Should be a good game for our reserves. Hopefully we get some butts in the seat, but I'm not holding my breath.
Consider me underwhelmed. That said, it looks like they won't jack up the prices too much (if they start at $22), so that's cool.
Yawn, pretty sad that this is the best they can do. Look at over teams around the league, they are at least playing top European clubs.
This will be a waste of our time, aside from some reserves getting a run out. Seriously, frickin' Stoke?
Come on. Newcastle was 12th last year and we were happy to have them. 14th Stoke seems like a good fit for us.
Only an idiot would compare Newcastle to Stoke. Newcastle is about a trillion times more popular. (No offense intended to any Stoke fans.)
I think some of you would complain if Chelsea played here because they aren't top 4 this year. Seriously, Stoke is EPL. In our house. Be happy.
At least Newcastle has some cachet, Stoke is a non-entity. How is the Crew gonna market this one? "Come see the ugliest collection of knuckle-draggers the EPL has to offer against the Crew subs/reserves"?
I'm assuming you're merely basing an English side's "fit" for us based on their standing in the EPL table and that you're NOT equating NUFC with Stoke. Not to mention Newcastle has a relatively big fanbase, not only in Ohio, but in the US overall. ToonArmyNYC, ToonArmyAmerica, and other US-based fan groups made a big showing last July and brought a hell of a lot more fans than most MLS clubs bring to Crew Stadium. I don't anticipate Stoke to bring nearly as many fans as Newcastle. That said, I'm still excited. Can't wait for those Rory Delap throw-ins.
Honestly, I'd take any Premier League club. It's the single most popular league in the world. We'd be silly to complain.
You guys are disappointed with Stoke? How do you think they feel about playing the 18th place team, in an altogether less fashionable part of the US?
