Valid point - probably not discussed enough.

I think Darwin is a square peg in a round hole in so much as the style of football we play under Slot so imo it makes sense to replace him with someone who would actually be a better fit.

I agree that this is indeed the season of change but for me I'd rather see perhaps a period of adjustment for the squad rather than a partially finished project where some players continue to look out of place and we struggle to find a balance in the squad.

So no half measures for me. Move on those assessed as expendable and bring in their replacements asap.

Yeah, I agree. Nunez is a busted flush, as far as I’m concerned. He’s had a lot of time, a lot of attention, a lot of understanding and he’s still only decent haphazardly. Almost as if by accident. I was a big fan, loved the Captain Chaos thing, but you just cannot rely on him. 1 on 1? He misses 10 for every 1 he scores. There’s always an excuse from his supporters (he needs to shoot immediately without thinking, etc.) but as was said about Errol Flynn, you can always depend upon Nunez to let you down. Hands up here ANYONE who thought he would score his penalty in the shootout versus PSG? This is the diamond in the rough we’re seeing, this is as good as it gets, this is who he is. He’s had his chance, he tried, but his time is done.

Yeah but a hell of a lot of the transfer market stars need to align in our favour, big time, for that to happen.

I'm sure Hughes has his targets both in selling and signing so we'll see.

I don't see too many big issues ,Sam. Nunez has to go but Diaz doesn't. He's still a useful player but if a big offer comes in I don't think we'd hesitate to sell.
So we need to sell and replace Darwin and with strikers being in high demand right now there will be buyers for him tho we may have to lower our pricing.

even if we can find a move for Darwin at a price we'd find acceptable (far from guaranteed imo) the market for top-level strikers to replace him is very very small. it seems like apart from the Isak rumours and the Hugo Palindrome rumours the cupboards are pretty bare.

and we also have a Quansah-shaped hole to address right now and a Konate-shaped big question mark to address very soon. our starting back 4 in a month or so could consist of Virgil and 3 newbies.

Few of us have the knowledge our scouting staff do. I would be stunned if we don't have a list for each position . I am not concerned in the slightest , Sam .

well of course we have lists - all teams have lists. the job is pure succession planning for every position.

and I have a lot of faith in our transfer lads - god knows they've earned it.

but having lists is not the same as getting people moved in and out. almost every deal - including those that look promising and "easy" - quickly becomes a Rubik's cube as the ripple-effect of clubs needing to backfill kicks in, with multiple clubs/players/agents etc combining to make lots of points of potential failure.

I'm sometimes surprised any deals get done :)

Our guys are very good, just look at the business so far. No matter what happens I can't see them leaving the squad short. Hughes / Edwards I don't concern myself with but guys like Trent , Konate(?) can make life difficult for them .

I’m wondering if the Jota tragedy sees Elliott staying with Nunez going regardless? IOW, Nunez has missed the last chance saloon, but someone’s just bought Harvey a drink.

Possibly I'd love to see Elliott stay tbh but we're still being linked with big money buys at striker , cb and winger so are we still flush or does the transfer kitty need a boost?

Much will depend on who we end up signing and for how much, I think.

Within squad replacement for Jota? I couldn’t see past Chiesa (the good Chiesa) for a while, but I now think Harvey also fits that bill. I can absolutely see Edwards going out and buying Jota, mark 2, but until and unless they do, I think the promotion from within is Chiesa or Elliott. If either has it.

Hope so, I think Harvey's good enough.

AFAIK Slot never played Harvey in any kind of striker role. however he did seem to get on the scoresheet regularly for the U21s so maybe he could succeed there for us.

that said, he's played his whole career not as a striker but as a right-sided forward / AM so he may well want to put his experience there to better use elsewhere.

the big squad decisions keep on coming ....

Newcastle have rekindled their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt's French forward Hugo Ekitike, 23, and hope to beat Liverpool to his signing. (Telegraph - subscription required)

Barcelona continue to work on deals for both Liverpool's Colombia winger Luis Diaz, 28, and Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford, 27, but will not rush to sign either player. (Marca - in Spanish)

Danns will get a look up top in preseason as will Ngumoha on the wing and Trey in mf . Can any show enough to stick? Wouldn't that be nice if one could.

love to see either of them make the squad but Danns is in a tough situation - coming off a non-trivial injury.

I can't recall any details but in Feb he was loaned (Sunderland I think?) but came back immediately for treatment. hasn't played since.

this season could be deja vu all over again for him unfortunately.

I don’t know why folks have such high hopes for Danns. I think he’ll be playing elsewhere.

Way too early for Rio to be a contributor, other than the odd league cup games.

Trey will play more and I’ve high hopes for him. Still a year or two away as well.

    Ok, just FYI:

AS and Marca are produced in Madrid, and are pro-Real Madrid outlets.

Sport and Mundo Deportivo are more pro-Barca outlets.

With respect to Diaz, Sport are reporting that Barça are walking away from a Diaz transfer. From what I've seen, it's been Marca and AS that are reporting that Barça are still in on Diaz.

So, take that for what its worth, when getting your rumors (or "rumours") out of Spain.

correcto, Khan. I think we're very aware that anything out of Spain needs a ton of salt applied, and that 99% of all transfer rumours are pure bullshit so letting them go in one eye and out the other is recommended.

Harvey needs to get stronger, he gets bullied off the ball a lot, putting us in bad situations.

Without question. Most "rumours" are unadulterated bullshit.

I just wanted to share which brands of bullshit are AS & Marca (madrid), and which brands of bullshit are Barça (Sport & Mundo Deportivo).

That way, we know which shit we are smelling when they foist it upon the world.

The agents of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, 22, have contacted Liverpool to gauge their interest in the Slovenia international following Arsenal's decision to focus instead on signing Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. (TBR Football)
