Hey guys, it's been a while. Hopefully your all doing well from this crisis. It's been over 2 years since the attack at Alcochete which rocked SCP and its supporters for so long. The trial has finally come to an end with the verdicts read out today to all 44 defendants. Here's the summary/highlights (linked from reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SportingCP/comments/gs5oet/sentença_do_ataque_à_academia/): - There are nine defendants sentenced to five years with an effective sentence: former Juve Leo leader Fernando Mendes, Elton Camará (aka Aleluia), Getúlio Fernandes, Domingos Monteiro, Bruno Monteiro, Nuno Torres, Leandro Almeida, Pavlo Antochuk and Tiago Neves - Of the 44 defendants, 28 received a suspended sentence, nine effective five-year sentences, three were acquitted and four were fined. - the collective of judges, chaired by Sílvia Pires, acquitted all those accused of the crime of kidnapping and terrorism, since they had a definite target, without interfering with public peace. - former Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho was one of three acquitted of any charges, as was current Juve Leo leader Nuno Mendes, known as Mustafá, and the former Fan Liaison Officer (OLA) Bruno Jacinto.
I'm ok with everything that happened to BdC. As far as I'm concerned, he did it all to himself. Even if he was "proven innocent" the guys still an asshat who set Sporting back decades through his hate speech and I don't want him associated with this club. Also, the fact that Mustafa was let off is sketchy at best..
I doubt he'll come back, any decision to reverse his expulsion has to be voted on. And the old timers have most of the votes and don't like him.
If you say so. When BDC was here, he had a good squad, and challenged for the title. We played teams like Madrid and Barca all 90 minutes. Now we struggle against Famalicao. Say what you want about Bruno, but we won when he was there.
I just wish he left the drama behind. That's what killed him. Went on a campaign against everyone who talked bad about him and in the end he got hammered. Just needs to learn when to speak and when to be quiet.
Actually, we lost when he was here. We won when he left. He could've been a great president, but it's pretty clear he has a lot of mental issues and cant handle stress. He made some of the most petty, pathetic decisions when he was there, the pulling of players from Vitoria just because they beat us is one of my favourite examples. Also, hes the reason we struggle against Famalicao and if he were still here, the youth team would be mon existant. He did some great things no doubt, but for me at least the negatives far outweigh the positives.
Kinda related but not really: Jorge Jesus is apparently a lock to be Benfica's manager again. How we've come full circle in this thread. When this thread started he was our coach and now he's back at our rivals.
Yes, Barcelona made inquiries as I udnerstand from my contacts, but Benfica outbid them substantially.
Something similar to what we paid him I think. Only difference is they can afford it. They're swimming in money from the Felix sale still and wouldn't be surprised if they go on a shopping spree, maybe buy a couple Flamengo players.
Lol good one. You'd think they're swimming in money, and yet they are being investigated for money laundering and trying figure out how they've been hemorrhaging money over the last several years. Dont be fooled. They're not as loaded as you think.
Yet you know they will spend 20 mill on players while we're scraping the barrel to pay 3 or 4 mill for players. And lets not forget Porto whose bankrupt but manages to still splash millions too.
They spent $20 million on one player and had a failure season. The last $20 million player they had was another total flop.
Dunno whether I should open this back up for discussion, but here it goes. Anyone remember "Cashball"? The alleged corruption scandal that was revealed at pretty much the same time as the Alcochete incident happened? Turns out that everyone except the whistleblower himself was deemed innocent, with only the whistleblower going to trial. That's the 2 big cases now where BdC has been deemed innocent by the justice system. Alcochete and now Cashball. So where does this leave us? What's your opinion on him? Did he deserve to be expelled as a socio, or do you think he should be given another chance to become a socio again?
everyone will have their own opinions. That being said, whether you love him or hate him, he was wrongfully removed. According to the justice system, he's innocent. With that, at bare minimum, he should be allowed to be socio again. I don't think this current dictatorship administration will allow it cause they know that he has a massive following and know that ultimately socios have final say and anything can happen.
It’s black and white for me. Anyone who tries to destroy Sporting should not be allowed to be a socio.
I still don't trust this guy. I still believe he was behind the attacks. Let's not forget him bashing his own players on social media. He's the definition of unprofessional.
I hope you guys dont mind a none Sporting fan join the conversation. Lets not forget that the fact one wins a court procedure is Portugal does not necessarily mean you are innocent. All it means is that there was not enough inconclusive evidence to prosecute. Im not saying he is guilty or innocent. Just saying dont read too much in to a court procedure in Portugal
Exactly. BDC is still an egomaniacal sociopath. Just look at his current social media profiles and that's all you need to know. Not fit to president of this club.
