Columbus Crew Stadium Wednesday August 15 7:00pm The Galaxy play the Superclassico against Chivas on Sunday night, while the Crew will be recovering from something even more emotionally draining. On top of that, August 15 is also an international date, but as of the time of this posting, no players from either team have been called up yet. Landon Donovan almost certainly will be though. Wear black.
Haven't we traditionally worn black jerseys during these "blackout" games? Since that isn't an option this year, it seems like the logical choice would be LA in blue and us in yellow. The game is on NBCSN, which means that kickoff won't be until 7:15 or later, since NBCSN likes to show the pregame festivities. National Anthem performance by 2011 X Factor USA runner-up and Columbus native Josh Krajcik. Official Crew post-game party at Barley's in the Short North, where several players and other team personalities could show up.
If Mexico is actually going to play the US in a friendly AT AZTECA, the smart thing to do is to take the players that will most likely be going down there next year battling for the points. I'd be amazed if Donovan wasn't down there.
Exactly. Get those A-list players reminded of the environment when the score doesn't matter, which I'm sure was the point of scheduling a friendly down there. In other words...Agreed.
With an overnight low of 59 and cloudy/rainy weather expected, maybe Robert will have that black jacket.

Beck is probably helping the last of the Dutch field hockey team move out of the Olympic village. He was going to make it but he forgot the Concorde does not fly anymore. C'est La Vie!
Watching the SuperClassico right now, and those dark kits of theirs are almost freaking black. If they get to wear those here, it will make "blackout" seem silly. Classy though that they are wearing Kirk Urso 15 armbands. Edit: I've seen the armbands on a couple of LA Galaxy players but I dont see the Chivas players wearing them...
They call it the dark blue "Punjab". Trying to get at the Indian fans? I don't know but they do look sharp. I didn't notice the armbands and as far as I know there was no moment of silence or anything. It was officially a Chivas home game so most of what was said was in Spanish so I could have missed it.
Lots of optimism with all those one-goal win predictions. What makes you people think we can score one goal?
Is he even in Columbus and practicing with the team? I havnt read anything about him since he was signed.
Twould be nice, but I expect it to take a bit for him to get his work permit and to get in game shape with this team. I haven't heard on way or the other--and not having the Dogpatch access hasn't helped. But not having the TFC game might have speeded up the process.
Last I heard was that he was supposed to get his paperwork last Wednesday, but when he went to the embassy, they didn't have him in the system. The Crew had a flight set up for him on Friday, and they were planning on keeping that scheduled. Never heard if he was actually on that flight though.
The Crew will be physically if not emotionally rested. I am concerned that each player will handle the emotional pressure differently and some not well. There will be some that will be numb and some that will be amped. This will lead to a disjointed attack and defense which might make for an interesting game. LA will be without Donovan and probably Beckham. They will still have enough firepower to score and defend. They won big last night but will only have 3 days rest. I think he is going to play Houston with a counter attack like in SJ and Seattle. He is going to use Renteria and Meram then. I am guessing that Warzycha is going for the win more so here than in Houston. Andy Miranda- Marshall-Mendes-Williams Birchall - Grossman Gaven - Mirosevic -Duka Arrieta My guess a very emotional sloppy 2-2 tie.
So, in 6 years in the league, 6 home matches at Crew Stadium, we get Beckham ONCE? I'm a season ticket holder, and as such, he's certainly not my main attraction, but this is a big "Eff You" from Becks and the Gals as far as I am concerned. How else are we supposed to attract all the little kiddies who will only wear Beckham jerseys?
This is funny in one regard. A buddy of mine procured tickets to the match for one of his acquaintances here at work. After reserving them, she says something along the lines of "Can we cheer for Beckham?" To which he said, "No!" Now that Mr. Posh Spice won't be here, I made sure to tell him not to tell her a damn thing so that she'll go, and then live through the disappointment of 90 minutes sans GoldenBalls. ---- Another plus is that Donovan won't be subbed on in Columbus and cheered but Columbus fans like he was in last year's debacle... disgraceful.
