Hello all. This is my first time to grace an MLS forum. I'm an Englishman (and Everton supporter)living in Indianapolis. I have been thoroughly impressed by McBride in the recent weeks and would love to see him play. Also, this is my second year in the USA and while there was the World Cup to see me through those long summer months without EPL games last year I think I'll have to start seriously supporting an MLS team to console me this year. And what better team to support than the Crew. Your stadium looks great and the fans sound passionate and friendly and of course the players are some of the best in the league. It's only a 2 hour drive but even so I'm not quite sure I can commit myself to a season ticket. So I'll probably start off by buying tickets on a game to game basis. A couple of questions though. Where is the best (most lively) area of the stadium to sit in. Should I buy them from the official site or can I buy them on the day. Will the first game against the Galaxy be a sellout? What time do you all get to the game? Drink much, grill out - Tailgaiting is a completely alien concept to me Without trying to sound a little desparate I'd like to get to know a few people and meet up at a game as it's not so much fun going to a game on your own. In the mean time, keep up the great support for the Blues and hope Brian fires us to a Champions league place.
Welcome to the boards. As far as the most lively place to go, please refer to the "stickyed" thread re: Section 137. If you want more info on that area of CCS, I would either post something in THAT thread, or PM Zak. The view is bad in 137 (I just don't care for the end zone view), but you'll have a lot of fun. There are not really any bad places to sit in the stadium to be honest, and I have been everywhere in the stadium. As far as tickets go, (and I'm going to catch crap for saying this) but you can usually show up without a ticket, and get one from a scalper for a good price. I have always been able to pull that off, except for one game last year. Tailgating definitely happens. You also have some Crew fans that post here, who are in your area (hangthadj, 3stripe) ... and I would hook up with them if you like.

ha, man i love that kroger. what a waste of space. I use to live on 931 woodruff east. i know that area well. now i am at 36th and washington boulevard just a few minutes north of ya. i miss woodruff though, i really dug that place, though my new place is a bit bigger and nicer. i'll be getting the shootout package via satelite this year andough i fear 3stripe and i make it out to alot of games (th i won't make it to all with new job responsibilities and all)...hit me up with a pm if ya wanna get together to watch some games down the line. i don't make it to rock bottom much, when i am at the bars its usually chatterbox or old point.
sAndy, the view isn't bad... its the perspective that one has that is bad. Remember, that a lot of stadiums in the world have an upper deck -- which often times leads to columns that obscure the view of people in lower decks. Crew stadium has excellent views; I don't think there is a bad seat in the house in which to see the action. You cannot claim that a stadium has bad views when looking long-wise at the field... Also, first game is on March 23 at 4:00 p.m. This game will NOT be a sellout. I would be happy to get out the 4k that were in attendance for the Open Cup victory. The LA game should be close to a sell-out. However, if you do not want to buy season tickets, there are ALWAYS cheap tickets available!
I just don't like being that FAR down to the field, watching the game, from the end zone. I prefer watching it from the side, preferrably in the upper sections of the lower deck. To each their own.
last year, tickets for section 137 were available on game day for $10 at the v-army tailgate. Most of the time they were $10, but a few other games had other prices. In case of a price change, someone will give sufficient notice. regarding tailgates, bring some beer and a ball and you'll be fine.
Just a quick thought If you can make it from Indianapolis to Columbus in 2 hours you must be driving awfully fast. I am not trying to discourage you, and I'm sure others know better than me, but I'm guessing it is a 3 hour plus drive.
Lol. I was just guessing. Though I do have trouble acclimatizing to the 55mph speed limit. Will def. get in touch nearer the time and drop a PM. Do pre-season games get shown on the major networks. As for getting in the MLS I can understand some people's apathy towards it. For those Europeans who have moved to the USA there is an abundance of football on FSW. Practically every major league is covered in some shape or form. I suppose it depends how much you enjoy going to a live game. Some people are happy to sit in on their sofa every week. For me, I find it difficult to watch a game at home that I, a) don't care which team wins or b) know nothing about. If you go to see a live game that instantly changes your perspective and you become a fan. The McBride situation certainly helps though. For a player from a team near to me now to play (and make a big impact)for the team I've supported all my life is a dream come true.
FSW BAD FOR SOCCER! SOMEONE START A THREAD in B&M. seriously though, welcome aboard. 137 has the best atmosphere but I'll side with andy that if you want a better view, you can find one. its not bad though. Depth perception just gets a little wacky when the ball is on the far side, but its great when the ball is at your end. Its a tradeoff I guess.
Hey, I've got an interesting question. What is the Fire/Crew split in Indiana. Even? Or alot more support for the Crew?

I'd say pretty even. I can understand people from Indiana wanting to attach themselves to a city bigger than any in their own state (Chicago) over a smaller city like Columbus. You should ask the Crew/F*re fans from each forum why they chose that team...
Sorry for swearing. I trust you'll do me the similar courtesy of never mentioning the name of a team that plays in red from the city the Beatles hail from.
Welcome to Columbus....something you might want to look at is that they do offer a reduced game season ticket plan....like a 6 game package and a nine game package....just a thought... -PB20
You might check into partial season packs, kerpow. I believe some season packs give you the right to 1st choice on extra games (US Nats) and you can get down to the North End anytime. I believe you'll find most Crew fans open and friendly. Your greatest risk may be being pesterd to death by the EPL vs. MLS curious. Consensus, BTW, is that MLS is middle 1st division to bottom 3rd EPL; however, MLS has been improving each year and the speed and average skill is improving. Welcome aboard.
I'm sure I'll get alot of that. I was planning to go to my first game wearing an Everton shirt, maybe even a banner thanking Brian for his goals. Would that be too wierd? Just reading on TheCrew.com about the tour of Portugal. 2-1 against Sporting sounds quite reasonable considering they are half way through their season. Do they often tour Europe?
hello kerpow...welcome to indpls (although a year late) and to the crew boards... you live just around the corner from me..im at 11th/alabama as for the crew/f*re choice...it's a bit problematic for my family...my parents are huge f*ire fans and don't much appreciate my fondness for the crew. they blame hangthadj for what they consider my poor allegiance. what brought you overseas to indy?
Bastards never grit the roads around there do they. A kind of long story. My wife is from Indiana (a small hick town near the Kentucky border)who I met at a beer festival in Germany. She was at IU and was doing too little studying and too much partying so she quit school to move to London with me. She came on a 1 year student visa and got a really good job. Her employer promised to sponsor her for permanent residency only to be told a week b4 her visa ran out that they couldn't. So we got hitched that weekend kind of Vegas style. She then decided she wanted to go back to school while she was still young and finish her degree. So we moved to Indy so she could go to IUPUI and I could get a job in a reasonable size city. So here I am.
