Game on MLSnet.com for those of us who can't be there. Matchtracker starters: F*RE 13 - Henry Ring (GK) 3 - Evan Whitfield 5 - Jim Curtin 6 - Kelly Gray 7 - DaMarcus Beasley 8 - Damani Ralph 9 - Ante Razov 12 - Logan Pause 14 - Chris Armas 16 - Andy Williams 21 - Justin Mapp CREW 1 - Jon Busch (GK) 4 - Robin Fraser 6 - Eric Denton 7 - Simon Elliott 8 - Duncan Oughton 11 - Jeff Cunningham 12 - Edson Buddle 16 - Ross Paule 18 - Nelson Akwari 19 - Chris Wingert 21 - Kyle Martino The telecast showed Denton in the center of defense, Fraser out left. Wingert playing in left midfield. Crowd looks somewhat small.
Announcer: "Greg Andrulis telling us he would very much like to be dangerous early to blunt the quickness of the F*re attack" Our coach is a genius...
Can't seem to figure this one out. He's not even on the subs bench. MLSnet.com doesn't have him listed as injured or suspended. 10' Martino fouled. Elliot short pass to Oughton who skies the ball into the bleachers. Wasted opportunity.
Denton playing a little inspired today. Sorry to those of you reading (if there are any), I have to go.
if any of you were relying on this, i'm taking this right off of MLSNet and it would appear you've completely dominated the first half, rewarded by '43 and '44 minute goals by Buddle and Cunningham, assisted by Paule and Martino respectively...curious where chad marshall is though..
Halftime for the match and stay-at-home-Fred (hosting a party for 16 and 17 year olds, and I feel like a particularly dirty old man tonight; did girls really look like this when I was that age?) HALFTIME: CBus CREW 2 Sh!tcago ButtBoys A BIG FVCKING GOOSE EGG No one, and I mean no one, has been harder on this team over the last two or three years, so I feel very much obliged at this juncture to say that if there has been a more complete butt-kicking, in-your-face, "I had your skanky Momma last night and here's the five bucks I owe her" COMPLETE DOMINATION of one MLS team over another I don't remember when it was. From the opening whistle the Crew has simply taken it to these wads of dirt. A superb half of soccer. Unbelieveable. Chris Wingert has JUST FOOKING OWNED BEASLEY. He's treated him like a geeky kid with lunch money. Buddle and Cunny have been all over the vaunted F*re defense, which is lucky we're not winning by 10, while Ralph and Razov have done nothing very well except get called offside 419 times. They look like rank amateur idiots. I can't believe that we can play two halves this well in one game. It's never happened before in the annals of human history. But that's OK - I have seen it with my own eyes. Go Crew.
Wingert is playing out of his mind. Easily the best half of soccer this year for the boys. I honestly enjoyed watching them for once.
So I just got back from dinner to turn this on and find to my surprise a 2-0 Crew lead. Then I get to see St. Dunc blast a clearance off of Ralph's face after putting down a sweet tackle to get the ball in the first place. Right on Duncan!
So with 8 minutes to go, I wonder why the Crew haven't used any of their subs yet. Cunny seems tired, so why not put Scott in for a good 10 minutes, rather than risking Cunny to some pulled muscle?
I'm feeling good. The just posted the stat that the Fire have never lost twice to the Crew in one season. Now Whitfield gets tossed on a immediate red card. Glory Glory To Columbus!
So these guys from Einhoven blow into town with bags of money they just can't wait to hand over to Don Garber in return for Beasley's contract. Wouldn't you love to know what they're saying to each other in the car right now? The kid did nothing and got absolutely OWNED by a rookie making his first start ever. Hell, if I were them I'd be getting Garber on the phone and seeing what he's asking for Cunningham or Buddle. If they were counting on tonight's performance to get PSV to raise the ante, they may be disappointed. Really enjoyed watching the F*re get sh!t kicked out of them tonight. They were outplayed, outhustled and out muscled all over the field until finally little Ante just had to go get a broken nail fixed. Next time somebody wants to know why McBride plays for the Nats and Arena isn't interested in Razov, show them a tape of this game. Razov is a gutless, worthless wanker who contributes nothing when he can't get service, and then pouts, whines, quits and finally begs off hurt. Is it me, or does Jim Curtin look just like Lurch? Has it ever occurred to Evan Whitfield that he should just shut his fat stupid mouth once in a while and play the damned game? What a pathetic bunch of losers. Have a nice ride back to scumville, boys. Enjoyed having you.
That was good, a little slow, but good. I like how they got physical with Chicago, bullies don't like to be bullied I guess. Also I have to think Chicago wanted a three day weekend too. They were lifeless out there, excatly the kind of performance their fans deserve. I'm never good with rules and things, but I thought Edson was off on the first goal, but I'll take it. Good work from the Three Amigos. I really do think Edson, when healthy, and Cunningham are one of the best duos in MLS. They seem to have a very good understanding and find each other. Then when you throw Martino in there in form and going at the defense it makes Buddle and Cunningham that much more dangerous. Edson and Jeff both need to work on that finishing though and Martino needs to let rip once in a while. Why is it they make the hard shots, but the easy ones they miss? So you can go two ways with Wingert. You can say wow he had an amazing game where he took the "star" of the match with Europe looking at him and made him his bitch. Or you can say, I had to watch Denton that long WHY????? Good to see Akwari get in there and get a good game in as well after two bad perfromances. I was really afraid Andrulis was going to back bench him and an excellent player and leader would lose confidence in himself. Denton still the weak link, why no Lagos??? So that's why Oughton is on the team. Now I get it. He's a damn good defender isn't he? Now if we can only convince Greg that he's not a central mid or RWM he'd be ok. Edson needs a nickname, I say Tank Buddle. He just made the F*re players look like little girls out there the way he was running over, through and around them. He's an M-1A Tank. So since the second half of the last game last year it's the Crew 11 Fire 1. HA HA. In Games where Cunningham has scored this year: 4-0-1 In Games where Cunningham hasn't scored: 1-5-2
You know what? This is total ****************. Denton was ********ing awesome tonight, as was Wingert. Denton shut down Mapp, and Wingert shut down Beasley. And when the Fire had those two flip sides to try to get different matchups, the ownage continued. If I was in charge of this team, I'd be delighted with the wing midfield play tonight. I don't think the coaches could have dreamed of owning the wide play as much as the Crew actually did. Denton had the kind of performance tonight he did at home against SJ when he completely owned Mullan, who is one of the very best right midfielders in MLS right now.
I didn't say he was crap tonight. I said he was the weak link. He was Ok defensively, but Akwari did most of the work for him over there as a LB should. However, he was as impotent on offense as a 90 year old man off Viagra. I expect more from a Wing Mid. I expect what Wingert did on the right; get back defensively and then get the ball in the offense and DO something with it. Denton had the ball one time he held it for like 4 minutes and then just kicked it to a F*re player. None of his crosses were even close to being dangerous. The best thing he did was that nice heel pass to Cunningham. It didn't have enough on it, but it was a great idea. He's a weak player and it showed even more as the rest of the team played well tonight. However, Foos you need to watch out, this is how I became a Cunningham fan. I felt people were saying stupid things about him and it just evolved because he was the player I watched the most to see what those idiots were talking about(by the way it just turned out that those idiots, where in fact idiots when it came to Cunningham). Your going to be a Denton fan soon Foos, yucky.
Frodo and Samwise threw the Ring into the Fire tonight. [Couldn't resist that one] How could that possibly have been the same woodenlegged doofuses we saw struggle against Syracuse and lose to a depleted Colorado team that also couldn't do anything right? The Crew actually looked like a first-division professional soccer team all night. They could pass. They could attack. They had breakaways. It was the other team that was offsides all night. They still can't restart, though. How was Andrulis thinking at the end? Both Cunningham and Buddle were visibly done with fifteen minutes left. Cunningham just stood by or ambled most of the last fifteen minutes, and Buddle really looked sore at the end when he came off. The last ten minutes he was in Cunningham was shouting at the bench, and I don't think it was about his after-game plans. I'm afraid they both hurt themselves in this humid heat, and we'll pay for simple inattention next Saturday. The Crew has climbed up to third place. We might actually make the playoffs this year after all!
MOTM - Martino. Made Buddle and JC dangerous up front. Even made Paule and Elliott better. Even Denton wasn't horrific. Well horrific on offense and superb on defense averages out which is an improvement for him. A cross is dangerous if it doesn't go straight to a defender or the opposing GK. (See tape of DC - MetroStars massacre from today). Clueless: Why didn't he sub for JC earlier? How come it took him so long to start Wingert? Why hasn't he played Oughton at right back since 2002? Why is he still in charge? We haven't had so many good chances in a long time that Buddle and JC have forgotten how to finish. Buddle 1 for 3; JC 1 for 2 ( after a helpful deflection). Good to see Wingert pull the trigger with a solid shot from outside the box.
