We kicked the ball back and forth, Schelotto did his best Thierry Henry impersonation, game over. Who's next?
Pontius and Santino also glared at each other a lot for missing chances, Jaime should continue his drumming lessons, and my wife and I were amazed that Troy stopped the PK.
I'm fairly certain that was Perkins' second all-time PK stop. His first that was not taken by a former teammate he's seen in training. But I have no idea if he stopped any in Norway.
Absolutely amazing that the replays show Vaughn having a clear line of site to the hand ball and misses it. Was it me or was Jakovic playing like he didn't give a damn? Is he that out of shape? He should have gotten to that ball instead of waiting for Troy.
Given the vehemence of Vaughn's gesture indicating the goal counted, I really think he awarded it out of spite. I think it demonstrates sufficient bias against DC (especially coupled with the crap PK call in the closing minutes of the game awarded to a team up 2-0) that he deserves a public flogging before being slathered in antelope blood and tossed to a ravenous pack of lions. I mean, that IS the penalty, right? Granted, the point is moot if we score on a few of our dozen chances in the first half.
I dunno about that...Then you'll just have two MORE dumb guys on the pitch. Adding two more Keystone Kops does not necessarily improve the performance of the Keystone Kops. I think with 6 officials on the field, you'll come away with 9 different interpretations of an event.
In one of his first games in 2004, he stopped a Twellman PK at Foxboro and we held our 1-0 lead to the end. And I think there's a save against DeRosario in early '07, but Houston scored on the ensuing corner, so he may as well have just let the PK go in. Depressing Realization From Crew Game: Chris Pontius is not a finisher.
Well out of all the ways we've been scored on this year... we were happily surprised that Troy blocked the PK. Made me think of Nicky. When Nicky retires, I want to know his secret to PKs (that he eluded to at end of MLS Cup last year), he'll probably sell it for $49.95 on FSC, like Nationally Ranked and whatever Twellman was selling (hair gel or shoe lifts, I forget) bleh - striker search continues...
. . . Yet. . . . I'm clinging to hope that he'll start hitting those great strikes that he shows us every now-and-then more often.
Pontius is indeed not a finisher, or at least at this point. He's good at crossing from the wings but without someone to connect to, its all for naught.
It's a bit odd that he can strike a ball so cleanly most of the time, yet not on target, most of the time. A rare feat of skill.
