Think you are wrong. Frimpong will be first in line to stand in for Salah during AFCON (assuming Bradley is available at RB). That versatility is partly what makes Frimpong a great signing for us.
Seems Slot agrees! Arne Slot praises Jeremie Frimpong’s versatility, says he can deputise for Mohamed Salah - The Athletic
I rely upon Romano for news and usually take him at his word. I like his work. But, and obviously personal taste, he always rubs me the wrong way when I hear him on the radio or see him on video. He should stick to the written word, because he is annoying af on audio/video.
You might be right. I just mean that (right now) it's an unknown quantity playing him there. He is undoubtedly worth the spot in any flowing move where he's already running/charging into spaces. But you could say the same about Andy Robertson or Lillian Thuram or Sergio Ramos (ugh-spit on that name) But not sure how he will do as a forward the rest of the time when he is waiting for the ball and then having to initiate from standstill into attacking creation plays....... That requires a particular mindset. maybe he'll be great at it. I hope so.
Don't necessarily need him to play "forward", and according to transfermarkt he's played "right midfield" like 130 times in the past 5 years.
Thought this might be s good place for this. Meet the guys and pronounce their names correctl https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1EGzi3LtHq/?mibextid=wwXIfr
The style of left back that Kerketz played on Sunday is probably not all that different than the role Guehi does for Palace as the left side of a back 3. Kerketz looked like he was forming a back 3 with Virgil and Konate. His runs were all to the inside, instead of going outside of Gakpo. Given that Guehi is known for being great on the ball, it’s not hard to imagine him playing in the same position that Kerketz did on Sunday. There could be a plan to at times play Konate, Virgil, and Guehi in the same team. It could be a solution to finding the attack to defense balance that we have been lacking a little bit in preseason. I’m even more excited about potentially signing Giovanni Leoni. I’ve been all over his You Tube videos and the kid looks full of potential. He is absolutely enormous, yet still athletic and composed. At only 18 he could be the next….nevermind, I won’t say it.
I would love to get both of them in and sell Joe or put him out to pasture. I think he's a good player but we just can rely on him to stay healthy. If we want to compete on multiple fronts, I think we need 4 CB we can stay reasonably healthy
So today’s interwebs have the following absolutely true facts: 1. £30m for Guehi with £5-7m in achievable add ons 2. Newcastle will do business on Isak but don’t want to conclude the deal that allows him to play for us against them in second game of the season. So after that. Actually both of these seem rather believable.
Another reason for keeping him might be Leoni. His parents will know Fed will be here and can help look after him, if he signs.
Getting Guehi in for less than we sold Quansah for is great business. Liverpool seem to playing along and helping Newcastle save face on the Isak situation. Let them get a replacement first. Wait till after our visit to St James Park. The danger of that is all it takes is their crazy owner to pull the plug on whatever was agreed upon, and then we don’t have enough forwards.
Plus isak isn't going to match fit now - unfortunately - for several weeks so he'd miss that game anyway.
Random article about this kid Leoni. https://thecalcioblog.com/2025/08/13/giovanni-leoni-what-can-liverpool-expect/
There are rumors, but bear in mind, it’s the interwebs, but rumors that he’s on his way to Merseyside for a medical with personal terms sorted and a fee sufficiently agreed that a medical has been green lit. Rumors.
Those Leoni rumors heating up. 🚨🧨 BREAKING | Understand Liverpool have reached a full verbal agreement with Giovanni #Leoni! The super-talented 18 y/o centre-back wants to join Liverpool with immediate effect. Sign 2 more CBs????? That means we have been told Konate isn't renewing.... Or we are really getting our ducks in a row for life after VVD
Could be preparing for both scenario's. Either way even if Ibou stays I would think Joe Gomez probably won't be with us too much longer after this season . g
I had to read that twice, too. I think it's both future-proofing van Dijk and that Konaté, PR stuff notwithstanding, is off in the summer.
No, I’m going with Speker here. It’s forward planning. Strengthens our hand with Konate, strengthens our hand for life after VVD all the while keeping everyone onside with playing time except maybe Gomez. And even then, he’s a Swiss Army defender.
