This was talked about on the Welcome from Rapidsfan thread, but is getting lost in all the trash talking.

First of all, the equivalent thread on the Rapids forum:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3590155&posted=1#post3590155

Czar Pazzo and Sempuukyaku have expressed interest in getting a Cup competition started between SLC and Colorado. I already know of 3-4 people besides myself on the Rapids side who are interested. I'm not sure who/if/how you want to organize it on this side, but I thought I'd at least get the ball rolling.

As for the Rapids side, I'm trying to get somebody to volunteer to handle any oganizational things in Denver. I live in Phoenix and know a limited amount of the fan base outside of BigSoccer so I'm probably not the best person to organize it from the Rapids side, though I will if nobody else steps up.

I am definitely interested, and I believe the Loyalists are as well. Our fearless leader Blitzzfan might need to get wind of this. We and the Rapids' supporters could pitch in to buy a trophy and then present it to the fans of whichever team wins the aggregate series season-long. It would be cool if it stayed among supporters and not to the teams themselves. Anyone else?

Very cool idea. We could bring the trophy to each game.

I think the suggested Alpine Cup is an excellent name.

    Amazing.

When Salt Lake joined MLS, I made some glib comment like "Great! Colorado will be pleased. Only a team from Utah could actually make Colorado sound interesting."

And, wow, I was right. RSL is going to actually make Colorado interesting.

Alpine Cup? Too Swiss, and too, I dunno, geographically obvious.

The Brimstone cup is great because it's all about the fans passion and hatred for eachother, not some stupid territorial bragging right.

    Whaaaaat abooooout. . . . . THE YETI CUP!!!!

A good idea, IMHO, in the Rapids thread was the "King of the Mountains" trophy.

Good point. By the way, what's the L.A. derby going to be called? Excluding "some stupid territorial bragging right" name, or, "something geographically obvious" name, of course.

I've got it -- how about the "12 easy points for Chivas" Cup? :D

Well the gang on the Rapids side have an early leader for the competition name and trophy:

    King of the Mountains
    Trophy: Ice Pick

Similar to some college football games (Stanford - Cal for example) the Ice Pick would be mounted to a plaque with the winning team name inscribed on it every year.

Thoughts from the ReAL Salt Lake fans?

I like it. Though I like the singular form "King of the Mountain" better.

So, is the plaque for, like, safety purposes?

Anyway, King(s) of the Mountain(s) is definitely an idea. Ice pick indeed!

    Cheers,

I'm in agreement. Saw this on the other thread and liked it. I personally like King of the Mountains (plural). The Ice Pick trophy works for me, unless someone comes up with something better.

For you Colorado lurkers, we've been on this from the beginning. We've just been waiting for some Colorado fans to show up and handle your end of the deal. We were beginning to think there weren't any!

For those of you who didn't see it in the other thread, here is the example picture:

A new idea for the trophy is gaining steam on the Rapids forum. Instead of an Ice Pick/Axe/Tool an Antique Ski that would be engraved each year with the winning team's name.

Somebody over here needs to start a poll for the SLC fans. Right now the King of the Mountain name is running away with the vote in the Rapids forum, with people beling split between the Ice Axe on a plaque and the Antique Ski as a trophy.

I love the idea of the Antique Ski. Plays off of perhaps the oldest Utah/Colorado rivalry. A great idea.

But "King of the Mountain?" I can't say I'm a fan of that name.

I'm with you. We should just name the ski something cool and that will be the name of the rivalry prize.

I like the pick or a big cup better than a ski. A ski doesn't seem like a trophy to me.

Sorry to post this publicly but Jasonma I can't respond to your PM about setting up this thing. It says you do not or can't accept PMs. See if you can change that around and then PM me again or something.

RSL might have problems carrying an ice pick back on the plane though. That might raise some eyebrows.

True. What's wrong with a big golden cup? It just doesn't seem like much to be dancing around celebrating with an old ski. If that's what everyone wants then I'll be happy to go along with it, I'm just putting in my 2 cents.

A golden cup would be more visible from a distance (think: TV)

I'm not wild about the antique ski thing. Like Czar Pazzo, I won't make complaints if that's what everybody else chooses, but I'll complain now to make my voice heard. (Has anybody else heard of the "Spiral of Silence" theory of communicatin...?)

The ice pick thing is... weird... but okay. I like the traditional cup, too. But I'm open to options.

I agree. Get a cup, and engrave it with a ski and ice pick ;)

The Rapids fans (all 4 of them LOL) have asked me to find at least 3 more RSL fans that are interested in helping to organize the Cup/Derby for RSL and Rapids.

If you are interested, either reply here or email me.
