    Vanderlei Luxemburgo sacked from Cruzeiro

That's really strange news. Looks like it's some kind of relationship problems between him, the players and the Cruzeiro board.

    Wow.

This probably seriously hurts their chances to take the Libertadores.

    WOW.
And I thought the Alex deal was big news.

What surprises me the most is that he didn't even make it to the Brazilian championship.
I realize they are underacheiving in the Minerao championship, but they are winning their group in Libertadores.
Plus, they had some big additions to their lineup. Anyone who expected those guys to jell right away is a moron.

Looks to me like there are some hidden agendas in this move.

I dont see why they would sack him for performance just based on the Mineirão. It's probably some major conflict between him and the board. Before he took over, they almost went to the segundona, this will really hurt them bad.

    not good news

Cruzeiro is no longer Brazil's #1 contender for the Libertadores. Plain and simple.

Whatever peculiarities Luxemburgo had, he was and is a highly qualified coach. I do not believe Cruzeiro would have had all the success it had in 2003 without him. He is arguably Brazil's best coach. Scolari may be the best to motivate players and Parreira may have the best grasp of tactical systems, but Luxa as of late built pretty good teams.

I am pretty disappointed because I had high expectations for this team. I mean, they had two lopsided wins recently and they were doing well in the Libertadores--what was so tragic about drawing at home vs. Santos Laguna, they were still top in their group!

If the remaining squad doesn't get demoralized and if whoever replaces Luxa does a good job of keeping the team steady (I am imagining a Celso Roth type of guy, the coach who took Palmeiras to the 2001 Libertadores semifinals), then there may be hope. BUT... this team has lost a big chunk of its luster.

With Rivaldo gone.... man... no comment.

A mensagem é clara.

    What in de hell???

I am new to this Board & want to say what is up, from the streets of Cali4iaye. :D
Anyways, I like to believe that I know what is going on in the Brazilian Club scene, but obviously I missed something here. Why would you change your coach, after winning everything that you could the year before & have a good start in the Libertadores??? I figured that Cruziero would contend for the Libertadores title, but now I don't know. Is this a Boca plot or something??? Please someone hook me up w/ the detail of this. I guess I have to brush up on my portuguese :p
