So, another Colorado Rapids draft pick bites the dust. After seeing Cann play in scrimages I am impressed with his size but he needs some A-League time. It'd be great if the Rapids had an A-League affiliate they could just send these rookies to and have them back with one year professional experience elsewhere, but that is not relevant here.

I'm glad Delgado is signed. He and Rey looked great in the first Boulder/Rapids scrimage in Westminster. Hopefully he can make an impact and not break his foot.

Can anyone clarify, is Zizi waived or just out for the season for surgery. They way they talked about it, it seemed there were two players waived, but I don't think that was the case.

I don't think Zizi was waived, he's just on IR.

And despite others' comments, I thought Alberto looked pretty good vs. Metros....can't wait to see him and Rey Rey on the pitch together.

What I heard about Taylor was that Hanki told him he needed another season of development before he could play in MLS. Hanki suggested he go and play PDL so that next year he can come back to the Rapids' spring training.

Delgado is an absolute horse, who also links up well with his teammates and seems to "know soccer". That guy's going to help (and already did, last night) you guys a lot this year. Good catch.

Don't worry about Cann, he will play in Europe...and he will make a contribution...worry about your team because they are messed up. Hopefully you will get a new coach and that will help. And hope nobody on the defensive end gets hurt now that Cann is gone.

...because Cann consistently contributed so much to this team. Having trouble with your post UL - the guy did absolutely squat as a Rapid. Granted, our coach blows goats, but Cann didn't show anything in training or match play to warrant consideration.

Ya know, my first reaction is to agree, but then I think, hmmm, we could have said the same thing about Cila last week, no?

Yeah we never really saw Cann ... but why should we ... there's nothing wrong with our defense. As a matter of fact, you can make a case that we have the best defense in MLS.

And a BIG difference ... is Cann is going to be a SI next year.

He needs to contribute as much as Spencer or Powell. One problem this team always has is our SIs aren't much better than our Americans (Powell & Zizi) for example. Would Cann be better than any of our current crop of American defenders?

Bonji hate to spoil your fun, but it is not Cann...I am from Louisville and was keeping up with him because he is a good soccer player...but like they said, your defense was already good, so you don't tinker with it if it is working, so that is why Cann never got the opportunity to let any of you all see what he could really do.

I am disappointed that your coach never gave him an opportunity as a sub or anything...and if any injuries occur in your defense, he could have stepped in and not left a big gap in talent.

But it is apparent from keeping up with the Rapids because of Cann, there are problems on your team...especially with the coaching staff.

And for the other questions about cann, he wasn't named an NCAA Div. I All-American for nothing...all i am saying is you all never got to see him play, or if you had you might have another view on his loss.

ULsoccer ... keep us posted on where he ends up ... we like to track our former players. There's a thread on formers if you're interested and Cann is going to end up there as soon as he signs somewhere.

I can see that, but really the A-League is where he should be developing, not the PDL. Though again, if there's no A-League team in Mich., that's a consideration for a player slaving away in the trenches of pro soccer here.

I can't remember but he might also be taking some classes at Michigan to finish up his degree or something. I think PDL was the easiest for him to move into. Also, would the Rapids have to offically release him to get onto an A-league side? I guess since they never signed him, no. But it might not have worked to go to the A-League.

I am always sorry to see a player get cut before he even gets a chance to show his stuff on the actual field. The problem with us though isn't defensive. Hopefully by signing Delgado we get better offensively, and if to get better offensively you have to cut a defender who hasn't had a shot. . . well I think it is early but the Rapids might have made the right decision on this one.

It's a bit strange, but what I saw as Delgado's strength in practice the past couple months, we haven't gotten to see on the field.

He's got an absolute boomer of a shot, and I'll be interested to see if he can get himself into a position to use it.

So far, his biggest strength I've seen onfield is acting as a holding forward, as the rest of the team gets forward.

His biggest weakness has been a shocking inconsistency with his feet — sometimes great, sometimes as good as me (i.e. really bad).

He also picked up an annoying trait from Zizi, the ability to head a ball over the net no matter how good the service. Dang.

3rd game for Delgado coming up, he should have his legs and be ready to run hard and put on a good show.

    Cheers,

So it seems as if Delgado was signed as a "Replacement Player" for Roberts going to season-ending IR. For Martinez, COL needed to trade for him from Chicago since it seems the team was out of "discovery options" (I'm guessing 2 or 3 of Peguera, Castellanos, de la Torre used them up preseason). This time no trade for a discovery option (technically the player after being discovered by the other team since teams can't trade options) was mentioned. Educate me if I'm wrong but in past seasons didn't replacement players require a discovery option? (Juskowiak for MET last year?). Or did this involve only the need to pay for a transfer fee or create extra salary cap room with past moves? Will COL need to use some discovery or allocation next year to keep Delgado? Otherwise is this a new way around the limit on discovery players and can be used by teams to revamp rosters for the next season (though MLS probably wouldn't allow it) since teams are limited to 2-3 DISC per year and ?4 on the roster? Anyone with a better understanding, please help! Thanks.
