2-1 Crew. Wow, what a great match. Garcia, Buddle and Cunningham were very good all match long. Busch made the tough saves when needed. Lets close them out on Saturday.
no doubt. we dont need to be going back to san jose for a game 3...lets just finish this thing in columbus... garcia played one hell of a match and was the man of the match in my mind, he tormented the left side from beginning to end. mcbride had that great header that donovan cleared off the line, he played with much better pace and looked like he was *in* the match as opposed to the last few...plain and simple the forwards and midfield looked great, the back 4 still looked shakey but that is to be expected from this team...
I didn't expect this. You may have heard my goal call on the second goal. GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLL.
Agreed. McBride actually appeared to be more than a decoy at times, and generated a few dangerous threats. Other than the goal Donovan scored on, I thought we did a good job of keeping the ball away from him. BTW....Shouldnt we harass Donovan a little this Saturday? I'm thinking some sister chants might be needed. Wow...I still can't believe he said he can tell when his sister is on the rag.
And mom wonders why I don't get married. Good win, a little shaky, but the boys pulled it out. Good performances from Buddle, Cunningham, and Garcia. I thought Denton played good as well. Revenge is a gift best served cold and it should be a little chilly at CCS on Saturday. Go Crew, lets knock'em out in two.
Buddle is the real F-ing deal! I just wish Columbus didn't blow the home field advantage because winning the Cup is a real possibility.
On the Quakes site, they are claiming the refs cost them the game and that the refs had to have heavy security lead them out. Did I miss something? The Crew could have picked up an extra yellow or two but nothing really major effected them. I don't want to hear about the Lagos play, the ref was right with the call by not awarding the PK, the yellow then to Agoos was correct because he got in his face and actually bumped him. They shouldn't be crying because the biggest mistake by the ref was not giving the Crew a PK when Martino was held and completely stopped when going in 1 v 1 with Cannon because the Quake defender just reached out and grabbed his jersey.
Congratulations on the 2-1 playoff quarterfinal game 1 win.       Onward to Saturday. -G
gayle, you need to stay away from these Con Losers. Jeans shorts aren't quite as cool as they were back in '92!
Yes you did, as a matter of fact. You're right -- the hold on Martino probably should have been a red, and the call for the foul on Lagos was correct (no PK), but maybe you didn't see Graziani get clocked in the box (deserved PK), or the buttload of other missed calls that should have been made (and those that shouldn't have). If you didn't see these, maybe you should apply to be a MLS ref, you're just what they're looking for. You guys deserved the win -- awesome second goal -- but you should be as ************ing annoyed by these shithead refs as we are -- because eventually you will be on the receiving end of their ineptness and it will cost you games. DOUG <--- does not wear jean shorts
Sportscenter this morning has a brief slice of the match in "Top Ten Plays". The play? Landon Donovan yanking his shirt off. Linda Cohn says "Landon Donovan....stylin', as always" Like it or not, the rubes know who he is. And Doug: There's no reason for us to "wait" for the refs to cost us games. The Fire would have been down to about 7 players last week with a decent ref and we would not have been playing you last night. As for the match, the calls went both ways. There were at least two obvious PK's we didn't get, including the one early when Dunseth got leg whipped and the one at the end when Martion was obviously held. The crowd got all excited when Agoos went ballistic, figuring he knew what he was talking about. As the replay clearly showed,he was simply wrong. The ref stunk up the place, but it most definitely went both ways.
Life as a San Jose fan must be difficult. I mean, they won MLS Cup 2001, they have the new poster boy of US soccer and they're an unbeatable team...unless the officials cost them the match. Seriously, has San Jose lost a match in the last two seasons in which the referees didn't cost them the match? Maybe they should start another letter-writing campaign...
Oh, and one more thing: the more I watch Donovan play for his club the more I dislike him as a club player. The kid never shuts his trap. At least he didn't dive as much last night as he has in the past, but his antics - getting in the referee's face, staring the AR down after getting called for offside, constantly looking for calls - is getting pretty annoying.
Man, I hate to agree with you folks, but Landon sucks on so many levels--the whining, the diving, all of it--after the last game he said he's gonna go back to Germany so he can get a call (OK I'm paraphrasing)...what a moron....but being the "Golden Boy" all he has to do is score one lousy goal and all of the little girls and in-the-closet men will forgive his every mistake---it's disturbing how bad some of my fellow Quake fans are on L-Do's jock all the time....he hasn't done crap for us this year, he's not gonna do crap for us in the playoffs either--except maybe alienate any new fans that haven't seen his childish behavior...could you send a note to your defenders to take this kid out of commision for good? I'm secretly rooting for the Crew on Saturday, maybe this will finally get the little diver out and all of the little groupies can move on to something else...
Great game by the boys last night. Good to see Garcia have a breakout game. Buddle played well, but he did have a few too many easy giveaways for my tastes. He shouldn't be playing wide right, not that West is any better. I would have liked to have seen Martino or Perez in there instead of Mais, we really had nothing in the middle of the park last night. That's really my only complaint. Other than the calls already mentioned my favorite ref call last night was in the second half, I think it was Ibsen (not entirely sure) has a hold of Garcia's shorts, whacks him in the head with an elbow and throws him to the ground and then gets a whistly on Garcia. What the heck was that? Well it's back to CCS for the all important game 2. I like our chances. Z
I can't believe the Quakes fans think Ariel Louganis deserved a penalty for that dive with Mike Clark last night. C'mon folks, nobody believed Chicken Little either. His falling-motion after the "contact" defied the laws of physics. Still... gotsta throw some props the way of Edson "Kind" Buddle.
First of all, its already been said, but someone has gotta tell Landon that he's not Jesus Christ. Is their anyone outside of his sister and the preteen fans out there who like him as a club player? Great ************in match though. In the first 15 minutes of the second half I wanted to kill Andrulis for packing it in though. Perhaps they were just trying to weather a storm, but they had 9 guys behind the ball for a good portion of that second half. Somehow it all turned out for the good though. I'm officially on board with Garcia now. The kid has a great work ethic, and though I'd like to see him take on players more 1 on 1 I'm sure that will come soon enough. He's the closest we have come to having a solid left side player, hopefully he stays their for the rest of the playoffs. The second goal was great work all around, Cunningham, McBride with a great near post run, Martino's dummy, and then Garcia. McBride had a solid game, and I expect that to definately continue throughout the playoffs. Good to see the toughness of Dunseth outh there too, I didn't expect him to come back in after that fall. I been on board with that kid all season, and mark my words, he will score a goal on a header of a set piece before these playoffs are over. Did anyone notice how upset Cunny was at being subbed? He wants the full 90 every game. Solid game by Busch. Did anyone else groan when they saw McCarty startin at right back, I thought if he started he'd be central defense, but he played well. I'm stoked, yo, can't wait for saturday.
if you can't yell and wake her up after such a great victory.....you married the wrong girl. or, yell and blame it on the pink walls
That's how Dwight explained it. Foul committed outside the box, ref waited to see if there was advantage... there wasn't, so the ref then called the foul where it happened. The refs were horrible, but consistent. That is the best a team can ask for in a lot of situations. Obviously I was only paying attention to the calls that hurt us, but there were plenty that hurt the other team as well. My three favorite boo-boos by the refs were: 1. Dunseth geeting raped in the box early in the game -- just to have a foul called against him. 2. Freddy getting SLUGGED in the face. Only to have the fould called against him! 3. Martino getting tripped up in the box in a clear professional foul with no call given. Also, Freddy exemplifies what the Crew work ethic should be. Whatever happened to the motto -- "America's Hardest Working Team"?? He was definitely MOM, but Cunny did have two sweet runs up the side with some decent crosses.
Since we don't get Sport TV here in Dayton, and I don't have the shootout package, I didn't see the game, but the radio guys called that play the same way -- that's what the ref is s'posed to do in that situation. Sounded like everybody worked hard last night. I'm pumped to end this Saturday, hope there's a HUGE turnout.
