With all of the reports saying the cash will be splashed, the close season is going to be sillier than ever I imagine.
For the price I can see why we'd be in for him as he's worth more than his release clause. However, Salah has been given less defensive duties this last season, which has seen him break records. With his age and the success of last season, Salah is going to need a far more defensive minded player behind him than Frimpong. If Frimpong is brought in as a rotation for both Salah and Bradley I can see that working from Liverpool's POV but not necessarily the player's. I'd not be shocked to see Xabi in for him in the next 12 months as I'm not convinced modern day Trent can work in Xabi's system.
Malick Fofana is a prominent name on the club’s wishlist. While his performances have caught the eye of several top European sides, Liverpool are said to be among the most determined to secure his signature. Fofana is under contract with Lyon until 2028, but as per the report, he could be available for around £40 million. Liverpool will return to Basque country this summer to make Athletic Club’s Mikel Jauregizar their top target, according to Anfield Watch.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Xabi tells the RM hierarchy that Trent doesn't fit into his plans and then they don't sign him.
At Real, it’s the president who signs players (which is as it ought to be, if one’s going to be honest) and the coach trains and improves them. Alonso will do as commanded by Perez.
football365 did a hierarchy of transfer destinations. Can't say that they're wrong. https://www.football365.com/news/tr...lure-new-signings-manchester-united-liverpool
putting PSG above us in 2nd spot reflects some recency bias given their great form this season. from a pure football perspective they need to build the perception that they can be consistent top-level winners. and (like with the NU and MC comments) let's just turn 2 blind eyes to the sportswashing, eh?) Man City - totally completely ignores the 115/130 charges. solid journalism there. Man Utd "can still compete with the best in the transfer market"???? these days they spend a fortune on unproven kids who they proceed to ruin, and every player they ship out instantly improves! the club is a top-to-bottom basket case and has only just escaped demotion this year because the PL has had 3 historically-atrocious teams below them. has the author been in a coma for a few years? as for us - wow, a whole 4 ********ing sentences! "not the sexiest option in the PL .... feel like the most sensible and stable." oh do piss off. nobody's won the PL more than us and only 2 have won the CL (European Cup) more.
F365 has a history of click-baiting using Liverpool as the lure. Man U and Everton fans then click in droves.
In the 2000's into the 2010's I used to read them religiously. Back then they were still click baiting but at least it felt like smart contrarian click baiting for a purpose. Finally lost me in the 2014-15 season. Would check in only to see 6 of the 8 primary headlines being about us when we were like 10th in the league, and having a crappy season. But the moment we actually went on a run and moved up the table we'd disappear. But heaven forbid we'd lose or just draw, we'd be back on the front page. I went there yesterday to read their take on Trent, honestly expecting to be triggered, and low and behold they didn't disappoint.
well F365 may want their readers to believe MU. "can still compete with the best in the transfer market", but this is the reality - today's bbc: Manchester United's players will be restricted to two free tickets each, with on-the-day travel to Bilbao, for next week's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. While United's squad have been told they can purchase up to 10 more tickets for the game against Spurs on 21 May at San Mames Stadium, they will also be responsible for organising how friends and relatives get in and out of the northern Spanish city. United say they are committed to ensuring as many tickets as possible from the club's official 15,000 allocation go to supporters. At the weekend it was revealed staff will not receive free tickets for the game as previously used to be the case. Instead a viewing party is being hosted in central Manchester. The decisions come after a series of cost-cutting measures at the club which have included redundancies and the removal of free lunches for staff. In addition, it has been established if United win, their intention is to celebrate by holding a barbeque at the club's Carrington training ground. Tottenham are yet to announce their plans in the event of victory but it is expected they will have a parade to show off the trophy. Newcastle held a parade in the city in March to mark their Carabao Cup triumph, while Liverpool are due to host one on 26 May following their Premier League title success.

🚨🔴 Liverpool are advancing in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong after contacts reported last week.Understand #LFC approached Bayer Leverkusen to discuss €35m release clause structure.Talks also underway on player side with Frimpong keen on joining Liverpool. pic.twitter.com/wzuXL5m3tJ— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 13, 2025
So Trent was the right back that could do things no other right back can do, but he caused some problems for the team defensively. We could have just replaced him with a conventional right back. We know City and Arsenal would have replaced him with a centerback. Instead we are going for Frimpong who is a right back that does things that no other right back can do. He might cause some problems defensively, but Slot knows that and wouldn’t be going for him if he didn’t have a specific plan for how to use him. I like this bold approach and am excited about what this player offers. It’s a bargain for a player who has been instrumental to Leverkusen’s success under Alonso.
Now it will be fascinating to see who we sign at left back. If the Kerketz links prove true, that means we are building a team that has pacy explosive fullbacks on both sides. Or will we instead sign someone like Hato who is a left back that one day may transition to centerback and give the team more balance? I think one of the main ways and manager can establish his style is through how his fullbacks play. Slot is being given the opportunity to sign exactly what he wants for both right and left back. We know that Arteta only signs centerbacks and converts them to fullbacks. I like that Liverpool is the team signing fullbacks who could be forwards.
I agree with all the potential problems of playing Frimpong in the same team as Salah. At the same time, given that Salah is our right winger and just signed a new contract, Slot must specifically like what Frimpong offers in the same team as Salah. Pace on the wings seems to very important in Slot teams, and Salah does not have the pace he once did, and will probably have even less by the end of his contract. Frimpong can provide the pace on the right. We might see Salah become more and more of a number 10 that plays on the right wing. Instead of Trent playing balls to get Salah in behind, we will see Salah playing balls to get Frimpong in behind. This might mean that we fully commit to the actual number 10 being someone like Szoboszlai who does Salah’s running for him. I would be surprised if we now also signed one of those number 10’s like Xavi Simmons, and think he’s now more likely we sign another number 6 who can play deep in the Gravenberch and Mac Allister roles. Okay, I’ll stop spamming the thread with posts now.
Frimpong is an absolute BALLER Xabi’s first name on the team sheet and with a reason. He’s an absolute bullet as far as pace is concerned and a total contrast to what TAA bought to the table. Yes he was hardly a RB for them more a RW -some times the most forward placed attacker and he’s going to make our attack even more difficult to read. Also he’s a way better defender than Trent ,better defensive IQ and positioning and can do a job with the absolute pace he has up and down . At 35 mil he’s a ********ing Steal. Pumped with this signing YNWA
Remember - we need to inject pace into the team in general - so this will help. There could even be an eye to moving him to the wing once Salah is done. in the interim - not sure how he and Bradley will be used. (presuming we sign him for real).
this is key I think. Mo can spot and deliver killer passes to team mates in / near the box - we've seen how world class he is at that many times. Got to believe the evolving role for him made up a key part of the renewal discussions. spamming? LOL don't be daft Suss - I always enjoy your posts even on the (pretty damn rare) occasions I don't agree 100%.
the obligatory and totally correct caution. for weeks last year the media had us 5 minutes away from signing Zubimendi. even if things are in fact going well for a Frimpong deal we know how quickly brick walls can pop up.
