Columbus Dispatch main writer is Craig Merz covers US and Crew soccer 3-4 articles a week in the offseason, more during MLS season Dispatch is a pay site, so this link is to a local radio station's site that can post one Crew story a day Soccer Saturday, Live from Columbus Saturday 11-noon on 1230AM the Zone in Columbus Dwight Burgess is the show's host Covers the Crew, MLS, and US soccer
this is what i presently have for the crew... it's part of a directory i've created to help myself and gpk with the morning news, that simply blew up... if anyone has anything else (corrections or new source) to add, i'd love to get it the directory contains over 50 papers that cover mls, close to 20 for the a-league, a few tv shows, and several radio shows any and all help would be appreciated -jim
You can add this.. The Lantern (www.thelantern.com) - Main writer is Aaron Stollar (aaronstol@yahoo.com) - We cover all home games, plus the occasional trip east... - We do cover US matches in Columbus, and generally ones that are in the DC area Note to readers - I know that in the past the Lantern hasn't exactly been known as a friend of the sport, but I have a good feeling that this will change in the next few seasons with me being around the newsroom lobbying in its defense. So be sure to check out the game stories after every Crew home game and after certain US matches. Thanks
awesome... will you be covering them this summer as well, or only during the fall and spring semesters?
Our coverage will continue all summer including the US-Paraguay game... We were one of only two student newspapers (the other being B.U.) to cover any US WCQ's or tuneups and the only one to travel for any of them
This is terrific Aaron. I always got so frustrated with the lack of Crew coverage back when I was a student.
web sites as well? Cyber Soccer News http://www.cybersoccernews.com/mls/crew/index.shtml Reporters: Walt Wheeler, Scott Tann
jmeisen: Your link to the Columbus Dispatch is incorrect, it actually takes you to some radio station website, 1460thefan.com. The correct link is http://www.dispatch.com, but they charge $4.95 per month for online access. I tried using bigsoccer/bigsoccer as you suggested on the Revs boards, and it doesn't work. Also, I believe you are doing a disservice to BS readers when you consciously exclude websites such as cybersoccernews.com. Not to toot my own horn, but the truth is many of these websites, such as the 3rdDegree.net in Dallas and RevsNet in NE, frequently have more detailed and better information about the teams than the "more mainstream" media organizations.
1460 The Fan's web site allows you to read the Dispatch articles for free. I don't know why it works, it just does.
Thanks for the explanation Flyer Fan. I just tried that, and after locating the link on the left sidebar of the 1460 The Fan's website, I still get the same sign in screen at the Dispatch website and I still can't get in. Am I missing something??
Tony, The cheap-ass Dispatch makes all viewers of its site pay to use it. (Who do they think they are, the WSJ?) The only chance you have to use it for free is if you have a subscription to the print edition. In other words, even if you use the link, you have to pay.
I think it works for specific articles, Tony, not the paper in general. For example, if there is a Crew article on the Dispatch web site you can get it through that site or, if you replace the Dispatch part of the URL with some 1460 The Fan mumbo-jumbo you get the same article but with 1460's background. For example, this link is the Dispatch May 19 article. this link is 1460's posting.
Yes you are. Don't click on The Dispatch link. All it will give you is their home page, just as if you tried to log in at Thedispatch.com. The 1460 site is not a secret backdoor gateway to The Dispatch. 1460 posts the same article on THIER SITE - they're owned by the same comnpany so it saves having to hire two sportwriters. Just go to 1460thefan.com and scroll down to the list of current articles. Usually it will list the Indians, Bluejackets, etc. along with a couple words on the article. The last one (always, I think) is CREW. Click there and you'll get the article.
