    In 2007/08
    He dribbled more
    Crossed more
    Defended more
    Was a more accurate shooter
    Passed the ball more accurately
Was more clutch with his goals
And won roughly the same amount of MOTM awards

And remember the source for his Manchester United MOTM awards was media and not advanced algorithms.
If it was the other way round imagine how many more MOTM of the match awards he'd have in 2007/08 when he was the player who contributed the most offensively in the league

If we include match winning goals and assists
His goals and assists won 25 premier league points for Manchester United(30.86%) in the 2007/08 PL

In 2010/11 la liga his goals/assists won 24 points for Real Madrid(27.91%)

If we include all competitions that gap grows even bigger
    https://www.messivsronaldo.app/detailed-stats/points-contribution/

Another thing and this is clear as day
    Ronaldo CL 2007/08>>>>>>>>>CL 2010/11

Scored in every KO round except the SF vs Barcelona(even though he won a penalty that he missed)

And he completed around 4 dribbles per 90
A little less then 2006/07(which was boosted by double digit dribbling performances vs benfica and Roma)

If you compare Ronaldo vs Chelsea 2008 to his performance vs Barcelona 2011 its like night and day

In one match vs Chelsea he scored more goals, completed more dribbles, created more chances and was consequently fouled more times then he was in 2 semi final ties vs Barcelona

For a 22/23 year old to be considered the best player/golden boot of the best league in the world and the best player/golden boot of the champions league
being the go to guy and carrying the offensive burden of his team is something that cannot be surpassed lightly

    Overall
    2007/08 PL > 2010/11 la liga
    2010/11 copa del rey> 2007/08 Fa cup
    2007/08 CL>>2010/11 CL

To be fair, it would have been very difficult for anyone to look good against that Barcelona team in 2011.

The individual battle between those 2 was like something mythical from the iliad

A modern day Achilles vs hector with less gore but just as much determinedness to outdo the other

100-200 years from now it will be mythologized like this

"It was special and it was a duel that will remain forever as it went on for many years and it isn't easy to keep competing at the highest level for so long," Messi told Dazn Italia when asked about his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Competing head to head for so many years will be remembered forever. The sporting rivalry between us was very nice on a personal level. I think that the fans also enjoyed it, be they Madrid or Barca supporters, and those who just like football in general will also have enjoyed it."

    https://www.espn.co.uk/football/bar...si-ronaldo-rivalry-will-be-remembered-forever

Ronaldos talent, hard work and durability pushed Messi as far as any human possibly could but ultimately couldn't quite match and then sustain the best level of Messi

Messi in a league format was a footballing God
The most durable gifted player in the history of European top 5 leagues

Peak Cristiano was just half a step behind

I think Ronaldo's peak season was in 2011-12. He scored a ton of goals but still had the speed, dribbling, free kick ability. Just an all-around beast. Afterwards he sacrificed the creativity to become a poacher and before he just wasn't quite as refined.

How did a 36 year old poacher complete as many dribbles by himself as lewandowski and salah did combined?

    Just to be clear
Anyone who calls lewandowski a poacher doesn't know anything about football

Poaching goals/being a poacher are not one and the same thing

Something Barcelona fans who suffer from PTSD as a result of several brutal assaults by Bayern Munich cannot understand

I didn't mean Cristiano became a poacher in the absolute sense but he started being less of an all-around player and more of a in-the-box goalscorer i.e. more one-dimensional.

I think in 2011-12 he was at his peak because all the aspects of his game blended together into the most optimal player. I do think if Messi never exited, CR would get a lot more credit for that season.

    Poacher

    Not poacher

    The fact is in

    2007
    2012
    2014
    2017
    2020

    Maybe not even in 2025

His game never has resembled a poacher or a one dimensional player
Never been at any point since the start of his professional career

    Still though
Barcelona fans continuously and mercilessly killing others with their 'logic' and erroneous claims

I actually rewatched some of 2009-2011 Barcelona games, and yeah, CR7 of 07/08 would be reduced to the kind of performance 10/11 CR7 was.

It didn't matter how good he was on the ball. He would barely get any touch.

I think we sometimes attribute poor performances when really, it was a matter of being collectively outclassed. I think he suffered from similar fate in 2009, and even more so in 2011 (so did his former team Man Utd in the final).

Pre 2012 he was hit and miss in El classico matches
More miss if we're being perfectly honest about it

Hence the media propaganda that he struggled in 'big matches' even if by 24 years old he had already scored open play goals in multiple champion's league quarter finals(Roma 07 ,Roma 08 and Porto 09) champions League semi finals(milan 07 and Arsenal 09) and champions League final (Chelsea 08 )

I think some people struggle to evaluate him based on anything he did outside of la Liga
Lionel Messi is a la Liga/Barcelona legend (95% of his legacy)

Cristiano Ronaldo just played for real Madrid
It's a chapter in his career albeit a very important one but NOT the only one
his move to la Liga was earned on the back of being the protagonist behind 3 consecutive premier League titles and 2 back to back champions League finals
There is a history after the exploits in Spain aswell

    For the record
His best against Barcelona 09-11 was in the 2011 Copa del Rey final where he was MOTM

17~MOTM awards in the league and champions league

With Whoscored/Sofascores emphasis on dribbles, shots and key passes its very very likely he would've had upwards of (or at least) 20 MOTM awards in 2007/08

The highest he had at Real Madrid was in 2009/10(17 MOTM awards albeit he only played 35 matches)

    I'll leave my two cents.

Since most of his career is documented, I decided to put all his match highlight videos into playlists, ordered by season. Here's the result.

Personally, though I didn't see all the videos included there, I think that 2007-08 was CR7's best overall season.

    Not even close.

    Top-5 peaks in order:
    1. Pele
    2. Messi
    3. Maradona
    4. Cruyff
    5. R9

Also Ronaldinho, Platini, Zidane, Neymar, Puskas have a case over Cristiano.

How he can be in top-3? In this case who will be eliminated from top-3: Messi, Maradona or Pele?

    Dear deluded one

Eredivisie in Cruyffs time was not even a top major league and today would be a semi professional level(even less)

Honestly I don't care for total numbers(tractas thread) without knowing the history behind those numbers

Peak Cruyff was the biggest stat padder from all the ATG players i looked at

In the world cup(as I've already demonstrated) and in the Eredivisie as i will go on to demonstrate

    Johan Cruyff 1971/72 Eredivisie
    25 goals+20 assists in 32 matches

Johan Cruyff 1971/72 vs bottom half of the eredivisie

Eredivisie is a 18 team league so these were teams ranked between 10-18
    20230205_123647.JPG

    Vs MVV Maastricht
    1 goal+1 assist in 1 game

    Vs Telstar
    3 goals+1 assist in 2 games

    Vs FC Groningen
    3 goals+2 assists in 2 games

    Vs NAC
    1 goal+4 assists in 2 matches

    Vs DWS
    0 goals+1 assist in 2 matches

    Vs SBV Excelsior
    2 goals+0 assists in 1 match

    Vs FC Den Bosch
    3 goals+1 assist in 2 matches

    Vs FC Volendam
    1 goal+1 assist in 2 matches

    Vs Vitesse Arnhem
    5 goals+2 assists in 2 matches

    Overall
15 goals+13 assists vs bottom half teams

38% of his G/A production in 1971/72 came against top half teams

62% of his G/A production in 1971/72 came against bottom half teams

    https://www.transfermarkt.com/johan-cruyff/leistungsdaten/spieler/8021/saison/1971/wettbewerb/CL

1971/72 is widely considered to be his best season

    Cristiano Ronaldo la liga 2011/12
    46 goals+10 opta assists in 34 matches

    Vs top half teams
    26 goals+7 assists in 18 matches

59% of his G/A production came against top half teams

    Vs bottom half teams
    20 goals+5 assists in 20 matches

41% of his G/A production came against bottom half teams

    Cristiano Ronaldo la liga 2013/14
    31 goals+9 assists in 30 matches

    Vs Top half teams
    17 goals+5 assists in 15 matches

55% of his G/A production came against top half teams

    Vs Bottom half teams
    14 goals+4 assists In 15 matches

44% of his G/A production came against bottom half teams
    https://www.messivsronaldo.app/all-time-stats/vs-top-sides/

This in the number 1 ELO ranked league in Europe
Cruyff in the number 6 or 7 ranked league in Europe

Cruyff was a heavy statpadder of statistics and not just G/A end product either
He was a normal level player against every single opponent he faced in world cup 74 that was a competitive team(competitive with the Netherlands that is)

When he played east Germany, west Germany and Brazil(top 10 ELO) in 74
He was dribbling at the rate of Gerd muller and scoring at half the rate of Muller
The one you call a random guy or something LOL

    Re El pibe
Maradona had something like 0 non penalty goals in the UEFA Cup and 0 assists/0 goals vs top 4 teams in his first and best season in Italy (1984/85)

As a artistic player I prefer him to Cristiano though
So don't get your knickers In a twist

I asked you about top-3 peaks (Pele, Messi and Maradona), why do you talk about Cruyff? Which player of this 3 was worse than peak Cristina (if you had him top-3 peak like you said)?

I think there’s a very good argument that this period of time (i.e. 2014 calendar year) is the answer for when Ronaldo’s very peak was. It was during that early-Real-Madrid period where he actually was combining his peak-level of monstrous goalscoring while still being a major force in terms of dribbling and chance creation. And that year was probably his best of the those years, due to the Champions League success/output and the chance creation arguably being at its very best (beyond the evidence you just provided of that, it was also the calendar year with his most assists—with 20).

Validating this sense, that paper I posted in the other thread sees that as his peak, and actually sees him as having equaled (and actually, by my eye, very slightly overtaken for a moment) Messi in terms of value provided in that particular time. And that seems plausible to me. See below:

The main knock on Ronaldo for that 2014 year was that he didn’t really perform particularly well in the World Cup. But his World Cup was only a three-match sample size, so I don’t really put too much stock in that when defining when he was at his very best.

    Cristiano vs spain euro 2012:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
He only shines when the Super Team is by his side
The results of Ajax and Barcelona are clear with and without Cruyff, and you can't deny it by playing with statistics
Ronaldo is a system-dependent player and cannot be compared with players like Maradona, Cruyff, Di Stefano, Messi and Pele.
    You better understand this
Cruyff dropped because he was tired.(After the heavy season he had with Barca and made them champions after 14 years)
Those performances are better than Ronaldo's best national performances IM AFRAID
