Billfish, I just didn't want a crown or sword or something Royal since their name is Royal. I like the ice pick/axe.

Yeah, let's get democratic about it so the RSC fans can voice their opinions too, but I think we have a winner with the King of the Mountain and the Ice Pick.

RSC fans, make your voices heard!!

Maybe the mascots could trade crowns to the winner. Rapidman could win a BurgerKing crown if we win, and the RSL mascot could win a crown of foam if they win. (That's if RSL has a mascot being that they're trying the soccer thing, not the NBA thing.)

While the ice pick would be cool ... how the hell are you going to get that into a stadium?

What about a ski ... where you paint the winner down the length of the ski each year ... get an old antique ski too!

That's my favorite -- although investing in engraving the name would be better than painting.

They got that big old axe into the stadium for the Stanford game that Bonji posted. Stick it on a plaque and get the clubs to endorse it (even write it up in the papers) but leave the possession of the actual plaque to the supporters clubs for each team. Let's hope the soccer matches the ideas that have surfaced thus far, creative and cool!!

 If it's mounted to a large plack, and if it has been talked up and advertised, and if the team management is aware and in approval of it, and if the stadium management has been notified, there shouldn't be any problem. You definitely wouldn't want to just show up at a game with an ice pick, but that's not what we're talking about.

And I'm still in favor of the ice pick and King of the Mountains.

I say an old tele ski, and we name the ski something cool and that will be the name of the prize for the rivalry. The ski rivalry between the states is already a big one, and basically the only publicized one. http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2000/12/25/focus1.html

The pre-existing rivalry will get our soccer rivalry started off.

I respectfully disagree. This is a football rivalry. This should have nothing to do with a skiing rivalry. I think we need to make it our own thing. In my opinion, the ice pick is something more generally symbolic of mountains.

A lot more people ski around here than ice climb.

I just wanted to thank all the Rapid fans who are inspiring SLC fans toward identity with a cup rivalry.

    Fan the flames of passion!

For me this has nothing to do with skiing. The trophy to me should just be a symbol of the rivalry between the two teams.

I don't like the idea of a ski. I want this badboy to be something NOT attached to another supposed rivalry. Hell, use a miner's pickaxe, a pinecone, a great big rock elmered onto a pine board.

For some reason I just can't get into a big ol ski being handed over, to me it seems ameteur.

I'm not voting for the ski based on the rivalry between Utah and CO skiing. I think it'd be cool to have an old, dark, 7' long ski with brass plaques fixed to it passed back and fourth for years to come. The substantial size would be cool. We'll also be able to talk about The Ski and who has it, who's getting it. It can be in the supporters section during the game being held up and people will notice it. I know you can make a large plaque with the axe like the Stanford/Cal axe, but in a way that has been done (I know, I suggested that link). Since the ski has been mentioned I like it better.

To each his own. I will be into it regardless of the trophy style.

If we go with King of the Mountains, as I hope, we could just have a crown, or painting or picture of a crown on the plack. Not as unusual, but easier to accomplish.

I don't want something that plays into the SLC logo, team theme of Royalty.

I think we need to find something "King"-less to avoid the royalty thing then. What would the ski be called - other than "Ski"?

I'm not as opposed to the King of the Mountain thing for some reason. However it could just be the Rocky Mountain Derby. The winner gets the "Ski." Or the "Axe."

I'm for that. Would still prefer a cup (or even shield) but I'm for it anyway it shakes out.

What are those ski races called where it's first one to the bottom of the mountain wins?
