Literally just got home. Sobbed half the drive. I'm going to sleep for a week. But it was so worth it.
WOW!!! JUST WOW!!! Couldn’t find a place to cram into Nordecke, but (after delivering a brew up to @DrunkandDisorderly) The Girl, The Boy, and I were kindly allowed by the experience team to watch from the terraces! The big Ukrainian flag blew up right in front of us a few times from the gusts, but that fantastic, loud, and now leak-free roof kept us dry. Nordecke was LOUD—louder than I’ve ever heard it, considering I’ve sat in it many times and was sitting above and behind it. The whole East Side was very loud also—like a second Nordecke. We dominated the first half. LA had some scary chances in the second half, but they seemed worn down and frustrated, and thus got chippy and fouled us a lot. Those seven minutes of stoppage time seemed like an eternity. But what an amazing explosion of energy and sheer joy when the final whistle blew. Donnie G got the reception he deserved. Would really loved to hear a BUSINESS METRICS! chant instead of or after the boo’s. A truly outstanding experience always to be remembered. Us from our elevated perch: What a year! What a team! What a club! What fans!! Columbus Crew—Charter Member 01–Saved from relocation, alone in 3rd place with 3 stars, one behind the Scum and two behind the Galaxatives. WE’RE NOT DONE YET! GOLRY TO COLUMBUS !!!
As a father of young children (too young to attend and enjoy a sporting event) I hope to one day have the opportunity to enjoy a night like tonight with my children like so many of you were able to do. Count yourselves lucky. Not many parents get to enjoy this type of experience.
Amazing night. It was great to see @Ch(Elsey) and @DrunkandDisorderly. Love to see your cute families cheering on the yellow soccer team. Bummed that I missed @DAFCrew and free beer from @TKyle a stupidface. Guess we'll just have to host it again next year.
One final note before I pass out: LAFC stands for Long Ass Flight to California folks get them outta here— Hanif Abdurraqib (@NifMuhammad) December 9, 2023 I love all you dweebs! And Columbus is the greatest team the world has ever seen!
Oh, I almost forgot. GROUCHY!! (Alas, a late surge of two points in two matches isn’t enough to storm up the table.)
What a night. What a season. I am home, happy, & buzzed. 2008 was in Carson. 2015 we lost (but maybe not with VAR). 2020 had only 1,500 there. This was packed, raucous, and ratification of concept. This. Is. The. Way.
I’m a little drunk. It’s a little late. But that was so much fun. Did I maybe spend too much on tickets? Yes. Was it worth it? 100% yes. Did I watch the game with all 3 of my kids and have a great time? Yes. Did I also win over $1k in sports betting tonight? Yes. Did I round out my night with a $500 pull tab at a bar for some weird ass midwestern hat trick? ********. And. Yes. We are massive.
And then... someone took a photo of the north lot. It was vacant. (I'm not saying plans changed or someone screwed someone else out of a tailgate. I'm just saying that "someone snapped a photo of a vacant lot." I suppose "reasons are reasons" as to why the lot was empty.)
I was completely toast by the end of the game. At one point I had at least 4 beers in my possession. Thank you all! Golry to Columbus!
Good morning Crew fans! Ready to board my flight back home in my Crew gear. Watched the whole game from my seats at Army/Navy. Love seeing all the posts and family pix. This is what it’s all about!
P.s. Everything still hurts. Helllo being closer to 40 than 30. Merry Cupmas to all and to all.. a very early, good morning.
yeah exactly. Have a niece at Naval Academy and a nephew at West Point and that game has always been a bucket list for me. Just incredible to watch that game while also keeping my eyes on my phone.
Back in 2008 my daughter, who was 9, begged me to go to the airport to welcome the team home from winning the Cup in California. She was with me for the devastating loss in 2015, we couldn’t go to the 2020 final. Last night was absolute magic. When we were just looking out over the field, she thanked me for bringing her all these years, for showing her how to enjoy it. I love all of you people!
