If Ibou walks then it'll will be upwards of 150m in lost revenue from player sales between him and Trent. Not acceptable or likely sustainable long term for the transfer budget .
I've always wondered why some player contracts have sell-on clauses, and some don't. In normal circumstances it's good for a high-potential young player to insist on such a clause when joining a club they regard as a stepping-stone since a bigger club can move for them easily. it kinda helps the owning club because they have a built-in minimum selling price which for smaller clubs can = a huge boost. but what if these clauses were made mandatory throughout the game (or just in Euro leagues* and the PL)? that would eliminate the Trent / RM (and potential Ibou / RM) situation and bring a lot more certainty to clubs' ability to plan. a buyer triggering the clause doesn't force a sale - the player must agree, for one thing. and I believe (not sure) that other clubs can bid higher than the sell-on fee in the contract. If that's correct it avoids owning clubs getting ripped off - it becomes business-as-usual bidding war. Thoughts? is there any merit in this? * In Spain sell-on clauses are standard already but the top-level teams there put huge values in, which kinda kills the intended affect I think. I don't know if the clauses are mandated in other Euro countries.
rumours that MC are after Kerkez. could be BS of course, but surely he'd be mad to go there - the overall 115/130 shadow, and the fact that Ped buys and discards defenders like kleenex tissues.
Nobody is paying in excess of the minimum. The player certainly isn't choosing the club based on what they paid his club. A 60m release clause for TAA wouldn't mean we potentially earn 85m in an 'auction.' Spain has minimums in their contracts. Several players have 1 billion minimums. Doesn't really help much, does it? And I fail to see how the TAA and Ibou situations would be helped by minimums in their contracts. We would still receive nothing from them moving at the expiration of their contracts.
Liverpool are leading the race to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez this summer, Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast. Liverpool are considering signing Xavi Simons, TEAMtalk understands, with the Merseyside club retaining an interest in the player as a £60m alternative to Florian Wirtz. There have been enquiries from Saudi Arabia for Liverpool trio Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Liverpool have their eyes on Jorrel Hato and now a move might be a bit more likely if Milos Kerkez cannot be convinced to move to the Mersey. Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Portuguese international Tomas Araujo from SL Benfica in the summer transfer window. Liverpool, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest in contention to sign Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche. Understand several Bundesliga clubs and teams from England are showing interest in Jarell Quansah. Liverpool have been encouraged in their pursuit of Rayan Cherki after the Lyon star, who has an £18m release clause in his contract, and on the weekend, it appeared as though he waved goodbye to supporters. Slot needs a rising star, and he might just find one in Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie, with the 23-year-old understood by Spanish sources to be the Premier League champions' favourite now that Huijsen's out of reach. Liverpool are among several clubs exploring a move for England international Eberechi Eze this summer, with the player having a £70m release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park. for a player with high potential - sure they would, club A triggers the release by bidding the minimum, club B makes a higher bid, and away we go. the owning club is not bound to the fixed price. never said they would. maybe maybe not - but that's not my point. a release clause makes it a lot less likely that he moves for nothing which is a huge part of the issue at hand. a player of his calibre will attract bidders knowing they have a chance to get him. true, but UEFA could put controls on that - there are a ton of sites/algorithms that put a putative transfer value on players ... use a function of that eg not to exceed x times the average, adjusted annually etc etc it wouldn't guarantee a fee exchanging hands if a player had his heart set on moving to eg RM. but it would allow other interested clubs to act and create a marketplace, putting pressure on RM to pay the fee. many players see the game as a job and could be swayed if a huge salary offer came in from an attractive club. all I'm doing is blue-skying on a way that could protect a club like us who basically raised Trent from a pup from losing him with zero comp. surely there's something better than just sitting and watching while players and clubs play these games.
Who would you replace him with? He had 13 prem goals and 5 assists this season. He is an important member of an attack that got 85 goals in the league (City are second with 70). Next season we are going to be without Salah due to the African cup Gapko being two years younger is the only reason I would choose him over Diaz, but with the likes of Chiesa, Darwin and possibly Jota not being trusted I'd only be selling Diaz if he was demanding to leave. I am so happy we kept Salah, but he still tends to have poor second halves to the season after an African world cup. Getting rid of our other consistent goal threat seems crazy to me.
not me. want to see it happen but the last couple of years we've all spent weeks being Bellingham'd, Zubimendi'd, Caicedo'd, Lavia'd - and others I can't remember - before having our high hopes pissed on. I'll just hope for the best and wait and see.
It does seem to have sprung somewhat out of nowhere. The conventional wisdom had it that it was Bayern, or failing that, City. City dropped out of the running and Bayern don’t seem to be flavor of the month anymore for whatever reason. Given the money involved, one would have thought that Chelsea had to be in the running, but I suspect their lack of stability (changeable managers, lunatic owner, lack of silverware) has informed minds. Liverpool, on the other hand, look to be a very attractive option. Stable club, good young manager, sane (if tight) owners, silverware, competing at the business end of most competitions and this will continue, it would appear. I can see why we would be on his dance card. Nothing may come of it, but it would be nice to see us win one of these high stakes horse auctions after a few high profile failures in recent seasons.
Sigh, time marches on and all that rot, but we'll be hard-pressed to ever have two more exciting outside backs than these two. https://www.liverpool.com/ Robertson's message to TAA... Andy Robertson has posted a message on social media paying tribute to Trent... and urging Liverpool fans to give the number 66 a good send-off this weekend. "My brother, where to even start!" he writes. "It has been an absolute privilege watching you grow from a boy to a man over these last 8 years. "You have won it all and created amazing memories along the way. I want to thank you for constantly pushing me to new limits and setting the bar so high that I had no choice but to follow. "You are going to be a huge miss around the training ground and an even bigger miss on the pitch. "I hope all the hard work you have put into this club, the moments you have given us and the massive contribution you have made are recognized as they should be..."
