Yeah, it's true I think that Maradona was transitioning into being more of a pure playmaker around that time. It's also true that different players excel in dribbling in different respects. I think Stan Collymore will have more solo dribbling goals than Rui Costa, but for midfield dribbling and smoothly moving past players with the ball in that area Rui Costa would be the better of the two (to be fair actually playing as a midfielder helps with that, in contrast to the Ronaldo goalscoring example, but he would be in any case)
Who was a better footballer, R9 in 97/98 or CR in 06/07? Both were all timers in their position. CR played right midfield in a 442 with freedom to roam and R9 was a CF that could pop up anywhere on the pitch. Both were at their peaks in terms of all round ability at the time. R9 was more devastating, CR was more inventive. For reference, per opta criteria R9 97/98 34G 4A CR 06/07 23G 14A R9 and CR had legitimate claims to the ballon d'or yet both ultimately lost out. I think both are very similar seasons.
Cristiano Ronaldos best ever performance against Barcelona 2012/13 All from one single match The full array of his peak abilities on display here
Ronaldo Nazario does one move here against juventus 1997/98 that blows me away every single time I see it Even the Japanese commentator completely loses his shit 4:09 It’s a complete WTF moment like what did this guy just do!!! Imagine watching this live or better even in the stadium
R9's five career free-kick goals were all scored at Internazionale. An example of how he could grow in his career were it not for injuries. Until he was 22 years old, CR7 only had 3 free-kick goals in his career. In addition to his speed and acceleration, which he lost after his injuries, R9 was adding tools Mbappe has the same style as R9, sprints towards the goal, with change of direction, but with less tricks (flip flop, nutmegs etc) As for R9's injuries, many say it's due to the steroids he used as a teenager to increase his performance, which is why he injured himself at Inter.
There's nothing overly impressive there to be honest. I mean Ronaldo's two assists (his 1nd and 3rd) here are way more difficult passes.
A Friendly match of Ronaldo nazario vs a premier league match of cristiano Ronaldo facing champions league finalist Liverpool 2006/07? I don’t think it should work like that Those through balls you show are kind of normal though it wasn’t my intended purpose to show cristiano Ronaldos most technically difficult pass in that specific post If it were I would show something like this All from official matches btw...
R9 slalom and invasive dribbling were too much for any opponents to deal with even in a harsh time for attackers, too much ball control, skills, power, pace, agility and balance. Cristiano Ronaldo in his prime was a elite ball carrier too, but less of a good dribbler and had way less gravity while on the ball (not even peak dribbling Messi carried the same gravity on the ball as pre-injury R9 thats tell much of how alien R9 was), I rate R9 ball striking ahead of CR7, but it is close enough due to CR7's heading and long shot ability over R9 (R9 had good long shot ability too, but def not the best header). In terms of playmaking both were mediocre in their primes, R9 had better assist rate against compared/decent teams than CR7, CR7 a more accurate crosser. I rate R9 a bit ahead of CR7 considering his time, role and his teams, but overall in carrer CR7 is ahead of him because that R9 ended at semifinals of WC 98, so it is too short. Of course CR7 played in a better teams than R9 tho, so his level of showing is higher due to context, no United, Real or even Juventus version was as poor as that Barcelona and Inter, at least not in league context. R9 had the better NT ofc, but also he showed himself in this level too. Against big NTs and good Elo rated teams, R9 is only shy of Pelé in stats per 90, edging the ones of Zico, Neymar and Romário quite easily in fact. Prime for Prime I consider (consecutive season while not injured) R9 = 96-97, 97-98, (discontinued) , 02-03 CR7 = 09-10, 10-11, 11-12 I prefer R9 to be honest.
your first point is the only correct take, prime R9 has the advantage over prime CR7 in slalom dribbling/ direct dribbling in crowded areas, Other than that it’s more fiction than reality there’s no way R9 had better ball striking than prime CR7 the latter has a better weak foot, stronger shot power, more accurate inside the box, better distance shooter, better in the air (headers, acrobatic ect…) you name it. secondly prime CR7 2006-14 was never a mediocre playmaker he was a complete forward that could beat you in so many ways and you can’t equate playmaking to assist numbers (fact) let alone using random cherry picked ones (you could creat multiple clear cut goalscoring chances in a game and still walk away with 0 assists if your teammates aren't able to finish)
Top 10 big chances created by Cristiano Ronaldo for Karim Benzema in 2011/12 ‘Non assist’ big chances Barcelona 2011/12 Valencia 2011/12 Dynamo Zagreb 2011/12 Athletic Bilbao 2011/12 Sporting gijon 2011/12 Villarreal 2011/12 Malaga 2011/12 Osasuna 2011/12 Sporting gijon 2011/12 Real Zaragoza 2011/12 That’s 10 clear cut assists denied by one single teammate in one single season The finishing on these are diabolical to the point of almost criminal this is your average playmaker @PDG1978 @Isaías Silva Serafim @RamyBt @Sexy Beast @Al Gabiru @poetgooner @LaPulga22
According to @Decinitive on Twitter R9’s 1997/98 League Campaign: -30 full games / 2692 Minutes -24 Goals & 2 Assists -53 Key Passes (1.77 p 90) -20 BCC (0.67 p 90) -126 Successful Dribbles (4.21 p 90) - 99 Fouls Won (3.31 p 90)
Apparently not even the author of the publication is sure about this data. He uses the word "around" a lot for example.
Everyone would agree cristiano is an all time great..very comparable to gerdi muller actually.i would rank him top 12 all time slightly ahead of der bomber
Gerd Müller scored in a WC Final and in different UCL finals, in A WC semi AND in a EURO final. Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro couldn´t give me a single Goal Contribution in a WC KO stage and he played in 5 World Cup´s. And Eder won that Euro Final for him .
A random twitter account calculating successful dribbles when they don’t even know how dribbles are calculated in the first place is a fake news outlet These are the same fans who said R9 destroyed lazio 1998 with a dribbling master class in the UEFA Cup final It ended up being only 5 dribbles when stats bomb looked and someone in the exact same match completed 4
In 2010 opta(not a random twitter account)Calculated cristiano Ronaldo as having completed 4.87 dribbles per 90 in La Liga 2009/10 26 goals+7 assists 133 dribbles in 2465 minutes(4.87 per 90) 94 fouls won(3.38 fouls won per 90) 75 key passes (2.74 key passes per 90) People are biased here beyond repair An earlier opta calculation(from less then 4 weeks after the season ended) is 10x more authoritative then a random twitter account with 0 credentials This is 10x closer to being a fact then whatever lapulga posted but people don’t like cristiano Ronaldo here for personal reasons so cannot be objective at all
