the new season starts in March 21 and CSL committe will publish new schedule soon!

Nike sign tean years' contract with CSL Business company as main kit sponsor, the sponsor price add to 200m USD for ten years, that is 20m a year, but actually the 2009 season CSL will only recieve 15m as Beijing Guo'an & Dalian Shide will wear Adidas, Tianjin Teda & Shaanxi Chanba will wear Mizuno, as their contract with those companies are not finished yet. form 2010 all CSl clubs will wear Nike.

as for TV braodcast, there will be 14 channels of 8 TV companies show CSL matchs, includs the back of CCTV, they are:

    Domestic
CCTV, includs CCTV5 (Sports Channel) and CCTV-5,
SMEG Group, includs Dragon TV and Shanghai Sports.
CSPN Company, includs Liaoning Sports, Shandong Sports,Hubei Sports, Xinjiang Sports,Jiangxi Sports & Neimeng Sports.
    BTV, BTV 6
    GDTV, Guangdong Sports

    Overseas
HK Cable TV - to Hongkong
    StarSports - to Southeast Asia

most of the channels can be found on P2P softwires so cheers for those who follow CSL through internet.

last season CCTV paid 6m CNY for CSL Braodcast, that is about 1m USD at that time. and the SMEG price is about 14m CNY a year I think.

I'm an American living in Yangzhou and I'm getting excited about the up coming CSL season. Nanjing and Shanghai are the closest cities, but I'm not sure which club I should support. I want to try and go to matches in both cities, but Nanjing is closer so I might go to more games there. I've heard Nanjing won't have a very big supporters group because it's a new team in the CSL. Shanghai has a solid supporters group so it seems like it could be more fun to support their team. So Nanjing or Shanghai.. or both. Which should I choose? :)

Shanghai, better stadium, better fans group, and whats more, It's a European style city.

Nanjing is also not a bad choice, especially for tour, old capital of China, famouse for beatiful girls and delicious foods. Fuzumiao - Confucian Temple, you must not forget to visit there

Probably worth checking out both Ironthumb although as you point out, Nanjing is easier to get to. I had an American mate who was going to Najing games for a while, although they were at a different stadium then. Jiangsu Shuntian have been in the Chinese second division for years and years, maybe their promotion will bring out the fans. Although I hear they will be playing in some new olympic stadium out of town. that doesnt sound like a recipie for a good crowd or atmosphere.

Shanghai Shenhua are well established and I am a member of their fans club. Good bunch of lads and they really love their football. Unfortunately Shenhua dont get as big crowds as they should, typically their 35,000 stadium is barely half full for most games but they do sell out from time to time.

Drop me a line if you are in Shanghai and fancy going to a game. Our good friend Greenlion will provide details of this coming seasons schedule soon, in the meantime there is a facebook group in english for shenhua fans which will have match details posted:

Has the CSL evolved in the past years? Or is it still the same old bullcrap where players rules over all and money instead of trophies is the main motivation??

the salary is lower than 2004 & 2005, only 1/5 to 1/3 of the standard at that time, and the quality of play had improved a lot, the standard of teams are close, usually 2 or 3 teams play for the champions.

Chinese football is nowhere near as bad as people (esp. the Chinese themselves) make it out to be. Last season was pretty exciting, the matches I goto have a good atmosphere and i have seen some great games of football watching Shenhua. Of course, I have seen some stinking games also - but that is the same anywhere in the world, even the top leagues in Europe.

I'd say football in China is moving in the right direction, if they can just focus more on grassroots and have less government interference in the leagues, it would be much better.

well for many outsiders we judge the league based on the national team since practically all of our players play domestically. So when you see China fail so miserably we automatically assume the domestic league is bad, that probably isnt the truth but thats how many sees it.

Good to know the CSL is getting better.

Hey, I'm an American living in Nanjing, planning on making it out to as many games as I can this season. The stadium (Olympic Stadium) is actually only a few years old and while it is outside of downtown, it's pretty easy to get to, being the last stop on the subway line. If you come via train you can take the subway from the train station to the stadium pretty easily. Although being that Nanjing was just promoted this year, my hopes aren't too high.... Never been to a game in China, but seems like it should be a good time. Though from your profile it seems you have already sided with Shanghai, let me know if you make it out this way for a game and want some company.

I've been to the Olympic Stadium before with some friends, so getting there is not problem. I'm going to the Shanghai-Sydney FC match tomorrow, but I'd also like to catch some matches in Nanjing. The city is closer to me so it's more convenient to watch games there. When I'm there for a match I'll drop you a line.
