Not much new, but seemingly a summary of the "press briefing" yesterday:

    - Jimbo says McBride deal not finalized

    - Lagos, Elliott and Fraser announcements

Fraser, 37, brings another established presence to the club..."I can still play quite a bit," Fraser said. "There’s a good core of players, a group of exciting players. One of the reasons they looked in my direction is for my leadership and experience."

(I know this will sound crabby, but do we now have all the "veteran leadership" we didn't have before with Clark, Mais, Hejduk, Paule and McBride? Hell, any more "leadership" and the chiefs will outnumber the indians. Any more effin' "leadership" on this team and every player will have his own personal leader. Sort of a Big Brother program.)

And finally some confirmation of stuff we all guessed anyway:

Midfielder Brian West could be headed to Fredrikstad in Norway which we'd know more about if that lazyass Splarg would hump his butt over to some Norway sites and decipher the gibberish for us. . . .

Midfielder Freddy Garcia might return to Guatemala on a transfer which is good because he doesn't have a job here anymore. . . .

Defender Eric Denton is still unsigned and I want to know why; is he dumb enough to be holding out for more money based on his sterling play last season? or is the Crew not making offers?. . . .

The SuperDraft is Friday in Charlotte, N.C. The Crew has the second pick and, barring a trade, is expected to choose Stanford defender Chad Marshall so they must now be admitting it, which is nice of them

The one from demokraten.no seems to be more recent - from a few days ago. I don't really speak Norwegian, but here's a brief synopsis:

It's an article about Brian's trial with the club. Starts off with some quotes from him saying how it's a dream for American soccer players to play in Europe. Apparently his agent heard that FFK's coach, Eggen, was a good coach. It then talks about how fast he is. West then gives a quote about his practice with the team. Something like "I've never played on such a field before. I like it, though. I have better skills then I was displaying, though." He goes on to say that he can bring speed and agression to FFK. The next bit escapes me, but they ask him what he likes best and he says "Laget", naturally. I'm guessing that is "forward" in Norwegian? It then says he doesn't have a contract yet. West gives a quote about how he likes training with the team and hopes they like him. It says that he should have no worries, the coach likes him. The coach gives a couple of quotes about West being a good player, with alot of ability. I think he says that West could play both on the wing or at forward. It goes on to say that West has fit in very well with the other players, and finishes up with a quote from the coach when asked about whether they will sign him. "I believe we are able to begin negotiations". He is then asked about other new players and says something like they have a couple in every day.

In all, it sounds like they are hoping to sign Brian. Hopefully Splarg can get off his butt and give you a better translation. ;)

Brian played the first 45 minutes in a friendly on Sunday. They won 7-2 and he left with the team ahead 2-1. They had some info about him later in the match info. This comes from the same link that Bill provided (the recent one) and then following the scoreline towards the right of the screen near the current standings.

The translator I used says, "We are confident that West would be a good acquisition for them (per Harry Hansen). Brian departed for Germany the next day for a test match there and they were going to discuss what offer to give him. They have already discussed some of these facts with his agent. Brian is a good player and looked good in training last week."

My Norwegian is pretty good ;)

and it looks like if Finnish and Dutch had a baby where the mother smoked crack thoughout the whole pregnancy.

also, "Laget" as mentioned about would mean "the team"

Han liker Fredrikstad veldig godt og kunne godt tenke seg å flytte hit. På spørsmål om hva Brian liker best i Fredrikstad er han ikke i tvil.

    – Laget, selvfølgelig!

He likes Fredrikstad very much and could imagine going there. On the question of what Brian likes best in Fredrikstad

    - The Club, of course!

Ahh.... That makes more sense to me. I thought Fredrikstad was the name of the team and they were asking him what he liked playing the best... My Norwegian is pretty bad. ;) Thanks, Captain.
