This seems the time to "hook" any of our buddies that have been waiting for the "perfect" time to see the Earthquakes. If the Quakes do not have a huge crowd next Saturday night then the team and the area is in serious trouble. I think the crowd will be very big. How big? What do you say?

Here is an e-mail I sent out to friends and soccer fans here in San Francisco:

    Dear Soccer Afficianados,

For those of you who did not see the Earthquakes-Galaxy game
tonight, it was a beauty. Quality soccer played at a high pace all night
decided in the last minute by a horrible non-call by an official on a
obvious offside call (see tape). However, the Rose Bowl had 32, 874
fans in attendence and they got quite a show. Next week the Galaxy
travel to Spartan Stadium where I would expect the atmosphere to be as
intense as soccer gets in the good ole USA. Since I go to all the
games, I've seen some intense ones before and so the game will not be
unique to me (but still fun as can be!). If you have been waiting to go
to an Earthquake game, or an MLS game, and waiting for the perfect
situation, next Saturday would be it. The stadium will be packed
(although you will still be able to get a ticket ahead of time) and the
Quakes are in a must win situation. They are also undefeated at home
this season and playing their biggest rival. Are you getting the
idea??? Hope to see you there.

Good letter. Very smart plan. I know it might be plagerizium (sp?) but do you think that I can copy and past that and send it to people as well? Is that okay with you? I have the same goals as you do...lets get the biggest f-in crowd to spartan so that we can kick major buttay!

I think it's okay as long as you tell everyone it was written by mlsfan11. That would keep it from being plagiarism. (That's how it's spelled.)

    Re: Crowd Saturday? 15,000 + ?

During the telecast of last weekend's game Doyle and Schrader were mentioning that ticket sales were brisk so they were telling everyone to get their early.

15k is reasonable. 16k would be nice. In or around 20k would be very exceptional.

Ken the ticket guy told me tonight they're expecting around 17K.

Whether they get it.... But wouldn't that be nice!

17K would be a very respectable result. If this continues towards next year and the team stays intact and competitive the attendance would at the least be in 5 figures, with the average hovering around 14k or so.

As much as I can't stand the LA fans, I'm hoping they send in a good amount of people just to make it a full house of sorts. It's slowly starting to come around.

So why do the Earthquakes have such a hard time drawing fans?
Is it the stadium? I have never been to Spartan so I don't what it's like. I know it doesn't lend itself to beautiful soccer being played there, but...
The Rose Bowl has a huge pitch for soccer but the seats are cramped, parking is a bitch and the facilities are lackluster to say the least, yet the G's still draw at least 15,000 each night. And we haven't even won a cup.
There really isn't any reason to have an average under 10K. I am pretty sure you have a large youth soccer base up there, why don't the Quakes tap into that?
I honestly believe one more season below 10K and the Quakes go to San Diego, Seattle or somewhere else. I mean, even KC, who sucks, has a better attendance average than the Quakes.
    Explain that one...

According to the Mercy News (the article about RM) there have been over 17,000 tickets sold....if all attend this will get out average well over 10K

Wish I could get back over..... :(

All of this has been talked about over and over. You weren't paying attention. The youth soccer market is being worked on. All of Quakes management is aware of what you are talking about. Auf weidersehen. :raisedfinger:

Someday.....attendance smack will be exclusive to MLB but until then just remember, we are slowly growing our attendance and we draw on the road, 2nd only to the Fire. That does make a difference.

According to Quakes staff, pre-sale is around 20K for Saturday. All tarps are off and the upper deck will likely be open. The target appears to be 23-24k.

I'd asked the guys who work at Spartan and they told me that they are sold out in the lower section (including South End) they were asked to prepare for the upper deck.

I just started to worry, that I won't be able to get a ticket, even if I'll arrive several hours before the game ?

Alexi, I just happen to have an extra ticket in my section because my brother can't make the match. Send me a PM and I'll give you the details.

I was going to wait until Saturday to buy my extra tickets, but I just panicked while reading this and decided to get them now. Ticketmaster still has tickets available. I got my tickets in section N2, I couldn't find a way to specify N3 but I'll just smuggle my friends across the aisle into the Casbah.
