He will be on the bench for Arsenal since Saliba is a stud but he must be good from the back if Arteta asked for him
Sounds like again, it's our FA that are a bunch of half assed clowns. They needed to make a real effort to get him closer to our team. I think hes gone personally, not the end of the world right now because we have a lot of center backs but well, it could be a shame if he ends up being a world class player
He won’t play in the World Cup if he decides for Spain he wants World Cup? will have to be Colombia but yeah our federation is lazy
So he's been really good for Arsenal so far getting rave reviews stepping in for Saliba with injury. I do think he would have a future with Spain, their coach is kind of weird with his selections and Cubarsi and Hujsen are clearly higher profile and better prospects, but I think as a pure defender marking 1v1 Mosquera might be better. Not sure he will be given a chance in time with them for this World Cup so we should put the full court press on but he does for sure have a bright future.
Even if he get's called we still have a chance to switch him due to FIFA rule changes. Unless he plays in the World Cup or Euro. Then he cannot officially switch.
I mean all the hope in the world isnt doing anything unless Lorenzo and federation reach out to him. Half the national team reaches out and be like dude.... our best CB is fking Davison Sanchez.... come walk into this team and win the World Cup in the US next summer or get booed every time you touch the ball or be called names being 5th choice off the bench for Spain at the WC
What do you want Lorenzo to do? Guarantee him a spot on the World Cup roster? That is kind of a slap in the face to all the CBs who worked hard for us and suffered through the pain of qualifying. Maybe he can talk to him and figure out his level of interest but it is ultimately up to Cristhian to fill out the paperwork to switch allegiances. And right now there is no indication he is interested.
And as has been discussed before, it is more than likely too late to have the paperwork processed for 2026.
No, I want Lorenzo to be talking about him to say I reached out and the player said he still thinking about it or said no he wants Spain. Topic is over. Or That I want him to fight for his spot at the World Cup. Not saying he going to walk into the team based on the team he plays on but our CBs suck. Lucumi was going to go start for a team that will be demoted this season. Mosquera might win his spot at Arsenal. WC is 9 months away... paper work won't get there in time? Again this is on the federation and the NT coach. This is a TOP TOP prospect for us. To just be doing nothing when the WC is a year away is fking foolish
It is a time crunch. He would need to train with the team and play in some friendlies. He would have to make an official preliminary roster list. Then make a list of 26 by late May. I mean, in theory it can happen if he fills out the paperwork soon and it only take 6 months like some USA players who switched but it is not likely or probable.
But their citizenship and their Eligibility were never in doubt. Just highly unlikely given the time table.
And as I said, I think it risks rubbing our players the wrong way in this case. Pekerman bringing in Carbonero was not really that controversial in the locker room.
We have competent CB's so it's not desperate, but he's a really good prospect and clearly would walk into our team on talent. You have to try to get that guy into your program, this is part of a national team, everyone needs to compete for their spot. There are certainly spots where its close or a new player shouldn't get picked, but his talent level is clear and he can also play fullback, it's a no brainer.
Obviously Lorenzo does not think he will make us win if he has not even talked to him these last couple seasons. As for the players who may get left off the roster because of him they won't be happy.
We have CBs who have committed to the process and shed blood, sweat and tears. Cristhian is a really good prospect but he knows very little to nothing of Colombian culture, the way things are done down there, the Federation, the team dynamic, etc. He is Spanish and has played in Spain his entire life. I would like for him to make up his mind and play for Colombia, but there is a very good chance this can be a negative if rushed. Can you imagine someone like Mina or Davinson being left off the roster because of this kid who has never played a minute for Colombia in his life? A kid who said he was Spanish and did not want to play for Colombia until he has no other option? It would be a slap in the face to those players as I have said in a previous post. It will split up fans and media members like no other controversy.
You prefer him or Mina ? Or Ditta? we all think Yerson Mosquera at wolves will be a starter at the World Cup…. But a guy at Arsenal isn’t needed? or a sub at juve will make the World Cup… maybe arsenals 3rd goalie who back up on our u20 can make the final list but let’s not fight for Mosquera?
I have never seen him play for Colombia. I have seen Mina. Ditta is not going to make the World Cup roster. I like what I have seen of Yerson a lot. Sub at Juve is not guaranteed to make the World Cup.
He's not just a good prospect, very good argument he's the best CB we have right now although Lucumi certainly makes a good argument, and he's very young and his ceiling is up with top CB's in the world. It's a competitive process, whenever you add a player someone misses out, he's Spanish and Colombian it doesn't really make a difference to me if he was born and raised in Spain, I'd imagine lots of people on this board live outside of Colombia but still identify with Colombia. If we want to win we need the best players available to us, the kid is very good, he speaks the language and I don't even care about what outside of the squad thinks, excluding players is always going to have a chance of upsetting a squad, that's on the manager to figure out how to handle it, all the stuff outside of it is noise.
Christian would be our best CB right away. He also has very good passing and play from the back skills. He would be a welcomed addition
