A column from the Washington Post describes the population shift away from centers like NY, LA, and SF to 2nd-tier cities such as St. Louis, Orlando, and Columbus. It would be a good idea for MLS to be keeping an eye on these population shifts and demographics when deciding where the next teams should go.

For your part, how is your city doing in terms of demographics? Are you seeing an influx of people likely to go to MLS games, or an outflow?

Here in DC, we seem to be pretty stable; no big influx or outflow. But then I'm not out there counting.
