Figure I'd start the thread for this one... Game is Saturday, 3 pm EST, at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. I worry a little about this one; we (the USA) only beat Cuba 1-0 last year, and we've been playing a little flat against teams we should be stomping. Here's a couple of links: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/us/news/2003/07/16/us_cuba/ http://www.soccer365.com/US_NEWS/National_Teams/page_91_54657.shtml
I'm a little nervous too, but I think the USA will use their previous poor performances as motivation for this game. Plus we gotta stick it to Fidel...
Beasley should be back & he'll make a HUGE difference in our attack. The BIG question is can we finish our opportunities?? I think we will. We've had four days' rest & should have our legs back. Plus, like kckicker23 says......we MUST stick it to Fidel. Imagine if this game was played in Miami, the kind of media attention that would accompany it!! WOW!! Considering how HATED Mr. Castro is in Cuban neighborhoods in Miami, I'm not so sure we wouldn't have a true home-field advantage. But, I'm HAPPY we don't have to find out!! USA 3 Cuba 0!! Goals by McBride, Donovan & Mathis.
I'm not sure the US has anything to worry about. This will be the Cubans third match in 6 days. They looked good on Monday and for the first half on Wednesday but by the second half they were dead on their feel. I think most MLS squads could whip them this Saturday. USA 4--Cuba 0 George
I say 2-0 for the US. Simply because I think Cuba will do the same thing they did last year packing in the box hoping for a draw. I do believe that our attack is better than last year especially with the way Beasley and McBride have been playing lately, but the string of 2-0 victories continues as the Cubans pack the box pretty well. McBride and Donovan assists from Ralston and the Beaz.
You got it. This score might be the only one I predict right (I failed to predict any scores correctly for group play). I'm not concerned if Beasley plays, and even if he doesn't I think the team should be able to come away with a victory. Besides a few wing players with terrific speed, Cuba seemed limited to me, and Costa Rica really exposed them. I think Canada was unlucky to lose that game, mainly because they couldn't finish worth a damn, and of course they came in expecting to win and did get outplayed in the second half. Anyway I expect a 2-0 win, hopefully the team can finally put together a great game. I don't think they've played terrific together since maybe January against Canada.
I think soccer is not very high on the White House priority list. No doubt in my mind that we will win so let's not worry about it.
Why do you want Arena fired? I noticed you live in New York so I figured I would let you know if you haven't seen the thread on it that the game tomorrow will not be shown on Univision. It will be on Telefutura in the New York and Miami areas.
I don't. I was just trying to make light of today's game. Obviously, I didn't succeed. I need to find a more lively audience, I guess.
Why because he made that one call against you guys in the Costa Rica game? Get over it!! Who can compare to that incompetent American referee's assistant who stood there and watched as the guatemala player who Lowe chest bumped went down clutching his face and did nothing How incompetent can you be? then again he made up for it in the end by calling the guatemala goalkeeper for leaving his line early. Quit bitching and get over a game that is long in the past Do you hear Jamaicans bitching about that phantom penalty in RFK when you guys escaped with a 1-1 tie? We got over it and moved on so I suggest you guys do the same and stop whining like little girls respect
I'm Colombian and no fan of the USMNT. I think he blows as do most of the CONCACAF refs. It's just that Pendergrast is right at the top of a long line of crappy CONCACAF refs.
No way to sugar coat that, Cuba is just plain bad. It could have been 15-0. Cuba might just have the worst goalie I've ever seen and he was one of their best players. Canada....how did you lose to Cuba?
FWIW it's worth, considering it's Cuba, I really liked their soccer. Their coach, Company, is doing a good job. I think Cuba will be force in the Caribbean if they continue in this form.
canada was worse in the month of July, they maight return at the panamerican games in santo Domingo (40 days from now) cuba needs more experience USA is above all concacaf Minows now, Including mexico and CR pendergast (?) is baddddd! chibcha is right!
