stabilize that anytime soon...

I suppose they could plan to conscript everyone in Ukraine...

All of which pouints back to my (and every other sane person's) conclusion at the outset. Trump is a rotten traitorous b@stard

And I didn;t even need a radar view of Paul Manafort to tell me that

Lumpy is now threatening the UK and the Chagos Islands (Diego Garcia AFB). Same shtick as Greenland. I doubt even he imagined all this bullshit would deflect from Epstein so beautifully.

    Haha. Good luck Lumps.

Edit - imagine if Europe caves? This is all surreal. Did people in Germany feel like this in the 1930s?

Allow me one given. That the Democrats win the presidency in 2028.

If we were in normal times, I think what we would see would be a plethora of indictments against various flying monkeys, including Musk, and indeed Lumpy himself. But I think this unlikely for a few reasons:
    1. I’m sure Lumpy, like Biden, will preemptively pardon a lot of his flying monkeys.
    2. That bullshit SC ruling about official vs. unofficial acts
    3. The new president might decide that healing is the way to go and concentrate of ridding the civil service of MAGAidiot infestation.

Now I know many folks will argue rule of law, if you break the law, you should be prosecuted. But I think even with the best case scenario in 2028, WH, House and Senate with 60 votes, my money would be on Lumpy getting away with pretty much everything, leaving the Democrats to clean up his messes and crimes, foreign and domestic.

    Allow me one given.

You need a predecessor 'given': That 2028 elections will actually take place.

OK make it two: That 2028 elections will actually take place, and they are run cleanly without (eg) Proud Boys (aka ICE agents) strolling up and down voter lineups in blue states dragging people away for a few days to interrogate them.

As per my post, the Democrat! :p

Impossible to say at the moment. Still a very wide open field. Which only goes to show the dearth of leadership there.

need to see headlines like this every day until he stops talking about Greenland

Danish pension fund to sell $100 million in Treasurys, citing ‘poor’ U.S. government finances
    https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/20/akademikerpension-us-treasury-greenland-trump.html
    • Danish pension operator AkademikerPension said it is exiting U.S. Treasurys over finance concerns tied to America’s budget shortfall.
    • The move comes amid increasing tensions with the U.S. over Greenland as President Donald Trump pushes for control of the island.
    • AkademikerPension said it plans to have closed its position of around $100 million in U.S. Treasurys by the end of the month.

A Danish lawmaker was reprimanded after startlingly telling President Trump to “f–k off” during a recent meeting to discuss the US’s campaign to buy Greenland.

“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated country. It is not for sale,” European Parliament Member Anders Vistisen said while addressing Trump during a speech to the European Union’s legislative body on Jan. 13.

“Let me put this in words you might understand: Mr. President, f—k off,” he raged.

ICE will soon be sending a delegation of 120 heavily-armed masked agents to Denmark to have a chat with Mr Vistisen.
