    The secret meeting in Novalja.:D

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novalja

Place: The mansion of Zlatko Dalic.

He invited his reliable players, called as the senators.

Luka Modrić, Ivan Perišić, Domagoj Vida, Mateo Kovačić and Šime Vrsaljko.

So, what could other players might think?

Kovacic was never in shape, until 2020.
    Vida was never good.
Vrsaljko will be sold in Atletico Madrid.

But these two create the team.:D

So, Ante Rebic just said what we all think and he became removed from the team.:D Democracy.

Talented young players must depend on them.:whistling:

Squad was called for the upcoming WC qualifying Games in Russia(away), Slovakia(away) and Slovenia(home).
Some surprises like no Vrsaljko and Petkovic. I am also surprised that Lovro Majer is on stand by and not called up to the full squad. Some of the older players IMO need to call it day. But it was nice to see that we are moving on from Badelj and Lovre Kalinic. The NT has passed both guys by IMO. Thank them for their service though. There are a couple(or 3) of other players i would not have called up but that is the case in every squad selection. And i have warmed up to the Ivan Nitko's idea that Erlic should be called to the NT. There will be some controversy because Borna Sosa was called up, but that was going to happen no matter when it happened.

Squad was called up for the games against Cyprus(away - Sept 8th) & Slovakia(home - Sept 11th). Kramaric is the only out and out striker called up. I would personally rather have Ante Budimir on the squad then Marko Livaja. Livaja showed little in the last set of qualifying matches. I was hoping Budimir would get called and would get a chance to start. DCC is not playing thus he did not get called. Rebic would be good for counter attacking football, but we don't play like that and Zlatko Dalic does not even know hot to incorporate that judging from what i have seen from him as a coach. And Rebic's criticism of Dalic has left him outside the squad.

Keepers: Dominik Livaković (Dinamo Zagreb), Ivica Ivušić (Osijek), Ivo Grbić (Lille).

Defense: Domagoj Vida (Bešiktaš), Dejan Lovren (Zenit), Borna Barišić (Glasgow Rangers), Josip Juranović (Celtic), Mile Škorić (Osijek), Filip Uremović (Rubin Kazan), Joško Gvardiol (RB Leipzig), Borna Sosa (Stuttgart), Josip Stanišić (Bayern).

Midfield: Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Mateo Kovačić (Chelsea), Marcelo Brozović (Inter), Mario Pašalić (Atalanta), Nikola Vlašić (West Ham), Luka Ivanušec (Dinamo Zagreb), Kristijan Jakić (Eintracht Frankfurt).

Forwards: Ivan Perišić (Inter), Andrej Kramarić (Hoffenheim), Josip Brekalo (Torino), Mislav Oršić (Dinamo Zagreb), Marko Livaja (Hajduk).

on Standy by: Duje Ćaleta-Car (Olimpique de Marseille), Ante Budimir (Osasuna), Antonio Mirko Čolak (Malmö), Simon Sluga (Luton Town), Kristijan Lovrić (Gorica), Nikola Moro (Dinamo Moskva).

The play has been noticeable better the last two games. Quicker passing and more chances created. I would leave Gvardiol at stopper he is the future there.

At least Dalic brings new names. Compared to usual stubborn decision making, where once good players must play.

Only if he removes Vida, Barisic, defense would be better. Slovakia had a lot of luck, wrong stadium also, filled with rain. During autumn, they should use Dalmatia, Istria or Kvarner, not continental parts like Slavonia: rainy, grass is slippery.

Nikola Moro isn't in focus. Nikola Vlasic has head in clouds since he left Russian league and joined West Ham.

Ante Rebic still punished. Silly, just because he said what we all think about Dalic, his "expert" sidekicks. Ivica Olic can't connect two normal sentences.:D

Not sure about Livaja, Orsic. They are in domestic league. Finally, no Petkovic around

Anyway, it would be silly to not qualify in Qatar. This would be the end of Dalic and his experts that they call strucni stozer.:ROFLMAO:

Zlatko Dalic called up the squad for Malta Nov 11, away, and Russia Nov 14, home.

My only take away is that our forward line looks pretty average nowadays. I think it will all go down to the final game against Russia. Need a win in that game to finish first in the group.

Vratari: Dominik Livaković (Dinamo), Simon Sluga (Luton Town), Ivo Grbić (Lille)

Obrambeni: Domagoj Vida (Bešiktaš), Dejan Lovren (Zenit), Borna Barišić (Glasgow Rangers), Duje Ćaleta-Car (Marseille), Josip Juranović (Celtic), Joško Gvardiol (Leipzig), Borna Sosa (Stuttgart), Marin Pongračić (Borussia Dortmund), Josip Stanišić (Bayern)

Vezni: Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Mateo Kovačić (Chelsea), Marcelo Brozović (Inter), Mario Pašalić (Atalanta), Nikola Vlašić (West Ham), Luka Ivanušec (Dinamo), Kristijan Jakić (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Napadači: Ivan Perišić (Inter), Andrej Kramarić (Hoffenheim), Josip Brekalo (Torino), Mislav Oršić (Dinamo), Marko Livaja (Hajduk)

Pretpozivi: Lovre Kalinić (Hajduk), Mile Škorić (Osijek), Filip Uremović (Rubin Kazan), Antonio Mirko Čolak (Malmo), Kristijan Lovrić (Gorica), Nikola Moro (Dinamo Moskva)

Dalic called up the Squad for the Nations League games in June against France, Denmark and Austria. Dejan Lovren is injured and not available for selection. The U21 members(Josip Šutalo, Josip Stanišić and Luka Sučić) will join the squad when their U21 responsibilities are over. Nice to see players like Musa and Erlić on this squad.

Vratari: Dominik Livaković (Dinamo), Ivica Ivušić (Osijek), Nediljko Labrović (Rijeka).

Braniči: Domagoj Vida (Bešiktaš), Šime Vrsaljko (Atletico Madrid), Borna Barišić (Glasgow Rangers), Duje Ćaleta-Car (Olimpique de Marseille), Josip Juranović (Celtic), Joško Gvardiol (RB Leipzig), Borna Sosa (Stuttgart), Marin Pongračić (Borussia Dortmund), Josip Stanišić (Bayern), Martin Erlić (Spezia), Josip Šutalo (Dinamo Zagreb).

I will throw the anchor, of my unrestless life...in gold shines mother Dalmatia, stormy sea carries me, every dawn is another pain, the wine is bitter...:p

Dalic squad called up for the 7th and 8th round of Euro 2024 Qualifying. The team has an away game to Latvia(Nov 18) and home to Armenia (Nov 21)

Vratari: Dominik Livaković, Ivica Ivušić, Nediljko Labrović

Braniči: Domagoj Vida, Josip Juranović, Joško Gvardiol, Borna Sosa, Josip Stanišić, Josip Šutalo, Martin Erlić, Marin Pongračić

Vezni: Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić, Marcelo Brozović, Mario Pašalić, Lovro Majer, Luka Ivanušec, Luka Sučić, Nikola Moro

Napadači: Andrej Kramarić, Bruno Petković, Marko Pjaca, Ante Budimir

Pretpozivi: Nikola Vlašić, Borna Barišić, Josip Brekalo, Dario Melnjak, Petar Musa, Dion Drena Beljo, Martin Baturina, Franjo Ivanović, Dominik Kotarski

Since the initial set of callups Kovacic, Petkovic, Juranovic and Sucic have been dropped due to fitness concerns. The latter too are still with the team, but not on the squad. Also Marko Pjaca is having some health issues.
IN their place, Baturna, Vlasic and Marco Pasalic(not on the standby list) have been called to the team.

Croatia beat Latvia away 0-2 in Riga, Latvia. Goal scorers were Lovro Majer and Andrey Kramaric.

Croatia qualified for the EURO 2024 with a win against Armenia @ home. Finishing second in the group behind Turkey and being in the 3rd pot for yesterdays Euro finals draw. We ended up drawing Spain, Italy and Albania from the pots. Playing Spain First on June 15, 2024, then against Albania on June 19, 204 and finally Italy on June 24th, 2024.

My thoughts are generally that this draw is about a tough as it could of been. And this squad nowadays it pretty average IMO. I think we will play to draw with both Italy and Spain and try to defeat Albania. At least that is the plan that i believe Dalic will employ. Not sure it can do much better nowadays. I am not sure right now if Perisic will really be available for the tournament as it is doubtful he will get any playing time the rest of the season at spurs. So his NT career may already be over. And that tournament will probably be the final matches for Modric, Vida and potentially Kramaric's NT careers. My early prediction is that we finish 3rd in this group. Not sure if we will make the group stage from this group. too hard to predict right now.

^you listed 27 players and you are only allowed to take 26 players. So theoretically one of the Keepers will get dropped, probably Kotarski. I also don't expect that Nikola Moro will be on the final squad. He has barely featured for Bologna in 2024. Maybe Dalic looks at another center forward then, but not sure who that 26th player would be right now. This is all assuming that UEFA approves the increase to 26 player squads.

Zlatko Dalic has called up his squad for Euro 2024 for Germany. He called up his 26 players and his standby players. Play Spain, Albania and Italy, in that order at Euros. With Friendlies against North Macedonia(June 3) and Portugal (June 8).

It is a good squad, but I feel the team is awfully thin at CDM.

Of course, Brozovic is always good, but I don't know if I trust he can last 90 minutes every game given his lifestyle and the fact that he plays in Saudi.

Obviously sucks that Moro and Basic stink at club level, and that Badejl retired.

But someone like Prsir or Bulat couldn't be considered?

  22. LordofTheFlies

    Dec 9, 2015
^Neither Prsir or Bulat would be considered options by me. Even though Bulat is good on set pieces. The only 3 DM's to look at for me are Darko Nejasmic(Osijek) and the 2 placed on the standby squad Kristijan Jakic(Augsburg) and Petar Lucic(Dinamo Zagreb). Jakic has been ignored since the WC by Dalic and Petar Sucic(cousin to Luka Sucic) is fairly new to the scene and has played fairly well for Dinamo as DM. He plays with lots of energy. I don't disagree with you that they should of taken another DM but none of these players have been called up this qualifying cycle so it was doubtful they were ever going to make this squad.
If you want to get into the weeds, this team in general is very average. And no one can expect much from this squad in terms of result, especially if we continue to start with these mids and forwards ; Kramaric, Mario Pasalic, Ivanusec/Perisic and Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic. Those starters will need to play slow boring games. holding onto the ball as long as it can. Trying not to concede because those starters will be greatly pressed to score from open play, at least against better teams. With those starters we are basically relying on set pieces to score, or that rare golazo's from 30 meters or the just as rare cross into the box, if Budimir happens to on the field and on the receiving end. There is no intricate play, no counter or transitional play. No one to run in behind or get into channels. Those starters will have to grind things out right now as this coach is not an offensive coach but good at setting up the team to not allows many goals in. And because it is a veteran team, especially through that midfield, they have done a good job of managing games and not letting many get out of reach. And we have some speed in the CB positions we should at least be competitive in one on one battles if balls go over the top. But don't expect us to play with high lines against better teams. I don't expect us to beat Italy or Spain. The best we can do is draw against both team, putting all our hopes into beating Albania to advance to the knockout stages.

I agree that against Italy and Spain, you will need to park the bus.

But I don’t agree that we shouldn’t expect to see transitional plays in those games, there’s a lot of great ball-playing options in that defence, and of course the midfield 3 in possession should be impeccable.

Where it lacks a little is in attack, I think the front 3 will be Perisic-Kramaric-Pasalic/Vlasic. But personally I would play Ivanusec-Kramaric-Pjaca/Marco Pasalic just for those games cuz you’re gonna need pace to catch the opposition on the fast break. It was a struggle against both Brazil and Spain.

In defence, at least from what I have seen, the defenders have played well in a low block, but for the fullbacks, dealing with Yamal & Williams or Chiesa & Orsolini, is not the same as dealing with Vinicius & Raphinha. From what I have seen, the Spanish and Italian duo are much better at close-range dribbling than the Brazilians. So whoever you start between Juranovic and Stanisic, you have to pray they have a good day. I would start Gvardiol as LB and probably Sutalo and Pongracic at CB.

The Euro's so far have been poor, i would say we have played a total of 25 good minutes in the group stage games against Spain and Albania. First losing to Spain 3-0 and then drawing with Albania 2-2. We go into the final group game needing a win to advance. This biggest question for me is who starts tomorrow. One of the papers has this as the starters,
Livakovic, Stanisic, Sutalo, Pongracic, Gvardiol, Modric, Brozovic, Kovacic, Mario Pasalic, Kramaric, Sucic.
I got no idea, but IMO Dalic will start Budimir, and Kramaric and Mario Pasalic will be on either side of Budimir. But it is all speculation till the lineups come out.
Italy play the ball better through that midfield then we do right now. as our midfield is struggling. Brozovic's is not in the right position enough of the time, causing issues in that midfield. Modric can't drive this team like he once did forcing Kovacic to push this team forward and then get back to defend. offensively we struggle but that was expected. As we don't have any plan how to create chances. We just pass the ball sideways alot, and backwards hoping for something to transpire. We have no transition and that has hurt us too. If we start Mario Paslic and Budimir, they will run onto the ball and give us a presence higher in the box, as opposed to all the players who are all comfortable with the ball at their feet and play outside the box. Tomorrow could be the final send off for this generation of players if we don't win. As Vida, Perisic, Modric, Kramaric and even Brozovic could be saying bye to the NT after these Euro finals.

Well that is that. What a way to go out. Last play of the game. Heart Breaking. Anyway this Euro is over. 1-1 tie with Italy and we are out. Thank you to all our veteran players you have done us proud over the years.Looking forward to the next installment of the Vatreni.
