Well, Lewis will probably get the start and Beasley will come in in the second half. And this has been discussed exhaustively, but I really like how Spain lined up at Euro 2008: essentially a 4-1-3-2. This is how I would do it with our current personnel. .............Howard.............. Wynne..Gooch..Boca...Pearce ...............Edu................. Donovan...Adu......Beasley ......Cooper....Davies........ Altidore (at least for now) and Bradley the primary subs. But yeah, with Bob Bradley as our coach, that guy is pretty much spot on.
I like your proposed lineup... just goes to show we have the personnel to play some attractive soccer...
you're going on the road to play a wcq match... it's NOT about attractive soccer, but effective soccer... 5 dedicated attacking players on the road ain't gonna happen... YDS element just doesn't get it...
I don't understand the closing argument: If the task is that simple, isn't this exactly the type of game where we could bring in a guy for his initial WCQ experience? Also, I'm not worried about entertainment. I have issues with Bradley because: 1) I think there are players who give us a better chance to win now, and they aren't here. 2) I don't get the logic behind certain call-ups and exclusions. I fully expect us to get 3 points against Cuba with this roster. A more perverse way of looking at it is what's the absolute minimum amount of talent we need to obtain 3 points. I think our Copa America team from last summer could get the job done.
That's a yes and no with Bob Bradley. I feel like a lot of coaches would view this as a way to get new blood into the system, in a meaningful game, on the road. Whereas with Bob, he thinks, these guys will get the job done pretty okay. I'd personally prefer us putting out Howard, Boca, Onyewu and Donovan and having those be the only guys with significant caps on the field. Surround them with pearce bradley adu altidore cooper holden wynne etc... There's zero chance of us not making it out of this group, so why not try out a little razzle dazzle with cuba? Unfortunately, BB doesn't think that way. I feel Cuba is on par with Barbados, so really, the game is a wash.
US footballers (L to R) Oguchi Onyewu, Bradley DaMarcus and Edu Maurice joke during a training session on September 5, 2008 in Pedro Marrero stadium in Havana. The United States will face Cuba next September 6 for a FIFA World Cup South Africa-2010 Concacaf qualifier match. AFP PHOTO (Photo credit should read STR/AFP/Getty Images) Have you seen the changes these guys have gone through down there?!
They look like they're forming a little doowop group, Gooch on lead vocal. By the way, hilarious that I can't write doo ******.
Did we ever get a definition on YDS... Yank Defense Sucks Youth Doesn't Suck "You're Doomed, i Say" Your Dad's Soccer You Don't See You Dumb Sh!ts ???
I had to read that three times before seeing the ...not... I was so going to flame this post and that would have been sooooo embarrasing.
Let us preface that the USMNT is mediocre as is our leader BB. As you said Altidore, Adu, maybe Davies might make a difference (and of course the experience would be good for them and us). Other than those three, we've got what we got. I have no idea whether it will make a difference if Donovan starts in midfield or at forward, whether Dempsey starts or not, whether it's Lewis or Beasley (DMB I presume), Edu or Clark, but we'll be "good" enough to win handily against a struggling (in all ways) Cuba. This ain't baseball, boxing and volleyball.
How does SFS screw up a simple word like Sacrebleu?! C'est impossible! (should "I" be capped or non-capped?)
