I just don't think they release them until they sold enough in other sections. I would imagine the people sitting in the west stand would be STH and corp sales. I hope I'm wrong but that's what I think. I'll go with an announced attendance of 15, 800
Keep in mind that, for fans looking for another game to go to after the spring game, the Crew game is a far better option than the Clipper opener. The stadium is closer to OSU and there's more time to get there. Even with the rescheduled start downtown, making the Clippers game would be a banzai run from the Spring Game. My original plan was to go to the Clippers opener and see the crew play Philadelphia, but I realized that I may not make first pitch of the Clippers while making Crew kickoff would be no problem, so I flipped what team I'm going to see each weekend (Crew/Orlando tomorrow, Clippers/Louisville next weekend).
Y'all really think that many people will go to both the Spring Game and the Crew game? I hope so-I'd love to see a big crowd. Maybe I'm just getting old; I'd think after 3+hours in the sun, people wouldn't go to the Crew game. Seems like the Powers That Be would try to not have a home game on the day of the Throwball Spring Game--this being Buckeye country and all...
That's not how it seems to work this year. They don't list every single available ticket on ticketmaster, they usually just try to keep 2000-3000 available on ticketmaster at any given time, and hold the rest in reserve. (They usually dump an extra thousand or so onto ticketmaster a day or two before the game.) The Crew seem to be saving the upper west as the final sections in the stadium to sell, they sell everything else first. (Though they did sell large portions of the upper west via group sales last year. The tickets never showed up on ticketmaster at all, and then it was packed on gameday. Hopefully that will happen for a few more games this year.) Ticket sales actually do look pretty decent for this game, I'll guess somewhere in the 16500-17500 range. At the very least it will be a far better crowd than our previous home game.
To me, it seems stupid to sell the upper deck tickets facing into the sun first. I usually buy upper west, but it sounds like they are now being sold as single tickets only if everything else is sold out.
I picked up tickets today at the box office in section 206. That's upper deck, dead center. I can't imagine there's going to be 15K or more of those seats were available at noon.
If I were a casual fan, and all I could buy online from TicketBastard were east side seats facing the sun, and when I got to the game I saw blotches of empty seats on the upper west side, I'd be pretty honked off. Might affect the decision of some folks whether or not to go to another Crew game. That and $15 to park in the grass and walk a longer distance than the $15 I'd pay to park for a Jackets game and walk a shorter distance through a covered garage, but that was in another thread. Customer experience and all...
So buy seats for the east stand and go to the west. No one will care. And you're gonna complain about the walk from the parking lot? Seriously? I know it's 3-4 minutes of your life that you'll never get back, but come on.
Dude, I don't care about the walk. I save the $15 and park off of 4th St. And I don't always sit in the same section where my tickets are. If you read my post carefully, I was talking about the casual fan. Isn't that what it's all about--drawing a wider fan base, giving them a good experience so they come back? Come on.
Jeez. These Orlando fans are arrogant bastards. He needs a good shoeing for using the word pitch as well. http://www.themaneland.com/2015/4/17/8436835/orlando-city-vs-columbus-crew-match-preview
I think it's safe bet that Tony Aces isn't exactly batting one thousand. Sure, he's a great owner (so far) and an awesome overall guy, but he definitely still has a lot to learn.
