Scott’s field? With this schedule change, it may be a challenge for some of the playing surfaces if we hit games in February. Good opportunity for Scott’s to showcase their products on typically-immaculate field here in Columbus.
Scotts makes a ton of sense. They've hired a bunch of our students and even more from OSU. We've always had one of the best pitches in MLS (especially at Historic Crew Stadium).
Scott’s has only recently returned to profitability after three years of annual losses. Seems they’ve trimmed down (or are continuing to do so) by divesting of some unprofitable spin-offs. They’d be a logical naming rights partner.
This unfortunately was my thought. Our field has not been nearly as immaculate in the new stadium as it was at HCS—grow lights or not. Seems risky to put their name on the stadium if the field looks crappy, especially from late October on when grass isn’t growing.
Does Andruil have a civilian line for corporations or wealthy individuals looking for security drones?
We had two historically bad droughts in a row the past two summers. Obviously the stadium has an extensive irrigation system, but I'm sure it was still difficult to replace the severe lack of rain.
It's not the rain, but the heat.. and the wear and tear. Northern grass varieties pretty much stop growing in temps that are consistently above 80 degrees. It's why you have to mow a lot more in spring than you do in summer. Add onto that the grass being cut extremely short and having 22 athletes running on it every 7 days or so, and it leads to the need to patch areas that are particularly badly worn (like in front of the goals). Southern grass varieties stay green in the heat; they thrive in it. Trouble is, they go dormant and turn brown when it gets cold. Every now and then you'll someone in the Midwest who decided to seed their lawn with zoysia grass. It'll be the lawn that goes dormant and turns brown from late autumn to early spring.
Last year was especially bad due to the heat, drought, and all the leagues cup, MLS regular season games, and ASG events during the summer. It took a beating. This year we also played 5 games in like a 19 day period there in July-August.
My sons house has zoysia. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. You cant kill it, it just comes back stronger, and its expanding to take over both his neighbors yards. Its like a slow motion horror movie. It looks like hell for most of the year and its like walking on a wire brush. Hed happily kill it all off and re seed the place, but the shit just laughs at Roundup.
Have a friend who had to tear that sh!t out by hand; ugly, brown, and Roundup didn’t work. Would not recommend.
DnD’s drone pics during the construction of The Stadium Formerly Known as Pince, er, um, LDC, were well appreciated.
I didn't want this thread to degenerate into politics, but the Second Amendment definitely says that I have the right to a murder drone.
In all seriousness, I was asking to see if they had a need for consumer (or at least B2B) brand awareness.
Well, I'm sure the grass will be much better now that players will have to be running on it during the time of the year when nothing grows.
Unless you're a Bond villian version of a wealthy individual, their product line doesn't seem to be geared toward the civilian market: https://www.anduril.com/
An Anduril or Palantir - or even Erebor Bank - stadium sponsorship wouldn't be about brand awareness to potential buyer, but rather about humanizing the company as community-driven and local and, frankly, friendly rather than a big, evil weapons maker or AI software company or bank for billionaires and AI companies. It's good PR to park your big drone and in front of the stadium so people can see it and say "oh wow that's cool" instead of "Jesus that's terrifying."
I could have sworn you were talking about World Cups and other things in the Middle East in that post. Purchasing of massive sports and entertainment franchises like EA, Newcastle, etc. Must be my reading comprehension.
Why do we think they're giving millions to the OSU Athletic Department? It's certainly not so people can buy their stuff a la Nike, Chick-fil-A and Coca-Cola.
