What does that number even represent? It seems so arbitrary.

I disgaree with virtually all arguments you presented here in terms of Lewandowski vs Messi in 2020. It is not thought through at all imo. It also contradicts itself.

Of all people, you are saying this. Someone who so highly rates everything about Dutch football including Cruyff himself who would never put Lewandowski in the same breath as Messi 2020. "You cant compare a goalscorer to a footballer." Didnt he say something like this?

Also, your analysis weirdly stops with what youve presented so far. Why dont you continue adding perspectives like, you know, sofascore ratings that you have been so vocal about lately?

 

It can well be the importance for the results was about equal. There are trade-offs, pros and cons. There are things Messi doesn't do and is not so good at. Rakitic was a pretty good shooter and finisher himself, originally an attacking player and attacking midfielder as you know.

I'd doubt though that Rakitic is close to Messi for every season and.... he isn't. He isn't for 2018-19 or so.

Rakitić is never close to Messi. Not even eye-test of Messi's biggest haters would say that. It is proposterous to suggest otherwise making macro football's rating categorically non-sensical. There is no need to further entertain anything this statistic says.

Pretty good finisher Rakitić with 1 goal in la liga and 1 goal in ucl that season.

I suggest you just drop that argument rather than digging yourself deeper trying to justify it when there is clearly nothing to justify.

They tried to be clever with the way they evaluate performance and failed miserably so it has no merit. Therefore, using this statistic to conclude something about 2020 season is pointless.
